Was two towns over and they have lower taxes on cigarettes. $13.75 per pack VS my area's $15. Gas in my town is $1.60 per liter. The town I was in today doesn't have the stupid carbon and transit tax we have. Gas was $1.45 per liter. Filled up and bought a carton.
Am I reading this correct, I'm averaging here- $14.00 for 1 pack of cigarettes'?? that's over $400.00 a month (based on a pack a day) I don't smoke, never did so I'm not well versed in this area but $400.00 a month, DAMN- That's a truck payment.

This thread started with the high cost of food- then it migrated to gas, smokes and everything else we need and use- cost for everything seems to be out of control.
I'm curious, and here is where my ignorance comes in- What's the cost of illegal drugs these days? Cocaine, Heroine (sp?), Meth, Angel Dust/PCP and god knows what ever else is out there. I recall "coke" was $100.00 a gram back in the late 70's , not that I really know or care but if the cost of drugs are climbing like everything else, crime will get even worse - so lets review that other tread- "Do you Carry"? you may not have a choice if things get any worse. I see moms and elderly getting shanked in the grocery parking lot for their bag of food.

Average here is $14 per pack. My area the city has extra taxes and they are $15 per pack. So a pack per day is basically a truck payment.

You guys tip when you go pickup take out and if you do, how much?

When things started to close down and we did take out at out favorite resturants we tipped 50%. Now that we are just about out of the 2 weeks to flatten the curve not any more. Every man for themselves at this point. Thank goodness I am getting to be an old fat f**k my intake is down and if needed I can eat off the fat of the land. LOL

So last night was our Anniversary. 32 years! We went to a cutesy restaurant for seafood and steaks. Cowboy Star in down town San Diego. Happy hour still on so a couple drinks was only $17.00

Had the mussels for an appetizer and their freshly made rolls. Good stuff.

For the entree my wife wanted to try a Bison Steak. She had buffalo burgers in the past but never a large cut like that. I ordered the $56 T bone.
Mashed potatoes and green beans rounded out the plates. Pototoes were ok. Green beans pretty bland and a bit too firm. The T-bone had zero seasoning. So bland. My wife had ordered a chimichurri sauce that I added, but geez, what a disappointment for a $249 dinner. Included two glasses of wine and the tip though.

Why do I bother ordering steaks at restaurants? I am disappointed just about every time. We had tried last month up in Jackson Hole and was also not what I was hoping for. I think I should go back to the kitchen and introduce the chef to salt, pepper and garlic. It ain't hard.

I will say the service was exceptional. I'll just order seafood next time! Lesson learned....again.

I don't tip fast food. Even though most have a tip option on the credit card reader. Think its just part of the reader and not really for tips. For sushi take out, I tip 20%. The girl who takes the order, she also packages it.

I don't trust that the tip option on the credit card reader actually gets it to the employee. If it does, it seems that it would be divided up with the whole lot of employees and not the one who actually gave me service. Legit restaurants are different, but I still try to give cash tips, so they can avoid taxes. Because taxation is theft ;)

This is easily disabled by the card processor with a quick phone call.

Places leave this on in hopes to pressure the customer tip. Its bullshit.

With that being said, I tip at some fast food if its deserved. I try to tip whenever someone goes out of their way to help me. Including Target when they bring out your stuff curbside, I tried to tip and the employee said its against their rules to accept. That kinda bummed me out.

Why do I bother ordering steaks at restaurants?
When I go out, I usually order things that I don't cook at home. I am a pretty decent cook and am usually disappointed by the cost/taste/quality/quantity when I compare it to what I could do at home. Feeling like I am being taken advantage can ruin a decent meal for me. Tank hit on it earlier when he said that he only goes out for sushi.

When I am traveling for work and go out to eat with others, they often comment on how good a restaurant is while I am sitting there thinking the place is shit. I think a lot of people have a super low bar when it comes to food because they have no idea how to cook anything. I was traveling for work a while ago and we had rented a house. Rather than going out I said that I was going to BBQ for around 15 people. I think I did a pretty average job and almost everyone was completely blown away by the way it turned out. It still gets occasionally brought up and it was 10 years ago! It made me realize how bad most of the food people regularly consume is.

Most restaurants cater to the people like my coworkers from above. Keeping the top 15% of eaters happy is just not profitable.

Fast food hasn't given me a reason to tip. The sushi tip on take out is the girl packages all the orders. With covid, most of the orders are take out. So I tip 20% because they are handling a lot of orders.

I cook a fair amount (eat a fair amount more). Having kids and a flexible schedule means I cook, and have learned a bit. Grab recipes, modify them for the diet concerns in the house, use what I learned to make other stuff.
As my and my wife's cooking has become better, eating out started to taste like crap. They didn't get worse, we got better. That, and now I know what's in the meal.

We alway tip out in cash because when we leave tip on receipt they never rerun the card so we don’t think they get the tip , it just shows the meal price not the tip added ?

