Ok what's the deal/hookup for a car key replacement?

$200.00 from the dealer seems just a LITTLE steep.
Can I get one online and program it myself?

Went to get a spare for my Porsche the key part was 475 and the head part was 450 and had to bring my car in to program it. I decided didnt need a key so bad.

Yup, I paid about the same for my Porsche key, it's a very expensive deal.

A lot of dealers won't sell you the key without seeing the car. my son got one from the dealer only because he knew the service writer who vouched for him.

What kinna car??

The parts dept. is not suposta order a key without the driver being present (with his drivers licence), and the vehicle registration in hand (this also has to be in the drivers name).

Helps prevent theives from coming in and ordering keys with just the VIN number, and then driving off in your car.

I bought a replacement key from these guys, was cheap and works perfectly after I programmed it.

https://www.ikeyless.com/

You can get bare keys to mechanically unlock a door, or transponder keys that allow you to start your engine. Just need to get the key cut and programmed to your vehicle if you want it to start the engine.

It all depends on the car...some allow owners to program keys, others require a dealer visit. But the parts cost should be cheaper than your dealer...or maybe your dealer can match the price.

Could save a bundle :thumbsup

Thanks for the link,

Says I need two working keys to program the new key.

If I had two working keys I wouldn't need the replacement.:grumble::D

Something tells me the difference in price form the dealer and buying the key online will = the quote given straight from the dealer.:p

year/make/model

I can do about 90% of today's modern transponder "chip" keys. Don't buy online, most of the time I have another way of doing it for less money than it costs to program the cheap keys bought online.
