Anyone who has tried to start a new business knows it's not an easy task as all. Starting a new business in a horrible economy is almost impossible. Regardless, we are doing just that. Starting a taxi service in a town that has a bad reputation for bad taxi service and pushing hard to show we have a reliable service can be exasperating not to mention very expensive

For some strange reason, fliers and cards that we place in businesses, with their permission, are disappearing and being replaced with a different company...a "shuttle" service. This is strange because this "shuttle" service has never posted fliers that we know of. To date, we estimate about $400.00 worth of advertising materials have been removed without consent. How do we know who it is? The business are telling us. We are finding business cards and fliers in the middle of the street...not just one...stacks. This is going to drive up costs real quick. Maybe that's the perpetrators plan? Who knows.

Now we are getting phone calls from new customers that were fairly regular asking if we are really out of business? WTF? REALLY?

I've talked to the "shuttle" service that has fliers where ours once were and he assured me it wasn't him. Ummmmmm ok.

This is getting annoying at the very least and unfortunately if it continues we will be forced to initiate legal action. I REALLY hate to go that direction but at this point we have invested countless time and financial resources to provide a badly needed service for the area.

This tactic may have worked in the past but I really don't think the "shuttle" service in question has a grasp on the gravity of the situation and the tenacity of River Express.

So, if you have heard that we are no longer in business, please kindly disregard. Why would we get a toll free 24 hour number of 1-877-604-Taxi if we weren't sticking it out for the long haul? Sorry...yes, that was a shameless plug and yes the pun was intended.

That's how we are built. Service is why you call us and service is what we strive to provide. Early growing pains and logistic lessons are expected. Getting everyone home safe is the mission. I just get a little annoyed at seeing cards and fliers....well...flying in the street. Lol.

This happened to me nearly 15 years ago when I started. Lasted nearly 2 years. My competitor who is still in business would do exactly the same thing, take my cards, fliers etc and replace with his. He would tell the tire shops, body shops etc that we didn't make it and I went to work for them. Finally one of my tire shops caught him and gave him the boot, from that day on he didn't stand a chance, he fucked himself.

I may not be perfect 100% of the time but I'd say 98% of the time I treat people great, one thing I don't do is bash my competition, I let my work, word and dedication make me successful.

One thing I would do is make sure your competition knows your on to him or her and to stop immediately. May take a lil bit but rest assured they will know they got caught. Tell all the shops and stores what has happened and before you know it they won't allow them back in.

Lol, you know you had a good time when everyone tells you the next day you had a good time...but you don't remember anything after getting to the bar. You won't give him a piggy back ride if he needs it?

We are doing just that. I don't want to put the business in the middle of petty sandbox tussles. I've talked to the shuttle service but feel it falls on deaf ears. We are just going to ignore it and do damage control like this.

Thanks for the words of encouragement everyone! It helps to reflect on these kind words at 4am when we are ragged from a long night

What childish crap. Those Parker locals who run the "shuttle" service :loser: are scared because they see how you are eventually going to destroy them with superior service. Competition is everywhere in Parker, especially on weekend nights when there are more guys to girls at RR for example. I hope you guys do good business this Labor Day. :D

Thank you, I hope we can handle the volume. We are going to be on point and working our logistical asses off trying to keep wait times down to a minimum. We don't want to destroy anyone or anything. If they destroy themselves that's on them.

If Parker is anything like Havi it can get cut throat. Small town = not enough to go around sometimes. As much as I'd like to trash the dickheads that talk shit it reflects poorly on myself. Let your reputation make a name for you and pretty soon you won't need advertisements;)

I would suggest that you get stickers and start putting them everywhere. Telephones, exits etc.

With permission of course:D

The stickers will be around long after the flyer's

Get a rubber stamp that says:

REDEEM THIS COUPON FOR A FREE RIDE

And stamp the hell outta their flyers :D

I hate to admit this....but that is the funniest thing I've heard all day. We might joke about it but we would never do anything like that as tempting as it sounds. Stickers.....fridge magnets....bigger banners are in the works. We have a radio spot on KPLZ.

I think we are just going to push thru the tantrum and keep doing what we are doing. We just found the petty flyer and card crap to be so annoying then the rumor saying we were out of business...that's when we knew we had to post SOMETHING to quash the rumor.

Its funny what competitors will stoop to. Several years ago we were selling our Vicious Billet speaker grills out of our booth at the LA boat show. Anyone who's displayed there knows it costs a shitload of dough to do so. Somehow stacks of a competitors flyers, who had a booth down the isle a bit, kept appearing on our counter, over days. It would happen when we were really busy or not there overnight. Since it wasn't too hard to figure out who the competitor was I backed off over in a corner one day and just watched. Sure enough one of their guys came by nonchalantly and dropped flyers on our counter amongst the crowd. I didn't say anything as it wasn't the place for a scene but rest assured I was pissed.

It would be interesting to know though how much business the guy has lost due to me not ever buying anything again and not recommending customers to them for products we didn't/don't make that he did/does, ever since. Its a household name in the speaker grill world too and there just isn't that many guys making them. You just never know.

In your case if you could get decent video I'd think that would be something to take to the cops. But PVHCA's advice would be pretty easy to employ and probably very effective if the businesses are supporting you and know what is happening.

I was thinking if it was me, that it was happening too this guy would be getting a lot of calls for rides. From people that didn't need rides.. Burn up about 4 hours of his time and he'll get the point.

Richard has a great service! He shuttled us all around last weekend and even had a car delivered back up to us at no additional charge after we left it at Fox's.

A++ service that we use everytime we are there.

Not to mention it's a nice boat ride home at 2am ;)

Thanks....just so everyone knows that doesn't already know, it's actually Richard and Kim. We are equal owners and she deserves just as much credit for the satisfied customers.

Without her, the car wouldn't have been delivered. Without her, the logo and graphics wouldn't look as cool as they do. Without Kim, quite a few things wouldn't be the way they are. I refer to River Express as We or Us just for that reason. We both work our butts off to make this business succeed. There is NO way I could do this without her. THANKS KIM.

How many people can you fit on the water taxi? I was thinking it might to cool to do a group pickup to the Sandbar Resort party.

But we knew what you meant. We enjoyed providing a safe ride. By the way, We couldn't find anything that looked like a vollyball net where you asked us to leave the car. We left it in the safest place we could find at 4am. Hope you guys didn't have walk too far to get it.

Large groups (12 to 15) are better left for the street taxi. Until we finish our big coast guard inspection stability test this winter, we are limited to 6 passengers at a time.

To answer more directly...how many can fit? 16ish....how many are we rated for and will carry on each load? 6 passengers until we get a higher rating when the Coast Guard can schedule our inspection.

We stayed there for a couple weeks since we are members. Limits on stay length nixed anything long term. Pick up location has nothing to do with launch.
