Does anyone have someone that they recommend in the southern California area? Looking to have one of those metal building type carports installed for an RV. closed on 3 sides. Also... any tips on this project before I go for it? mine will be on gravel, and would need to be about 44' long.

Girlfriends dad and brother used Nti carports. Haven't heard any complaints from them.
They'll tell you what the requirements are for it. Just FYI, some cities allow it with a permit and some don't even allow them.

I'll give you a little advice on how best to approach this depending on whether you're located in county or city and then how nice of neighbors you think you have. This is for California ONLY.

Before you buy anything or decide how big you must have it and start planning where everything will go and get excited visit your county or city building and safety department. See if you can get an appointment with a building department inspector. You can also just go down there and wait to see someone but they can be like the DMV so the people watching and arguments can be really entertaining but
Long waits lol. Make sure you go online and try to find your plot plan so you can help him/her find it for the appropriate zoning.

Now, here's where it gets really important. YOU MUST DUMB DOWN YOUR APPROACH. I'm sure you've researched it all and you'll know exactly what you want by the time you go see these fuckers but it's extremely important you don't let them know that. They have this inner desire to figure out a way to say no to your carport/garage if you already have the answers.

Once you get in front of one of these jockies you're going to need to frame your questions to get the answers you want. Keep it simple applies here.

Opening question should be, "I'm looking to put some sort of shade over my RV but don't know where to begin. My neighbor/friend/relative says you guys are really knowledgable and will help me design something that is economical and functionable. What do I need to know?"

Let the conversation unfold and then drop hints on what type of building you're looking to put up. Ask open ended questions that drives the answers to you ultimately getting what you're looking for.

It sounds ridiculous but I've been there and done that. They have to feel like it was their idea and they may bend a rule or two or share how to get through the permitting faster. It's a total dog and pony show but it works.

Remember, you're only trying to find a solution to shading your RV. That shit is key when you first talk to them lol. Not you want some 44' building with three sides on gravel yada yada yada... dumb it down. You'll also find out what kind of neighbors you have if you don't go the permit route lol

Bumping this up, as I was out of town over the weekend.

it seems prices are coming it around 5500-6500 for what I'm looking for. I'd like to save some $ on this project, as I still need to budget for gravel, etc. Is it worth looking into doing the labor on my own, or are these a pain to install?

Is that for a 12x44?

I know some that have done it and some that have had it done. I think I would leave it to those that do it if it was me. They bring a small army and knock it out.

I had a 11' X 26' put along side my house, not 3 sided just the cover about a $1000 installed with tax.
I found it on carports.com. They had the thing up in less than an hour.

The cost is in the structure, there is little to no labor in that price. Most places will deliver and setup for a lot less than your time would be for you to do it. I don't know about you but my own time is about $1 million an hour lol. These guys will set it up in a 1/3 the time you will. This stuff is bundled so moving it around without a fork lift is a pain. Then if you go with a roll up door and getting that shit in the air is a pain.

There is only a couple places manufacturing the metal so everyone is getting equal pricing. The quality is in which gauge metal you go with. The cost differences are minimal between companies so they're getting their install money whether you use them or not.

Before you pull the trigger call Madera Carports in yes Madera. I did a 24 x 32 for under 5000.00. Great people, came out and installed in about 5 hrs. Look them up...

That's about the size I need. 24 x 35/36 is what I'm looking at. Did you have all the ground work done and they came in with it and set it up for that $$ ?

I'm thinking about getting on of these and putting it up in Havasu Landing, do you think I can get away w/o permits? The land is about 15min north of the campgrounds, not much around it.

15 min north? Are you still on Indian land or is it deeded up there? I would say Indian land, you will get hassled. Deeded land will depend on if you have neighbors or not and what they are doing.

I would contact Needles and ask for the specs they require. It may not be much more to have it permitted. Are there any others at the neighbors? Maybe ask them.

I don't think anyone would bother you until someone was building and a seasoned inspector came out and noticed it. If it is the same guy all the time, he will know what has been inspected and what hasn't if there is that little going on there.

Call Stewart Concrete in Mohave Valley. Julia will design n give you a price. It will be close to the price at United car ports.com. They build these in 5 foot sections, so a 26 footer will sometimes cost the same as a 31 footer. Test that out on the online build tool to get the biggest/widest for the same price!
