So, I’ve got someone bringing me a cashiers check for my skid steer. Is there any concerns when accepting a cashiers check?

So my credit union told me they can still cancel the cashiers check similar to a normal check. I was told it’s best to deposit immediately at their bank.
Its been a while, but when you request a cashiers check, you get a receipt with it and with that receipt you can cancel the check, so i was told to always take the Cashiers Check plus the receipt because without it you can't cancel. Correct me if i am wrong.... Good info to have

The check is from Wells Fargo. I bank at chase. I’m guessing when I roll into wells they tell me we don’t have that much cash on hand

Also, do they need your address? Not really a fan of giving out my home address.

Last time I took a CC when selling an RV I walked Into my bank with the buyer and did not sign the title until my bank ( chase ) verified that it had been " cashed " and funds were in my account.

If you deposit it in your account, be ready for a 9 day hold.

If wells Fargo doesn't have the cash on hand, it's their fault, and not your problem.

Cash is King.

I like when they give you grief for cash withdrawals less than $10K. Like the banking institutions don't reverse repo with the fed trillions of dollars a day. Most of us peons have such tiny transactions in the grand scheme of things.

take it to Wells Fargo and have them cash and reissue a check in front of you. If they won’t take the check than you shouldn’t either.
Interesting approach, I like it!

When I get a CC I always like to be present at their bank as they make it out. That's the way. As far as cancelling it once it's been made out, I think the credit union employee gave you false info--it can only be cancelled if you still have the CC in hand and didn't pay someone with it. Or, if there's a court order, or at least a police report of something but that's a 90 day process. Otherwise what would be the point of a CC? At least in my understanding that's the way it works.

When I purchased my last truck, I had the seller meet me at my bank and had the teller issue him the check as he was standing next to me. I handed it straight to him after verifying the amount was correct, couldn't have been in my hand more than 10 seconds.

This is the way to go with large private party transactions.

On private purchases I only take cash unless its under $100 then Pay-Pal/Venmo.

If the buyer doesn't have cash the next one will.. It is amazing how buyers that can't or won't get cash can suddenly appear with a handful of it...

I know right?! The last car I sold the guy was coming up with all kinds of excuses, but in the end it was legit (something about a trust and needing another signature) but I was like no rush, leave me $500 deposit and come back once you have the cash no rush, he did and all were happy.

Is there an upper limit ? In other words let's say you were selling a RV, you looking to get $ 150,000 in cash handed to you ?

I read somewhere that what used to be the best way to pay for something was a cashiers check but that that way of payment had become suspect as they were finding more and more cases of fraud concerning CC ???? I dont know for sure but in a dealing Im having very soon I requested cold hard cash, am I wrong??

Have him take a picture of check and send to you then forward to your bank to check funds. Or call his bank and ask.

I have posted it numerous times. Got screwed years ago for 18k. Cashiers check can be stopped for $25. Chase bank. Sold my last truck and reminded the manager at chase Bank. Before I handed it over I had them cash it. They cashed it and handed me $37,500. I wouldn't do it any other way.

When I sold my boat the guy paid in a us bank CC. No branch in Havasu. I also use a bank with no branch in Havasu. So I had no choice but to take the check, deposit it at an ATM and cross my fingers. In hindsight it was pretty dumb but glad it worked out.

Can’t believe how hard it is to move money in 2023. Next time I’ll insist on a wire transfer.

What boggles my mind is the fact that people are scared to carry cash. When did that become so terrifying?

I would cash that with the buyer in person at his bank. Only way to do it!

Exactly and they will charge a fee to give you said cash.

I cash checks for cash frequently. When I try to do it in "poorer" neighborhoods I get attitude or pushback.

In a "good neighborhood" (the kind of bank with no plexiglass shield) it's not a problem.

Cash may be king, but it is getting harder and harder to trade in it.

Tell the buyer to show up with his laptop…sign into your Wi-Fi and perform a wire transfer….

I don’t accept cashiers checks, to easy to fake and I hate standing in line at the bank. If they make me stand in line at the bank, I raise the price by $100

When I pulled $10k cash from the bank someone witnessed and about 10 minutes later I got bumped into on the freeway. We both pull over, get out of the vehicles and are on the passanger sides and guy pulls a gun on me and demands the cash. Everyone driving by doesn't realize I'm getting robbed. They just think two vehicles on the side of the road. Anyways guy gave me instructions and drove off. Made a police report but nothing came of it... I made that up, I never got robbed but it's what goes through my mind when getting large quantities of cash.

😂I know thats what everyone thinks, me as well

. But in my head, think of the coordination and planning it would take for that to work. You would need a rogue teller on the inside that alerts the robber at the exact time you pull cash. Then the heist would have to go off without a hiccup.

I like when they ask, do you want an envelope? Fuck that just give the cash. Those envelopes are the dead giveway!😂

Snap a pic of the guy and his DL and Lic plate. Just so you can identify the guy if the CC is fake / fraud. That becomes theft!

You can call WF to make sure CC is real.

They can only stop payment on CC if its lost or stolen otherwise its good!

Your bank wont put a hold on the check if you have a balance equivalent to the CC…

I always want Cash. Only way I vary it is they are financing from their bank or credit union and then I will be at the bank when the check is issued and either cash it or mobile deposit it seconds after issued.

I’ve been thinking of that very video since I read this thread this morning.
“Robbers” come dressed in many different ways.
You lose, ruin, or otherwise misplace your cash it’s gone, Period.
You lose, ruin, or otherwise misplace a cashiers check you have a receipt and your bank replaces it.
This isn’t “the invention of lying” movie.
NO ONE is going to replace your precious cash when it’s separated from you.

The fictional robber scenario a few posts ago happens all the time…but nothing so direct or drastic.
Me? If I was a dishonest person like over half the people on internet sale sites?
Id just set up a cash sale, never go near the location, and tell my boys the time and place for 20%.
Let them do the deed while I fish for the next one.
I’d do that all day long every single day.
Oh wait….that’s EXACTLY what they do.

It isn’t a matter of fear, it’s being aware of the world we live in today.

lol you sound like my wife, whenever we go to the bank to pull a large sum out...when we walk out, shes like looking in every direction and then driving off she is still looking around....she swears we are going to get robbed every time....

Up there among the worst laws ever written. Friend had about 10k seized, proved it was from his business and they offered him around 50% back. He fought it and got it all back, minus lawyer fees which was almost 50%. Coincidence? I'd rather pay the lawyer.

I have only taken cashiers checks right from the bank issuing it. Did it once with a bike. Met the buyer there and they gave me a few k in cash and a check. If it is mail order or otherwise I will take a postal money order. My shop is right next to a PO and I can just walk in and they tell me right there and then if it is good or not. Never had that not work, so why mess with it if it is not broken.

I deal with selling heavy equipment everyday and we only take bank checks from established clients. I make all new customers pay by wire transfer.

Had a case involving just this... The pic sent was a legit check.. seller had it checked out and came back legit ...

The seller gets the check in hand, however at this time he didn't know it was a very good counterfeit copy. The fraud was not discovered until the check went to the bank and the merch was already shipped...

The suspect sweet talked the teller into returning and cancelling the legit check. He'd been grooming her for months

300k out the window...
