I have a question for people that own boats with canopies. I think they have three shades clear, bronze and dark. I know the dark probably sucks at dusk and night but I wanted advice from people that have owned and of the shades and why they would choose that shade again. Thank you

There's only a few areas on the clear that you "clearly" see through. Assuming you actually need the canopies due to the performance, DEFINITELY CLEAR. At speed, function beats looks every time. Even if you don't run over any boats or people, i'll bet the drive on what your running is worth something to you. My buddy has the tinted on his Daytona, and you can't see anything floating in the water - logs, stuff that shouldn't be IN THE WATER. Really good sunglasses look just as good as the tinted / dark .

I recall reading somewhere that there are/were different "grades" of clear canopies? Some with better optical clarity than others. Is this a raw material upgrade or manufacturing process difference?

The handful of canopy boats I have been in have a had a ridiculous amount of visible distortion in the canopies when looking forward, to the point that it didn't feel safe at speed to me. I wasn't driving so that may have added to my discomfort, but running at 100+ on a lake with normal traffic and not being able to see clearly felt bad. I cant imaging a F-16 fighter with crappy canopy optics is good for business, so there must be a way to make them without distortion.

Mine are shit. Look cool but not safe at speed. I use my throw cusion as a booster to look just over the top. I have been in Eliminators and DCB. They are better but still wouldn't trust at speed. Unless its a real fighter jet glass I think they are all distorted.

The ones I had in a DCB F29 were pretty good. It still was view limiting if you are trying to look through the port side one essentially driver is double distorted.

If you are asking me, 27' Eliminator, early 2000's model I think.

Sorry I meant the original poster.

As far as your experience, most of the earlier eliminator Daytona canopies are pretty bad. Aero marine make a retrofit replacement that’s a lot better, same quality as the newer speedster windshields which are in par with skater wrap arounds.

Skater quarter canopies were cut down versions of the F-16 race canopies and were pretty good, but no longer available and are all yellowing now.

DCB F series are all acrylic and really good. The wrap around M series DCB windshield is the best in the business.

2003 Eliminator 25 Daytona ICC - NO clear line of site anywhere on the clear version - had to use cushion to see over w/goggles. At the time, it was you wallet to fix it, I sold it
