We'll be there in full force!

Its unfortunate I am not skiing this year, but I'm happy to be watching from the beach enjoying a cocktail with friends and family. If you see me stop for a beer or drink!!!

If it's anything like years past the battle between the Warpath's team and skier Wayne Mawer (sp) and the Nordic team and skier Todd Haig should be epic.

Thinking about going out in a buddy cruiser, is it best to stay inside of harbor or venture out a few miles to watch race?

Pretty sure we will be there - I have a friend that is crewing and I'm sure he will need someone to help with beer when he finishes ;-)

Most people on the water will go out just past the break wall "Queens Gate" for the start of the race then putt into the harbor to watch the boats finish. The start is definitely worth watching at the break wall if you can be on the water

I've got zero plans for this weekend. Unless something magically comes up maybe I'll cruise over for it.

Looks like you got the best advice,, just make sure your captain pays attention and stays clear. The racers have enough to contend with without worrying about spectator boats. The start is kind of hairball!

Yes, that is a must! You got roughly 50-60 boats and skiers all wanting to make it out of the harbor at the same time [emoji15] once they make it to the break water they start spreading out to the left and right, so definitely be conscious of that. Great advice Barry!

Thanks for the tip.

At this point I'm not sure of we will be on the water or the back of the QM for the start - Im pretty sure we will be on the QM for the finish though.

At the Queen Mary, and walk up to the rear deck, the set up an outside bar :drink. We'll watch the start and finish there, then head to the parking lot for :drink

Been in all positions of the boat over the years, driver and observer, even back when almost twice as many boats made the mass start. Tough enough watching for the other racers on either side, and making sure a skier does not fall in front of you! Hard to explain to those who watch from a distance and have not been in it!

Yes, the magic was found in simi valley or symar? I don't remember which he said. Another member from RDP was rolling through the area and saw it. It had the numbers and graphics covered up. Everything was gone, just a bare hull and it was a mess. [emoji107] [emoji107]

Just looked it up. 8:53 sharp. They have some parade thing that starts at 7am.
Yes, 0853 start for the race. The parade of boats starts at 0700-0830. Basically every team goes by victory dock to drop off a license and receive their official entry list. After that, usually a prayer, national anthem and then start your engines!!!

More details can be found at Catalinaskirace.net

If you get there at 10 you'll miss the first 10-15 finish the race lol

I'll most likely be there and have a cooler loaded down in my truck! Probably be wearing the white RDP/skater shirt and either a black or red rdp hat

Are you pulling a skier? The old owner of your boat usually goes down to watch, I will let him know the boat will be there.

Yes, very much so. Especially since he had a skier coming over from Australia to ski behind the warlock and had a local skier going behind the magic.

Got to stay hydrated... Need to drink a lot of lemon water. This will dissolve stones in some people. She needs to suck it up.

Ya she does... I told her the bouncing around in the ocean would break that sucker loose. Not buying it. But your the expert! So what's the deal? We still gonna try this rodeo?

Yes, you get on the Queen, and go to the stern on the top deck. It's like $10

More of a social drinking event with some skiing tossed in for good measure.

Queen Mary charges a entry fee... I think $10-15. Most people hang out at the stern where they have a bar, food (more$)and good viewing for the start and finish. After the finish... We normally go to the parking lot and hang with CampbellCarl (RIP) and a few RDP people. After that we walk over to the Hotel and hear the results.

It looks like that's our plan - QM start and finish then the hotel after...

You sure that's not the one I posted? I haven't seen a "new" one, can't find one by searching Avila Motorsports?

Just a thought, but it would sure be nice if the race would post an entry list of teams (boat numbers, driver, skier, observer, class, and boat make/length) pre-race (here on RDP or on the ski race site). Not everybody who comes down to spectate at the race is a ski race insider. A little more info would greatly enhance the event for attending spectators -- and buying a race program that morning of the race just doesn't cut it. And yes, I know there are lots of last minute entries (another really bad habit that needs to be dealt with -- a very unfair situation for the Long Beach Club and the volunteers running the race). I hope Catalina is safe and successful again this year -- at least there doesn't appear to be any rain forecast like last year. I've been to 50 out of the last 53 , but just not sure if I'm motivated enough to make it down on Saturday -- I'll set my alarm clock just in case.
