I'm sure everyone has noticed that most of our electronics are being manufactured in China. With that said, it seems that there may be a smaller gap between the name and off brand stuff.
I have been looking at Eonen brand stuff on line and it looks very good for the money. They make claims of being certified by Philips (LSCD License). It got me wondering if these were, maybe, the actual name brand products with the in house Eonen brand on them.
While I've never heard of Farenheit, I'm guessing that if I keep looking I'll find other brands that I have heard of that also appear identical.

What are your thoughts on these?:hmm

This one is a unit that Crutchfield sells for $100 more under the Farenheit brand:

I don't believe Farenheit is a big brand, so I certainly wouldn't pay a $100 more for that name.

I agree, I just noticed that it's the same unit and that Crutchfield (big company) is selling it.

Has to be decent quality for Crutchfield to sell it. They dont sell junk.

That's what I was thinking. My 11 yo in dash factory cd changer does nothing but flash the lights, with discs still in it.:grumble:

I'm gonna try to reset it/get the discs out, but I have a bad feeling that I'll need a new one. I can't handle the radio much longer.

I was looking at this one and I could add a cam for reverse.:champagne:
It's got 5.1 ouput and you can hook up a 40gb portable hard drive.

Looks like a pretty nice little unit.

I buy from Ctruchheads all the time. If you found it cheaper then use CF to check the fit of their unit to your car, place the order so you can get the dash adapter p.n. so you can source that also, then cancel it.

Keep in mind that for that extra $100 you will get all the stuff to put it in from CF included. Can easily add up to $ 60 elsewhere and then the grief of buying it all over the US.

They are a one stop and thats why I shop there.

Edit...I have to stop posting from my BlackBerry. Way to many errors in my typing.

Yup, I've shopped with them before but they don't carry the one I'm looking at. I'll do that trick to check the size requirements. :thumbsup

EDIT~~~~~~~~~~

They're no help, they list a 1 din opening....:grumble:

I would never buy a flip out screen again. The gears ware out. If you get on a bumpy rode you will see the screen shaking.

Crutchfields site should tell you if it is a double DIN or not.

That would make it easy and free up some space down below, too.

I agree. I have one in my Tundra and the bouncing drives me crazy.

They make install kits with a pocket under the radio to make it a 2 din.

It's not a gps unit so I won't be driving with it....if I buy it.:thumbsup

I'll rarely be using the screen and I'll probably get a mini screen for the reverse cam.

I could mount this little sucker where the 4 disc changer is now, down below.

This one clamps over the existing mirror, comes with a cam (with night vision) and doubles as a hands free for the phone.

I worked in (DC) audio, video, and security from 1987 to 2009. In the last 10 years I installed several Farenheit head units and I didn't like any of them and I had to do warranties on most of them.

Even if brand A and brand B are both made in China doesn't mean that both companies have the same quality control or quality of design.

I understand that, but I have been reading mostly positive reviews of Eonen products. Have you any experience with them?

Hotrod56 is right, this unit may do the job, but functionality and quality will be lower than other major brands. In car audio, as with most things, you get what you pay for. Sure you can find a unit that has a ton of features and looks like it will do the job, but will it really be what you want? I know by lining up the features and the price it seems like this is a good deal, but I know you will ultimately be unhappy with this unit.

Stick with Major brands, Alpine, Kenwood, Pioneer.

Thanks for the advice! :thumbsup

On another note, what will I find behind that cover plate on the dash? Is there room in there to install a single din stereo head unit and a 7" screen? .and any chance the cd changer is not beyond fixing?

Yes, you can install both the single din and a 7" screen, but why not just get a double din unit that will do all of the same stuff in less room? Do you have a need for both the radio and the monitor separately?

All I saw was the picture if your interior, what model and year is it?

I wouldn't fix the changer, usually the cost of the repair is near to or in excess of a new radio.

Yeah, that's what I was afraid of. it kinda sux because I was happy with the factory system, although it did need an amp.

It's a 2000 Concorde with the infinity system.
As you probably know, the Infinity speakers are not what you buy from Infinity at the stereo shop, they are 2 ohm, paper cone jobs. I was going to find some replacements for them (I already paid $70 for a door speaker, only to have the other side go away soon after...lol) and carry on, but this no cd's stuff sux. LOL The head unit is a cassette player with changer control.

PS I was looking at the seperate screen and head unit just because I thought it would look really cool!:D:p:cool:

Yeah, the infinity stuff is good, for a factory system but you can do more for less going aftermarket. When you change out the stereo, change out the speakers too. Cheap upgrade to make it sound much better. I think you have 6.5 in the front, and 6X9 in the back deck.

