Wife and daughter! boat and tow with truck.

Agreed though, they'd both rather just sit back and chill, but they can rock a boat no problem if needed or wanted. ;)

Took my ol lady to a Walmart parking lot when we got our first toy hauler. Explained the basic how everything is opposite when backing up. From there I just kept my mouth shut and let her figure it out(had to bit my tounge a few times). Couple hours later she could back it into any parking spot I pointed at. Now she can put the trailer right under the boat so I dont even have to drive it on just clip tighten and go.. makes my life so much easier not having to do it all.. plus she gets a kick out of out doing most guys at the ramp it's kinda funny..

My wife has been applauded multiple times after stabbing the boat on trailer perfectly...makes her head swell and me chest puffing proud too. :p:D

Not only has mine driven all of our boats but she's got some seat above 100 m.p.h., she even took out our 29' Shockwave with just her and a friend.

A few pics of her driving that I quickly grabbed off of FB....

My wife drives all our boats very well. She can launch and retrieve them by herself also. She takes them out with her friends water skiing etc. She probably puts more hours on them per season than I do.

Been with my wife since HS.... She has been pulling me skiing for better part of 25 years. Best investment was putting PerfectPass on the boat. Made it easier to hold speed when she had to deal with our daughters running around the boat when they were growing up. She can launch, retrieve, and parallel park at floating bars.

There should be someone on board that can take over if you are hurt/sick that can take over the responsibility of the boat to get everyone back home. Knowing what to do if you encounter a problem could mean the difference between a good day and a bad day.

Contingency plan, always prepares for the worst and hopes for the best.

Alright man, I honestly cannot tell which is mom and which is daughter.... You're both a lucky (beautiful wife) and unlucky (daughter defense) man. Lol!

My wife can but has no desire, mainly in a emergency situation that hopefully is never needed.

Wife can run the boat, she'd rather not, but for the reasons mentioned earlier she can. She can put it on the trailer better than I can. We tried her backing the trailer, that didn't end well, she wont try it again.
Daughter can run the boat, and has run a couple different boats over 100mph. She can also back a trailer as well.
Best end of day boating for me is when I step off the boat and wife and daughter handle trailering duties!

Can she drive the boat?... Yes. She knows how to start the boat, call 911 while driving, and drive the damn thing up the beach to get me into the ambulance. If I don't need an ambulance she doesn't need to drive.

LOL, thanks man. My wife will be happy to hear that. I am lucky with both and daughter is engaged so, don't have to worry about all that either.

Does your significant other drive the boat? Or at least can they ?

My wife has been adamant since before we were married that she had zero interest in driving the boat or learning to. She’s perfectly content to just be a passenger, which is fine but I want her to be able to drive if needed. I’ve brought this up several times before and she just puts it off. Finally this year we got in a bit of an argument and I told her the main reason was not for me to get really drunk and just let her assume command but if something happens to me (not alcohol related) she needs to be able to get us back home. Hopefully nothing happens but would always rather be safe then sorry.

I don’t really view this as an unreasonable request but would appreciate others input.

I made sure my wife can drive the boat, dock the boat, plus back the trailer in and retrieve the boat, just in case

Now if its a busy weekend and parking is slim.. I have to dock it..run up to the truck ..park the thing and all. So ..i pretty much launch by myself.. Process sounds familiar. Busy weekend at Nautical will bring a tear to my eyes. Jack Smith can make for a good jog in flip flops.

Mine simply refuses...I have had to wait for my kids to get old enough to drive for me to ski.

When I meet my wife in Havasu she had her own Caliber 1 boat. I sold mine and used hers until we bought the Eliminator. :) We always split the day driving. Me in the morning and her in the afternoon. She doesn't drink. :p

Pretty much our program also.

Yes. She can drive it if needed. She’s pulled me tubing & wake boarding. Her main job is truck duties. She does it better than most men.

BTW, I had an ex I was trying to teach to drive my boat and she freaked out and just literally threw her arms up and let got of the wheel and took her foot off the throttle. Luckily I was sitting right behind her and could reach up and grab the wheel since my boat only has cable steering. So, when teaching someone to drive, stay within arms reach of the wheel at least.

My chick cruised around my old ultra and Howard pretty dam good. Only thing with the Howard is she would get nervous going thru the channel with traffic because of the blower surge and having to go in and out of gear a bunch of times. Which i dont blame her, channels a cluster fuck anyways lol. She hasn't driven the 270 yet, but im sure she will do just fine.

She used to drive and trailer all the time.....with confidence..

But..... It just takes one time shifting from forward to reverse about 2500 rpm.....O SHIT

Now she's a bit gun shy but she'll do it if I insist

(I'm more comfortable with my daughters taking the helm)

Can my wife drive a boat? That's a stupid question. I taught the then girl friend how to drive a boat before she became my wife. I needed someone to pull me when no one else was around...

Matter of fact this thread reminds me of this story. We're out in Sarasota, Fl testing the 80' Nortech "Lady Lisa" for Powerboat Magazine a few years back and my wife is like, I want to drive it. Jason Johnson (Editor at time now Editor of Speed On The Water) laughs like, yea, that probably wont happen.

We're out running around 60mph outside the harbor, I'm down in the cabin taking pics and checkin shit out and Doug Valentine (the boats capt) comes walking down and starts BS'n with me. After a moment, I'm like, "who's driving the boat?" He goes, "Kelly is" LOL I ran up and snapped a pic. It was pretty funny. Big focker, straight gets it too.

I've taught several people how to back up a trailer. Some are naturals, some not. I've found that females that want to learn get it pretty quick. Males that think they know how are harder to teach to get it right. I learned how at 14. It is so instinctive, I sometimes get frustrated with people that don't take it slow and read the reaction of the trailer. I've only had one experience with a female driver of a boat as I was the passenger. She owned the boat (19 foot cobalt and thought she was the shit) She was somewhat competent, but at times scared the crap out of me. She would crank the steering to full lock and full throttle and didn't understand that doing that would unload the keel and the boat would hook. She would usually do that in tight coves at Lake Mead and one time it threw me out of the passenger seat onto the floor in the back. Never rode in that boat with her at the controls ever again. She now owns a Yamaha YXZ and I will not ride with her driving it either. She is bat shit crazy and has a minimum of talent.
