I took my vehicle to the dealership for a B check up. So MB sends me a survey, I always do surveys if I feel it will help the next person. So I do the survey and rated them an overall 4. You may ask why, there’s always room for improvement. MB just called me and complimented me for taking time to do the survey. He ask me if I would take the survey over again and rate them a 5. What’s your thoughts?😎

This is how bean counters have absolutely ruined everything in society. Everything is turned into some kind of bullshit "performance metric" so that some paper pusher can justify their job.

Why bother asking to have the customer complete the survey if they have a predetermined outcome anticipated?

I'd redo it and rate them a 3

Don't forget how universities now universally hand out A grades.

Nope, don’t change a thing. Generally they need perfect ratings, otherwise it can be looked at as falling short….like you said, room for improvement.

If they took the time to call and ask you to change your rating, they could’ve asked what it would have taken for them to earn a 5. If they didn’t, they can go pound sand. I still wouldn’t change it.

Maybe they’ll make a notation on your account as needing to go above and beyond in the future.

When I was in the business, anything less than a 5 was basically the same as a 1. It's a shitty way of measuring performance. All or nothing is BS. If you really like the service you got, give them a 5. It means a lot to them. If they suck balls, leave it the same. But 4's are basically 1's.

I know some places offer a free oil change if you bring the card in and let them fill it out. Not sure the paper card is even a thing any more. LOL

Or give him the Bigger FU and make him wait longer and maybe skip a step or two on the next service.
That’s just my pessimistic attitude towards most everything these days. 🤷🙄😜

Yes. Absolutely a real possibility these days, even with a big business.

That’s what sucks, a rogue employee could completely screw a company.

The service advisors job depends on good surveys.

If they drop below a certain threshold they are gone...

Story time:

In 1995 I bought a new BMW 525i, I downrated the sales experience on the survey because they lied about how they would title the car.

Dealer called me and asked "how can we make it right" I said how about installing a CD changer? (because 1995)

I took it in the next day for my new CD changer, they gave me a loaner to drive to lunch while they did it.

Some dealerships the pay plans for the service advisors are based off of surveys. No 5's then you don't make squat or can even get written up/ fired. Horrible system because any shortcomings in the rest of the dealership (dirty bathroom, out of coffee in the waiting area, took too long to bring your car around for you, etc.) the advisor gets punished for by these surveys. As stated above, anything less than a 5 is basically a 1.

I can tell that sure wasn’t BMW of Monrovia. We were told if we brought our car there for any service we’d get a BMW for a loaner. My took her car in for some warranty work and she got a shitty Nissan Sentra with roll up windows. She was told they were out of BMWs. Man, did I hear about when I got home. I’ve got other horror stories about that dealership, but that’s for another day.

I would redo it and downvote which ever question would cover this guy calling you and asking you to change it. Or downvote everything. Does it say it is anonymous?

If they can call you about it can't be anonymous.
I asked does it "SAY" it is anonymous. Obviously it isn't.
If it says it is an anonymous survey and it isn't there are more issues...

Trust me, the factory has incentives the dealership earns from these surveys which is why some offer a free oil change or whatever.
My store ranked high regularly....by earning the ranking vs buying it from the customers.

If they don't like the conditions or the payscale, they can find a different job. Why have a 4 on the stupid survey if it's basically a 1? Just have a 1 and a 5.

I always hated dealing with CSAT, we used to have a few manufacture partners that used these but they penalized the partner (margin/partnership level) often because of the failure of the manufacture solution if it didn't work as expected. the worst ones were the 1-4 scores because if you didn't get 4s and the expectation was 90 CSAT (which the manufactures always liked publishing on there website as a badge of honor) you got screwed. But all that being said give the score you feel they earned.

Years ago I was buying a new truck and the dealership during negotiations said they'd knock more $$ off if I could guarantee a perfect survey. I said I can do that.

Good boating friend opened a new restaurant. Had a open house to our boat club and he paid for our dinners. I got online and gave him a 5. My buddy gives him a 4. He didn't want to make it look fake. Ken gave him a steak dinner for free, and he gave him a 4. LOL

I had multiple attempts to fix the blend door problem in my Ram. Each time when I went to pick it up I was asked if I would fill out an online survey. 4 visits and I never got that survey. Guess they knew what I was gonna say. Assholes.