I only tip if the girl has big tits! 🤣

I tip in cash and on the credit card receipt where it says tip, I write "tip on table".

We stopped for burgers at a burger stand last weekend in Bridgeport, CA. Two cheeseburgers, one small order of fries, a water for me and beer for the girlfriend. Came to $23 and change! The place is a tourist trap so always pricey but seems like it has gone up about at least $5 over the last year. The Shell gas station there had regular at almost $5/gallon though so everything is expensive there.

The thing is, most of us saw this coming. Everything is going to keep going up and quality of service goes down. It's what the left want.

That's what I hated about eating out in the states. The rerun the card happened a few times too many. In Canada, the wait staff bring a reader to the table and you pay with that. The card never leaves your hand. Only had one mistake doing it this way. $30 bill and the waiter entered it as $300. I tipped 20% and didn't notice the amount. Paid the bill. Put receipt in my pocket. Didn't notice until a few days later when paying the credit card. The restaurant was cool refunding my money and gave me a free dinner for my trouble.

I have been working in Dallas and decided to make a trip to Walmart to stock up on groceries. The price of meat is insane, $19.00 a pound for porterhouse. I bought two only because I will be reimbursed. I do have to say, that was some of the best meat I have ever eaten.

Monday is Canadian Thanksgiving. Decided to do prime rib, don't feel like turkey. Bought two prime ribs, 5 bones, potatoes, loaf of bread and mayo. Bill came out to $166. Not bad, but still pricey for what I got. Although considering beef prices, the two prime ribs good deals.

For the cooks in here. Try the prime rib seasoning they currently have at Costco. Great on prime rib. But I have been putting it on my steaks when they are almost done cooking.

On smokes my cousins ex wife is supposed to be hooking me up with Indian cigarettes. Indians don't pay taxes here. Un-taxed smokes are $5 per pack.

Our Go To places in LHC are Boathouse Grill, Tavern 95 and Juicy’s. Each of them are very solid, you know what you’re going to get. Not gourmet, but good. Tip? Usually about 20-30% for good service. Don’t believe I’ve ever met a rich waiter or waitress. During the deepest & darkest days of the pandemic I wish we could have tipped the cashiers at our grocery stores. I definitely considered them “front line workers”. Nobody really knew WTF was going on. But, there they were, every day, attending to every customer. If they weren’t there, then what? I’ve never tipped for fast food. Don’t eat much fast food. Hard to call them servers. They hand you bag, period. $62 a pound for frozen king crab legs? Love it, but not at that price. Live lobster at Bashas’ is still $19 a pound. The empty shelves, of some items, is almost more bothersome than the increase in prices. Neither are good.

This. When we go out I get something that I usually don't cook at home. Same with the steak. I can cook one at home better and cheaper. Just went out for sushi last night with my brother down in Naples. Place is so good, but the prices are pretty high. I drove down from Sarasota, so he paid.

More restaurants are doing that in the US now. I like it as I have left behind my credit card so many times in the black check holder thing.

That’s a shame. I love that place, wagyu tortellini was sublime. Haven’t been lately though.

I can’t help but think about this…a pack of cigarettes = 20 right? So 2 packs x 20 = 40

If you sleep (don’t smoke) 8 hours a day that leaves 16 hours a day for smoking. 40 / 16 hours = 2.5 smokes per hour or 1 cigarette every 24 minutes all day long everyday

Lot of money and shit in your lungs and you’re doing it to yourself. Shame

We should deny them health care for their self inflicted afflictions.

That is a pretty slippery slope.

What about the fat people that sit around all day eating junk food and watching tv?

What about the person that chooses to jump something in their rzr?

What about the person that goes over a certain speed in their bote?

What about the person that drinks all day every day?

I don't do any of the above, but if you deny health care based on peoples action then there won't be very many who have health care. Who would get to decide which actions are deemed to risky to have health care?

Smoking is a personal choice as well as how people spend their money. They understand the risk.

If that were to be attempted here in this West Texas town, it is doubtful the scumbags would even make it out to the street. If they didn't get tackled by the Varsity Box Boys, or shot by the Pistol Packing Gpas n Gmas, the GP would.

There should be no slope. A difference in premiums, yes. Smokers got a bad image from the media which I believe is total bullshit. Never had a problem with smokers and never experienced someone smoking to much and causing trouble unlike people that drink alcohol.

No LTC in Texas. God Bless Samuel Colt. Handy little caliber, 25ACP.
Phoenix Arms...

Just had breakfast with the working Boyz at the little Hole in the Wall Cafe.
There were quite a few canes, including mine, But I wouldn't F with any of these Old Guys. I suspect there may have been more Piztols than canes in the house.

Here they cover the healthcare out of the taxes they collect on cigarettes. I'm going to quit soon and go back to the e-cig. Hopefully that will extend my good health.

Please, try to take it Step By Step if necessary, but for me it was put them down and do Not Look Back. I found every day, I had better breathing, more energy and overall felt so much better.

P.S. and your Clothes, House and Car do Not Stink.
