Here is my .02

Leave Cali it’s a shithole. Way more nicer places in the country!!!
Gotta live where the money is. My company moved my money to Texas, so that's where I went. If my money were still in Ca, that's where I would be. I like to eat. Am I happier in Texas? Well, short of being far removed from family, yes.

Personally I would take Oak Hills over Newport all day, even if money wasn't an issue.....that being said, OP asked about upper desert locations nobody is comparing Oak Hills to NB, they are comparing Oak Hills to other high desert areas...
Exactly, no one place it perfect for anyone. But there are people that enjoy it in the high desert and california. I don't agree with 90% of the politics in CA but honestly most of it doesn't reach me here in the HD. Like I said in my response, every place is what you make it, in my area is clean and has been nothing but safe for over a decade, family and friends are amazing and we make the most of it. And honestly for me and how I live my life, I would live in Oakhills or AV over Newport beach any day, that kinda of life is not for me.

Lived in Acton for 10 years and absolutely loved the place, moved for work unfortunately. Zero stop lights in town, can use golf cart, side x side whatever to roll around and never really get bothered. Laid back people that want to be away from the hustle and bustle but close enough you can get to pretty much anything. All four seasons with minimal snow. Mainly police, fire, and movie folks. Only crappy deal was its LA County.
My brother lives in Acton right now. Very cool place. Probably the biggest draw back is being at least 20 minutes to any major store and Palmdale is typically the closest. He and my nephew ride out of their garage pretty frequently.

The 4th of July water fight.... er.... I guess its a parade. lol! Is AWESOME! my kids and I had SOO much fun!

I think we are going to be out there on November 1st for the HS's last home game of the year. My nephew is a senior on the team.

I’ve been in Alabama a week. I’m going to need CA money to live here. Other states aren’t as cheap as everyone in CA thinks.
Is it nice? My wife seems to like Fairhope based solely on tiktok and crazy zillow ads.

I lived in the Hesperia area approx. 15 years ago when I got divorced because that's pretty much the only area I could afford to rent a house at the time. (I hate apartment life) Anyway, after a year the area really grew on me. I ended up getting married a few years later and moved to OC where my current wife lived. I really didn't want to leave but her business is located in OC, otherwise I'd probably still live up there especially if I didn't have to drive down the Cajon pass every day for work. It was bad then; I can't imagine how much traffic there is today. I don't know where you're moving from so, I can't say if that's a good move or not. However, like others were saying Oak Hills is a good place to be up there. Although if you have kids, I'd plan on putting them in private schools over the Newsome Indoctrination Centers here in California! Good Luck and Happy Moving. :p

My Buddy was looking to move there. His original plan was Tennessee. He got priced out there. The houses he was looking at went from 600k to 1.2. Alabama had some nice spreads in the 600k range.

Agreed. I don't have first hand knowledge of the public school here other then me going forever ago and nephews/nieces. My daughter started school during covid and no way i was putting in that so went with a christian school and its been great. Sucks paying for it but my daughter is far ahead of the curve and her class size is super small and the other kids are good kids.

It’s what you want out of life. I love Norco. I travel the west coast of the country quite often for work. I like Norco more than West Jordan Utah. I don’t really care for Washington the dry or wet side. Won’t do Arizona, don’t like Colorado, I do Portland next week. Then tangent DuPont Burlington. I still like living in Norco, but I don’t leave Norco much I still need to check out Wyoming, montana, and Alaska. That will be next year
You will be excited to leave Portland!

We like Enterprise . Dothan was way to busy.

Beaches in Destin Florida shit on every SoCal beach.

Going to Hit Huntsville and Muscle Shoals before end of year hopefully.

We were very close to buying a house sight unseen about 2 months ago. It was in Muscle Shoals. My new job offers retirement was weak so blew my plan to shit.

$200 a sq ft includes the land. I can't even build my own house here for $200 a sq ft. House looks great.

2 acres is a nice size. Not to crazy to maintain.

I am stuck here for the foreseeable future. Starting over with my business is not in my game plan. Things are finally getting where I want them after 18 years.