What always got me was the customer was unhappy with deal or salesman and on the first survey,he would give a 1 or 2 and this affected our pay in service department.Sales only deals with cust once but service is stuck tryna fix him for three years till warranty over

I've dealt with that on the wife's Chevrolet here in OC.
They handled it a little different. Asking before we left the dealership if I could rate them a 5, and if not what could they do to earn a 5.

If I like a place, I will always give 5's. Personally, I bought a Ram from Mark Dodge in Louisiana and loved the experience and plan on doing it again. They were extremely concerned about getting 5's. They said it affects the way they can get good pricing to pass it on to buyers. My local dealership is owned by a friend of a friend. I have been less than happy with the service department, but I leave 5's because I don't want to affect a potential friendship in the future.

If an experience was just SO SO, I usually just don't provide a rating. I'm not trying to affect someone else's world. We all have off days.

I wish healthcare was like this...could you imagine! We had an issue with our primary care physician...I posted everywhere I could about our horrid experience. That doctor was fired shortly after. He was also trying to run as a progressive republican congressman in North County SD. That didn't work out well for him either.

When I redid my windows the salesman stated that he could knock off some more money if I left a good yelp review for the company with his name noted in it. I said sure. Not like I was gonna leave a bad review anyway for one of my customer’s companies. lol

Was there anything really wrong/missing in your experience, or did you just give them a 4 because nothing is ever 100%? If everything went as expected, with good communication, no surprises on pick up, etc, then I'd give them the 5. There could be a situation in the future where you need them to help you out with something, and you helping them out with the survey rating may stick in their memory.

If they dropped the ball on something, then I would not give them the 5 and I would have a conversation with them about what they missed, but otherwise I'd give them the 5.

Contingent money on the line for the dealer. Someone in management is on the ball and their follow-up on the survey with you is impressive. Some just blow it off.

A 5 rating to me means someone went over the top to make my experience extra special. That doesn't happen very often if ever. Just doing your job gets you a 2 possibly 3 if they are friendly. If someone asked me why they didn't get a 5 on a survey I would ask them what they did that they think they earned a top rating.

In Regards to Monrovia BMW I'll add to it I bought a CPO 750i with 19K miles on it I soon after started having some issues with the car, took it in multiple times and always got a loaner however I paid for a 7 series and mostly drove a 3 series loaner. The issues were attempted to be repaired however two mufflers and several other minor issues they would replace was not a big deal to me but the windows and doors on hot days acted up always the windows would roll down automatically when you unlocked it to cool it off fine but when I started the car and hit the up buttons the front two would roll up all the way and drop about a quarter of the way and then not work.

The doors had automatic door closers that would engage when it was a few inches from closing however they stopped latching and closing all the way. Luckily, I worked five minutes away and would drop it off this happened every day in the summer. One day leaving a buddies house I made a left turn after dropping him at his house out onto a busy street the passenger door flew open after being closed completely.

After several trips and master mechanics looking at it from BMW, they never could fix it and I was pissed so I lemon lawed it, while it went back in for warranty again, they looked at it and said they had no idea what was wrong I had videos of it happening, so it was undeniable and I had videos with them trying to close doors and windows at the dealer with it happening. The service manager told me I should lemon law it while I was there, and I stated already in process.

Here is the kicker I did lemon law it and got all my cash back plus registrations from the two years and when you do this, they have an inspector go over the car at the dealer prior to receiving it to ensure tire tread and windows and etc. are all within range. The fact is they accepted the car back and being I passed by everyday going to work I see it in roughly three days after for sale again on the lot. I called and asked and they stated they do not need to disclose it was a lemon law car. I thought this was insane.

I also went through the requirement of filling out their BS little reviews and I was always honest about them but was never asked to change it they did want more details several times in regard to their incompetence.

I will never buy another BMW again to many issues the maintenance feature getting new wipers and brakes and other consumables was why I bought it but it didn't pay off. Well maybe it did own a 7 series for two years for the cost of insurance but drove a 3 series lol.

