If this goes to court which i doubt. The car insurance company will be the one on the hook. Most likely will settle out of court with the insurance company

Maybe I should sue my dead parents because my dong isn’t 8 inches long.

The bottom feeder is really missing the boat here. He should sue the oil company that provided the crude to the refinery that made the gas, the refinery, the trucking company that shipped the fuel to the gas station, the gas station owner for providing the gas, the state and local governments for provided the road to get the jeep to the dealership, the receptionist at the dealership and most of all the clutch manufacturer.

Or go straight to the source and sue the DD who, ultimately, was the source of the crude because, hey, he started it...😁
You forgot about the shoe mfg! Probably a separated sole caused this…

Public transportation in the Dallas metro area, including Plano and other suburbs, is provided by DART (Dallas Area Rapid Transit). We pay a 1% sales tax for their shit system.

Anyway, the Oak Cliff area in South Dallas is where their primary clientele "stays". When a DART bus is involved in an accident, no matter how trivial, all of the passengers on the bus have instantly won the Oak Cliff lottery.

Cha-Ching.
I flipped a house in Oak Cliff.
Got broken-into twice, and they stole my fucking JenAir stove.

But I sorta got the last laugh because the stove needed a $600 part to work…it was shipping when the stove got taken, so I just returned the part.

If I were the Jeep owner, I'd turn around and sue the dealership for sure! There should be ZERO reason the owner is responsible for a DIME of this accident at all!!

Good standings in the courts for this attorney to win and win big. As owner of private property that is mechanical, that can be operated in an unsafe manner, shall at all time be maintained in a safe manner as not to cause harm to person or property.

Having worked around shops a large majority of my life, two things stand out to me. The kid who can't drive stick is one. The other is the dead guy. Any time a car was rolling into the bay, you pay attention. If it's a pit, 4-post, 2-post...didn't matter, you never knew the car or if the driver could control it.

Car owner who left Jeep at dealership gets sued after worker dies during oil change.... Long time automotive industry professional here , thought I had heard it all ;)

This is right up there with spilling your own coffee on yourself and suing McDonalds for a few million. There is a common denominator here somewhere...

The truth shall set you free!

This is how it works. It starts at the top and works down. The car owner will still have some very high legal fees. It's just the way life is. The attorney wins big.

You guys must have memory loss. This is Michigan. Remember the case of the tire rotation? Guy had is tires rotated and the mechanic didn't tighten the lug nuts. Owner pulls off and the wheels fell off. Owner sued the dealership and LOST. Judge said that the tire rotation did not include tightening the lug nuts or something like that.
Personally the Judge needed to be taken out back and reminded of how painful life can be without common sense

Let's get more facts before stringing up the lawyer. By Michigan state law, the family was only allowed to sue the vehicle owner. But the owner's insurance company filed against the dealership and won. This is why the dealership has insurance too. Because the stupid kid did something he should not have done.

From Jalopnik:

In March of 2020, a customer took his Jeep to Rochester Hills Chrysler Jeep Dodge in Rochester, Michigan for an oil change. That’s when tragedy struck. According to FOX 2 Detroit, a 19-year-old dealership employee got behind the wheel of the Jeep and accidentally ran over another employee, 42-year-old Jeffrey Hawkins, who died instantly. Now, Hawkins’ family is suing the Jeep owner—not because that person held any responsibility for this tragedy, but because that’s the family’s only path for recourse under Michigan law.

By all accounts, this was an avoidable tragedy. As FOX 2 Detroit reports, the 19-year-old employee did not have a driver’s license and did not know how to drive a manual-transmission vehicle. When the employee got in the Jeep to start the engine, he took his foot off the clutch pedal and the Jeep began moving, striking and killing Hawkins.

As Femminineo explained to Jalopnik, the Hawkins family can’t directly sue the dealership or its management. Michigan workers’ compensation law says you cannot sue a fellow employee for negligence while on the job. So the Hawkins family’s only option was to sue the Jeep owner. But that doesn’t mean the Jeep owner will be held responsible for the accidental death.

According to Femminineo, when the Hawkins family filed suit against the Jeep owner, that person immediately sued the dealership for indemnification, and won. With that victory in place, whatever results from the Hawkins family’s suit against the Jeep owner will be the legal responsibility of Rochester Hills Chrysler Jeep Dodge (and their insurance company). Basically, while the owner of the Jeep is named in the suit, that person won’t face any repercussions from the trial or judgment.

According to Femminineo, the trial is set for May 20 in Oakland County, Michigan. The family is seeking $15 million in damages.

Why did Rochester Hills Chrysler Dodge Jeep hire a 19-year-old with no driver’s license, or let that employee assist with service-department work that clearly required driving skills that person lacked? That remains an open question. Jalopnik has reached out to Rochester Hills Chrysler Jeep Dodge for comment, but did not receive a response by press time. If we hear back from the dealership, we will update this article.

Actually looks like Michigan. Very strange to me.

Imagine being the wife and parents of the guy that was killed. You'd want some compensation. Not sure how the lawyer is the problem here.
Not sure how the car owner is the problem here. If you can’t see how the lawyer is the problem I feel sad for you. My sister is a lawyer and is just as pissed about this as everyone else.

The REAL problem is the fucking idiot service manager who hired a kid with no drivers license and no ability to drive a stick, in a JEEP dealership!!!

This is the guy that 100 percent should be held accountable.

Along with the idiot who hired that service manager...

😡😡😡

Anyone who's ever worked in a dealership service department, knows Exactly how this situation came to be...
