Done it. Poor man’s flywheel service…don’t recommend. 57 Willy’s pickup with a 327 mated to the old Jeep truck transmission. Wasn’t perfect but better than it was.

Why not just take that grinder and cut some grooves in the flywheel then you really have some chatter

I’ve done it to brake rotors at the track to get rid of pad imprints….works well.

Edit: I've also done it on a lathe when the objective is to recondition the surface WITHOUT changing the relationship between the mounting face and the friction surfaces....using a handheld tool, you can chuck the rotor up as crooked as you want and the handheld tool will follow what's there, while actually using the machine to cut it will re-establish that relationship, which I don't want in many cases as there's nothing wrong with it in the first place, just a surface defect that needs to be addressed.