This is surprising. I purchased many BMW’s from Monrovia. Driving 40k miles a year I was buying one every 4 years. They always got a 5 on the survey and always treated me really well. I was having a constant issue with a fuel pump after 80k miles they asked if they could lemon the car and gave me a new one. Pretty impressive dealership imho

This surprises me that you guys had good luck with them. We purchased an 06 CPO 550 in 07, upon the walk around I noticed the outsides of the front tires were worn and I called them out on it and said the alignment was out. I told them that I was not going to purchase the car until they replaced the front tires. The salesman brought the used car manager over and asked what he could do to make the sale. I told him to replace the front tires and give the car an alignment. He assured me the alignment was fine and when I need tires bring it over and he’ll replace them for free. I should have gotten that in writing. A couple months later the wife had the wheels turned and I noticed the outer edges of the front tires were worn to the cords. I took it over there the next day for some warranty work and told them about the tires and what the used car manager told me. They told me to go see him. He had no recollection of our conversation and saw that I was getting pissed. He told me he’d get pricing for the tires and give them to me for his cost. In the meantime I got a loaner car - a POS PT Cruiser. I got a call at home that the 2 tires would cost $1800! I told them I only needed the 2 front tires. They told me that’s for the front tires and a 4 wheel alignment. I told them $1800 is ridiculous for 2 tires. They told me the tires are $1400, they’re runflats, and the alignment is $395. I asked if the warranty work was done on the car, they said yes. I told them I’ll take care of the tires and pick up the car.

When I got there to pick up the car they said that they couldn’t release the car because it was unsafe in its current condition. I told them that the car was sold to me in that condition. I told the girl at the cashier desk to have them bring my car out or I’ll be calling the police. She made her call and told me that they won’t release it. I pretended to call Monrovia police and told them that I was being extorted for $1800 so I could get my car back. Then I asked her, do I have a balance on the work that was done on my car? She said no. I spoke "no" into my dead phone. I said thank you, I’ll meet them in front. Before I could get to the door she called back to me and said they are bringing my car up front. That what was I thought the last time I’d deal with these fucks. Ontario BMW outshines Monrovia by leaps and bounds.

I am also a harsh grader. With that said, if the service was otherwise acceptable, I'd change the score.

Dealership advisors get screwed on CSR scores if they AREN'T a 5

This isn't like begging for a google or yelp review. If you feel you were done right by the writer, give em' a 5.

Fast forward to 2018, it's time to get Momma a new car, and we're looking for another 550 or 650 Gran Coupe. BMW of Monrovia has a 2015 CPO 650 Gran Coupe and it's almost $10k less than anyone else, the Carfax checks out, it's not a stripper, and on the BMW website it says that if we finance through BMW we get another $1500 off. We check out the car and it's perfect, I get them to take another $3000 off the price then I tell them about the $1500 off if we finance through BMW - score!

I had a set of M5 wheels and tires from the wife's 2011 550 that I pulled off and put the stocks back on when we sold it a year earlier, I put those on the 650 a couple of days later. I noticed that the front right tire had bulge on the sidewall - these were new tires, they still had nubbies on them. I put the tire in the back of my truck and brought the paperwork with me and went to my favorite BMW dealership. I showed them the paperwork that we just bought the car a few days ago and this tire has a huge bulge in the sidewall. They wanted to see the car, I told them that it's up on jackstands. I told them that if the car had a spare tire, I could have brought the car, but it doesn't, would you feel safe driving a car with tire bulge like this? I'm thinking to myself, "what is it about this place and bad tires?" She then tells me that I have to move my truck out of the service drive. Why? There's plenty of lanes open. Because we can't have that vehicle in the service drive. I told her to take care of me and I'll be on my way. She made a call and said that since it's Saturday their tire guy isn't available, but leave the wheel and tire and I'll have him call you. Can I get a work order or something that says I left the tire with you? She begrudgingly wrote me a ticket and I left. It wasn't until Thursday I was told that my tire was ready come and pick it up. No paperwork or anything. I thanked her and left.

The place was remodeled, but the attitude was still there.

Hey ! Wait a minute ! That Pt Cruiser is a nice car , I had one

I've worked around service advisors on this program. It's no longer about getting your vehicle repaired. All the focus is how to get the customer to give you a top review. This is why I stopped going to dealerships for service and repair.
I've seen this program ruin relationships and be a factor in divorces. Kinda happened to me with a long term girlfriend.

Try not to think about how surveys SHOULD work.
In reality car dealer surveys DONT work that way.
It is all on the service advisor regardless of the overall quality.
If the advisor took care of you for his part give a 5 regardless.
His paycheck depends on it.
Imagine working for 10 hours a day and what you get paid depends on how somebody FEELS about your departments performance.