Yes they do. That unit is definitely towards the bottom in quality

I agree, but, from what I've read, the Eonen's are better than the typical cheapo brands at the stores that sell for more. I may be willing to give them a shot. The head unit is $125 delivered. It's got a lot of features that I'll never use but I like the ability to hook up all sorts of external inputs (memory card, mp3 player, 40GB hard drive). Also, it has 5.1 channel output which means that I could still use my front center channel and keep that soundstage thing going. It really does sound good but lacks punch. An amp will fix that.:thumbsup The DVD player is a nice novelty but having a backup cam will be very usefull because I can't see a thing behind me in that car.

This is the head unit I'm looking at:

I'll let you be the guinea pig on this one. Let us know how it works out. You get what you pay for and that really applies to audio.

I don't have any experience with Eonen products. Al & Ed's has given you the exact same advice as I would recomend. Stay with Alpine, Kenwood, and Pioneer. Cheap products give cheap results. I would get one head unit that has the features you want built into it vs. getting a seperate head unit and a seperate screen installed in the dash, the functionality will be much better. 90% of automotive stock speakers are junk and are easy upgrades.

Although I haven't used their service in a few years, for a factory changer repair I would use Auto Radio Specialist's in downtown San Diego (1565 India Street, San Diego, CA - (619) 234-8293).

I have quite a few friends who've worked for Al & Ed's, a lot of really cool custom work has been made in their shops. :champagne:

Has anyone seen one of these Eonon units?

I went to their website and looked around for a few. It seems either they have incredible technology allowing them to build their stuff far cheaper than any other manufacturer or you get what you pay for. $320 for a double DIN with AM/FM/CD/DVD/GPS all on a touch screen, that's about all of the information I need to know on whether or not to buy it for myself. No way.

The Technology they have has nothing to do with their ability to manufacture Cheaper. I was involved with car audio for many years. Their stuff is your basic bottom of the barrel stuff and they try to sell it as something much better then it is. You get what you pay for. Go ahead and buy the cheap equipment, but dont complain when it breaks prematurely and you get NO support from your retailer or manufacturer.

As far as integrating it into your factory system that is a whole other can of worms but lets take this one step at a time. To be blunt with you, it sound like you are inexperienced in this field. I would highly recommend hinm finding a reputable shop and letting them do the work for you. more damage can be done trying to do the install your self than you will save by doing it yourself ;)

I just came across a company that makes, among other things, on board computers. :hmm
http://www.lilliput.cn/PC-746.html
That's a pretty cool option on my 69. I'll be using Megasquirt to control the turbo engine and an on-board computer would allow me to have a video screen virtual dash.

In the Chrysler, the problem I ran into when I wanted to upgrade my speakers was that they are 2 ohm factory speakers and the amps do not put out enough power for the higher ohm speakers.
Can you guys recommend some decent 2 ohm replacements?
I may just replace the changer if it won't reset, they are available used.

Negative, Riverbound, I had no intention of integrating it into the factory system. If I drop the changer I have to replace the head unit or get the same changer to replace it. The only other option would be to add some kind of mp3 line in hook up so I could live without the cd changer. Radio sux!:grumble:

I bet he ran it into the shifter!

This is pretty wild! A pc for the car. I could put this in my 69 with a 7" touchscreen down in front of the shifter and a 12" wide screen for a guage cluster!

I believe technology has everything to do with cost. How much did cell phones cost when they first came out? How much do cell phones cost now? Let's apply the same theory to stereo's. How much were CD players when they came out? How much do CD players cost now?

Inexperienced, lmao. I started installing stereo's in 1980 and professionally started installing them in 1987 and worked in the field up to 2009. I believe that I am one of the top ten installers in San Diego county. Integration and troubleshooting are my specialty. I've been building fiberglass enclosures before I ever saw them in a magazine. I can build custom crossovers (passive or active). Have you ever installed a security system in a train? I have. How about building a custom sound system for a plane? I have. For a couple of years I was the only car stereo installer allowed to install for San Diego BMW and Cunningham BMW in El Cajon. Installs are in my past now, Rhuematiod Arthritis sucks.

Well then considering your past history in Mobile electronics you should see exaclty where my post was coming from. ;) I was refering to the thread starter when I referenced his inexperience. The questions he is asking point this out. being that you are one of the best im guessing you have seen your fair share of DIY'ers getting in over there head. As far as my experience......I have installed a thing or two in a thing or two ;):D

Sorry I must have misread your post above in regards to keeping or integrating into your factory speakers and amp system.

Your dash without any custom mods would house a 1 din only. It is technically 1.5 din but due to the rounded edges on those chrysler radios only a 1 din will fit. I know with the trucks you can buy the dash panel for the Nav and then house a 2din in there, not sure if thats an option for the cars. If they offered a nav in that car you might be able to go that route and use a 2d in dash kit.

Me either but I'd pay an extra 50 bucks for the Celsius brand.
