So the wife got a small reduction on Her 18' Mazda ... used to be that they would survey us periodically to "adjust our various" vehicle rates .... so were chatting this morning and she says " how did the know what my mileage was at they didn't call and I didn't stop by ?' .... Well turns out we some research that some of your info ma be being sold to insurance companies when you take your car in for service , In this case the dealer /manufacturer

Not surprised at all. Seems everyone's information is available for purchase for the right price.

This is a DOI thing, thank your elected Dept of Ins commissioner for this. State Farm used to have a different discount plan and leave it up to the client to report. Other companies have been using this data for years, now the state is requiring that all companies move to a “pay per mile” type rate. Another fun fact this forum will love is the Gender “Neutral” rates all companies will be required to change to by 2020. Since DMV now offers a 3rd Gender “x” it wouldn’t be fair for these freaks to pay the same rate as male or female right?! [emoji2361]

People are shocked with the amount of information that automatically comes through our system when I start a quote. Not a whole lot is private anymore.

Performance carmakers often void warranties due to track use.

And they’re able to use the car’s GPS to see if you’ve taken the car to a track.

You know that plug in deal from State Farm....

Progressive and other companies as well...

Insurance companies are in business to make $$$ and one way or the other they are going to stay profitable.

Rates are going up because of the floods and fires as well as crap drivers and cost to fix cars....I get asked daily why rates aren't goind down and have to share with them that nothing is going down ;)

I have clients that straight lie about mileage and where they or there children live and can't understand why someone traveling 20K a year should pay more than a client that travels 5,000 or why there kids rate in downtown LA is more than irvine.

We just had gender neutral rates added to our system....what a joke

AAA still leaves it up the client to report.

My zip code earns me very high rates.

Evidently my zip code has very crappy drivers according to the insurance company. And I can confirm this is true:D

I don’t like to point fingers but well you know ;)

State Farm did away with that years ago in CA and only offered it for a year or so. Other companies are still pushing it.

I thought one of those companies actually had a deal that plugged into your cars diagnostic system and would report back info? They were offering discounts for people that did it.

a lot of them do, we used to have one that plugged into OBDII and monitors heavy accel, heavy braking, overall miles, and late night driving. Our new device is a tag that you stick on the windshield which bluetooth pairs to your smartphone and uses the accelerometer in your phone to monitor the same parameters for 90 days. If you behave yourself for those 90 days it really is a great way to save money, I ended up saving 16% on my own policy.

With my comm'l insurance they want my dot inspection for med/ hd trucks and my mileage tax form for light duty.

I am 100% honest with my insurance guy, the last thing I want is them to deny a claim because of something I didn't do/ say

You didn’t tell me about that. My truck doesn’t do anything quickly and the wife drives like a girl. Might help

State Farm just raised my rates this month. $100 increase. They told me it was because they did away with the Drive Safe and Save self reporting mileage like mentioned above. Sucks. Guess its time to shop again.

I've recently purchased and have been doing a lot of research around the MCU systems inside of the tesla and you'll be amazed how much data they acquire and send back to the mothership about your driving. the car almost knows if you've farted in the seat. gen 1/2 systems have a 4gb sdcard and the gen3 MCU/ECU (model 3) systems are double. 8gb of data about how you drive is a *TON* of information, including photos to train their autopilot systems. in fact theres so much logging by the linux operating system alone that they're consuming all of the emmc's write cycles and the cars are dying because the chip burns out.

its only going to get worse as tech increases in cars.

You would think experienced drivers would get the discount. A person that clocks 30-40k mi per year is better prepared than granny going to the mall twice a week

Most grannys are safe/good drivers we don't have nearly the issue as with older gentleman.

young kids are the worst.... So many totaled cars in the first 12 months of driving.

Good drivers with lots of experience with married rates and multi policy discounts can be pretty dang fair price wise.

It's all analytics...They have everything mapped out to the 10th degree. The more you drive on so cal freeways it's only a matter of time before something happens. (rear ended , cut off, sideswiped or shit falling off a truck)

Look at @Riverbound his insurance company has taken some major losses and neither accident was his fault yet the drivers had shit policies. (most of those freeway drivers are uninsured or under insured)

You know that plug in deal from State Farm....

15% reduction in rates if you install one. The only problem is if you drive a lot at night, hit your brakes too hard, or exceed 80 mph, that discount disappears pretty quick. This year I only got a 6% discount. I drive a lot after dark, and occasionally forget my speed, and get up over 80mph passing.

Yup. It baffles me how little insurance people are allowed to carry. [emoji107] fuck those fuckers. Their shit policies won’t even cover the property loss.

Does their rate go up? When I transitioned and my DL went from M to F my insurance when up a few hundred buxs.

I thought it would be the opposite. Don't female drivers have fewer accidents than men?

You mean when people brag about how cheap their insurance is and they leave out the fact that it’s a 15k liability bare minimum policy that’s not a good thing?

I hate that I have to carry “underinsured insurance”.

Try insuring 10-12 cars. . The multi car discount is pretty good. The mileage thing is a pain in the ass as they are all older dumb cars . And forget about the raceteering at the DMV. . I feel like Flecth. Mooooonnnnn RrrrrIiiiiiiivvverrrr.

If you’re currently enrolled in Drive Safe & Save in California, on your first renewal on or after April 1, 2019, your Drive Safe & Save discount will be replaced with a different way to collect your actual miles driven. Rather than you reporting your mileage prior to each renewal or using an OnStar plan, State Farm will receive mileage readings for your car from a third party vendor annually.

Guess I need to call my agent, since some of my cars don’t see a shop at all (I do the maintenance) and others are currently being used by my out of state kid.

No, you’re doing it right because you have a lot to loose in case of a catastrophic incident. The people that have minimum coverages usually don’t have shit and if anything happens, they have nothing to loose.

Correct.....

Most of my clients with assets understand the need to cover themselves correctly. Some don't until it's too late.

Years ago we decided to write 25/50/25 with UM at a minimum. If you want state minimum we won't write it as thats just not the customer we are after.

Interesting
So yesterday i drop off my truck at ford for 2 cosmetic warranty things

Guy next to me had a raptor. He was telling the service writer the truck has a steering problem
But cant duplicate it on the street. Only when he is "going fast' off road.
Truck had slight lift, wheels and tires, lights all over, some homo overland stuff.
He told the service writer to have the tech start looking for something
Then also asked that the valve cover oil leak be fixed.

Clearly this truck was driven like it was in the desert bash poker race.

Is a raptor insurable in the dirt?
I never heard the service writers reply, i left

Only exclusions to coverage on most auto policies is if it's a closed course event. You can't take your raptor to an open track day at Glen Helen short course and try to claim it.

My wife (girlfriend at the time) rolled my truck on dirt, fully covered.

All these new vehicles track and record way more information then just mileage and speed. Way more…
