Was laying in bed last night trying to fall asleep and got to thinking, I leave the fm radio on in my shop 24-7 all year long, only because I’m too lazy to turn it off. Do they last forever? Would it last longer if I turn it off when not listening?🤔

I’ve had a Bose alarm clock since they came out. The thing will not die and sound is still good, it’s been dropped, multiple power surges and just keeps going. New shit is built to fail. When it does fail I will dig a hole in the backyard and bury it.

We have a Pioneer receiver in our lab that has been on 24x6 since the 90's. It's in the same break room as a Kenmore refrigerator from 1985. Maybe the power is good in that room.

Is it a Bose Wave Radio ?
I've got two, one older, one newer. Since I've got a fairly extensive 1600 song hand picked music collection both burned to CD's and stored in my computer and on flash drives, we awake to CD music daily. FM radio sucks up here, so not a good option.
Eventually, no amount of laser cleaning discs could repair the older Bose, so I retired it to my shop and replaced it with a newer model Bose Wave.
I purchased an inexpensive flash drive player for the older Bose and use it in "AUX" mode and play the music off of a flash drive.
I don't think they're making the Wave radios any longer, old school tech getting the boot. 😟

Many electronics actually like staying powered up more than being cycled, this is because the capacitors have a limited number of charge/discharge cycles.

That’s the one I have. Yep you’re right, old tech is getting the boot. Told my daughter she’s getting it when I leave this place and I will be watching. lol

Shhhh. Just replaced our 44 year old Kenmore refrigerator last week.
Those suckers last. When I first moved out on my own I bought one. I had it at my apartment, first condo and first house. When I got a new counter depth Electrolux fridge I gave the Kenmore away, worst thing I could have done. That Electrolux was the biggest pile of crap I have ever owned, didn’t make it a year before ice maker took a dump at minimum 3 times.

I bought a Kenmore fridge used 30yrs ago for $40 to make into a garage Kegerator. It was probably 10 yrs old when I bought it, that things still kicking ass summers and winters, makes a tray of ice in less than two hours. I'll be sad when it goes......

Not to hijack, but what does a counter depth fridge mean? Isn’t that what a normal fridge is?

If it dies don't throw it away, look for parts, I bet you can still get parts for those old fridges.

They are shallow fridges so they don't stick past the cabinets. Less space inside but looks cooler when closed.

While I don't know if it's still working today, my 1960 Chevy trucks original am radio (Delco?) worked when I bought it back in 1988, Vacuum tube type.
Still was working when I sold it in 1998ish.
Could pull in an Oklahoma City county music station in Hesperia, CA, at night, crystal clear.
My current trucks pioneer stereo won't do that.
