Because they're shitty, installed by even shittier people typically, and cause more problems than they're worth.
The removal of "professional" work done by Car Toys. The ignition switch harness insulation on multiple conductors had been stripped, the alarm wiring twisted around them, and covered with 10' of jap wrap on each joint.

It took hours to pull out the crap, cut the harness wiring, and use Ancor adhesive heat shrink butt splice connectors to repair the damage.

This would be a good deterrent.

pretty much all new cars today are just a fob that stays in your pocket. Most alarms have their own fob. Who the hell wants to carry around two.
I haven't had an alarm in any of my vehicles for at least the last 10 years. I do miss the one I had in my old truck though when you hit the lock button it would roll up all the windows at the same time. That was a cool feature.

Perfect example of why you should seek out a reputable shop. Ugh.

I installed a full keyless system on a 71 Bronco that did just that. Locked the doors and rolled up the windows, when you walked away from it.

It also unlocked the vehicle, right when you walked up to it, and it has a push button Start button, same as every new car does.

To be honest, I wasn't really a fan, but the customer brought it to me, and the customer is always right. Right?

If a thief wants your shit, he is gonna get it. It's what they do for a living. 🤬

But why make their job easier by GIVING them the low hanging fruit?

They are looking for stock systems, that they can acquire easily. Those are the number one targets on their list.

Fuck em. 🖕🖕🖕

I’ve got AirTags in all my vehicles.

Me too.. And the cars have their own alarm systems with tracking on top of that. If fact I have AirTags in everything now. My problem is I forget where I put them then the battery dies. lol I have four more coming today.

In my sons ride we did a very conspicuous kill switch, semi hidden but not really that just killed the ignition, (easy to spot with a little work Almost a decoy), Then a much more elaborate one wired into the fuel injector circuit, it would crank but not fire. Defiantly more work than a thief is going to spend to find, Then add the tracking device.

It was a much older car than most are dealing with but worked well, he had one failed attempt, and short of just towing it away no one was driving off, And the tracker will alert if it gets towed.

Granted this thing was apart way more than any normal person would do :p

On some of my other rides I've used a similar strategy, On newer stuff I rely on the tracker alone., Stand alone from Onstar.

Sorry they nabbed your truck, Good info one the reprogramming BS though

Do they exist?

Are you willing to pay?

Or were you looking for the cheapest place you could find?

What's it worth to you to Not have to deal with living nightmare?

The problem with Viper is they don't post their instructions online. Nor do they include them in the box. You have to be a authorized dealer to have access.

And let's say your willing to pony up for a full on tracking system...

Who's gonna install that for you?

You? Or one of Their certified shops?

Maybe that same shop, is an authorized Viper distributor as well?

Stop being a Negative Nelly and do you own homework, in the area you live in.

That should take you much less effort, than going through what all the different inmates that have had their shit stolen over the years, would take.

☹️

I remember the first few years or so when I moved to Havasu (05) leaving the keys in my vehicles with the windows down (or cracked) while going into stores. This was before the murder rate and tweeker population spiked in that town.
My buddy lives up in Nor Cal between Whitmore and Palo Cedro, he always leaves his keys in the ignition and has multiple rifles in his truck at all times.
It's almost unbelievable how much theft there is in the LA area, I bet a thief could make a lot of money just teaching people what to/not to do when it comes to their property and vehicles 😏

WHY you don't have an aftermarket alarm on your vehicle? Especially your truck?

It should be painfully obvious by now, that factory alarms are worthless. The thieves clearly know how to get around the coded key deal, so Why are you not going above and beyond what the factory offers?

Or at minimum a tracking device? Not that a tracker will do much good, cause your truck will be stripped clean by the time they find it.

I have a Viper on my truck and the module is buried under dash.

WHY are you not protecting YOUR stuff??

🤷‍♂️

Keep your shit behind a gate, with a couple dogs. If you leave it out front long enough, someone is going to mess with it.

shoooot all you high tech people...

When I park my truck I just crawl under and clamp the fuel line with a pair of rusty old vicegrips. In the IE we call that "immobilized"

I can even do a little "chirp chirp" when i'm done

Bwahahahaha!!! I really did LOL at that!!! 🤣🤣🤣

I don't have a garage at my house. Have blue prints drawn to ad 1.

The truck stolen won't fit in my other garage. Height issue.
My comment was more tongue in cheek. I remember living in California with a small two car garage that I had the boat parked crossways in.🤣

Lots of lame excuses.

Going through what we have been watching inmates go through, over and over on here, just makes no sense me.

Find a good shop and get a quality unit installed. That's a much easier headache to deal with.

✌️
Nice aggressive talk there Joe. LOL

I hope Karma doesn't steal your truck.

Like we've discussed in Nic's thread if they want it bad enough....
They will point a gun at your head and demand the keys. You know what...you will hand them the keys.
Those that carry concealed may be able to shoot back as they drive away but I will not die or go to prison for any purchased item.

There is no easy way around this. A boat was stolen from the Rio several years back. They placed hooks under the roll up door and ripped the entire roll up door...off.

I like my old shit...nobody wants anything I own.

Karma always wins. 👍🏼

It just makes me So sad to read about people having their shit stolen, when 99 percent of the time, it was easily preventable!

Thieves go after the low hanging fruit first.

An Unmodified stock truck, almost always what we read about on here. ☹️

I had the alarm on. There was no key. And I had 4 cameras on it. In my driveway. Certainly didn't think it was the low hanging fruit. I thought that was my van 2 over from it.

Just got off the phone with insurance. They sure due try to make you answer the questions wrong by switching the dates. Like a word smith switching my answers around and re asking them.

I had no reason to commit fraud on my Paid off low mileage truck that worked perfectly for my needs. There was nothing I would change on it and had no desire for a new 1.

If I wanted a new one I would of bought 1. Was actually trying to buy another work truck. Work is crazy busy for me and I am not in financial pressure.

They will not cover anything inside the truck. Only dealer installed accessories would they document. Which I did have dealer installed amp steps, emblems and a few other things.

You had an aftermarket alarm installed???

How did they disarm that too???

😱

When we were in Washington a couple summers ago, we were walking along the Columbia River, through a public park.

I watched a young teenage girl, pull up to the public restroom, leave her car running, and go in to do her business.

Yep. We were definitely not in SoCal Anymore!!! 🤣
.. A guy in the next block up from me went out and started his truck either in the street or in his driveway… he ran back in the house to get something… And someone drove away with his truck🤷🏽‍♀️

No surprise really.

I've thought about doing that many a time, but my paranoia gets the best of me.

Such a bummer. ☹️

this is why I added one of those quick-disco key ring deals. I leave the key in the truck running, and lock the door with the fob and walk away.

Mine has a remote start feature...

It can be sitting, running, unlocked. But if you don't disarm it with the remote, as soon as you step on the brake pedal to put it in gear, it shuts off.

I've done made that mistake enough times, that I don't even use it anymore! 🤣😜
