So I am painting the old Sleek this winter, I have just a bit to go before it's time for the clear coat and can't decide to replace the original wood grain graphics where the cream color is or not, the cream is the perfect base color to wood grain to, so once I air brush the wood grain on it's a done deal...chit ton of sanding to go back, Sleek Craft went to the NO wood grain graphics in the next model year, so help me make the call it's either No wood grain = 80's vibe paint or Yes Wood grain it for the original classic look

Those boats are still sexy. I like wood grain if it’s right, but either will fly

I’d choose whatever is the least amount of work. People always try to make simple things complicated. Since it looks like adding the wood grain is an extra step I would not do it.

I do appreciate the classic wood look but I must say the clean look on the other side is quite appealing.

I really like the look of the wood grain. I also like the simplicity of it without.

See wood in the morning. Sea wood is old school. Since you asked I like the non-wood look

For somebody who had two Spectras with woodgrain [ pacalon ] I would vote no wood. Reason is, the dark pacalon looked great on my 20' & 24 Spectras against the white hulls with blue stripes, red on the 24. The lighter woodgrain on many daycruisers like the Sleek Craft, Nordic Ambassador and others, never looked as sharp to catch my eye. When I restored the 24, got it painted classy cream with red trim. People always commented on it. Jsust my worthless 0.02 cents opinion.

I’m sure a good painter can make it Bitchin no matter what you decide.
Sometimes doing away with the original wood grain style makes it look like a man wearing a bad toupee. 🤷‍♀️

No point trying to mask the classic feel of that hull. Keep the wood grain 👍

lets do some math
a $12 springs breakfast burrito cost about $30 in gas+$10 launch fee + about $0.28 a day in year round insurance for a total of $52.28 via SleekCraft
or
a $12 springs breakfast burrito cost at least $60 in gas +$20 launch fee(DCB's only launch on weekends- some kind of rule)+$5000/120 day layup =$27.78 a day insurance, + new black socks= $12 and the 180 ct zip tie pk is $9 for a total of $141.78 via DCB and lets not forget the $3200 a month home equity loan payment for $105.20 a day and that same breakfast burrito now costs $246.98 via DCB.... and for what you get to order your burrito 3 mins sooner only to watch the person that ordered after you food comes out before yours.............

If it has the original pacalon I would keep it. If you are trying to put some foe wood grain on it I would got to just the cream color.

LOL you forgot to factor in the Tow/CamelToe vehicles Carl, you can get by with a square body(s) for your rig all day long. ;)

yea I was going to factor in the $250k sport chassis +ins,+6mpg,+registration,+$12 fuel to go get the black socks and zip ties, then there is the mandatory boob job + lipo suction+ Brazilian butt lift, +new custom bikini, +new sandals, + new DCB towels, +$200 boat detail, I am betting a springs breakfast burrito is more like $500ish a day via DCB

I would keep it blank and get a section of wrap applied to make the wood grain. Easy to go either way with it later if you just need to peel the wrap off vs paint.

THANKS ALL FOR THE INPUT......it's helped me form a game plan, The Cream is growing on me (brightens up the boat) but I like my matched set of Wagoneer and boat
so
1st I am going to paint the Sleek Craft logo in the red over the cream this weekend and see how that looks
if I don't like it, wipe it off
2nd will be wood graining it back to original, I am actually good at doing it and know I can repeat the original pattern
waggywood.jpg

in the end I will most likely end up right back where I started with a matched set
waggyboat.jpg

with one new feature.......power windows ;)
