Thinking about heading up to calico for a short weekend before it gets too hot. Maybe get in a little jeepin and explore the town again. Haven't been in years, has the place been overrun by sxs or still some good jeep trails?

I might be up for joining you for a day on the trails....haven't been up there since my maiden voyage in a bone stock '86 toyota truck before I started building it back in about 2006

That would be cool will have the fam so only mild wheeling as the wife doesn't like the off camber stuff. We took our rubi out there in 06 with the paper plates on it🤡
My first truck was an 85 yota with a straight axle, fun trucks for sure

IIRC, we went up odyssa canyon and came back down Duran canyon, bypassed the gatekeeper....there were was a guy in a XJ with a rear axle hanging out the side of it clogging the thing up. lol.

wouldn't mind doing those 2 again, they're pretty mild...if I was able to make it back then on 31" tires, stock suspension and open diffs. The tacoma has a couple "easy buttons" (A-trac, e-locker, etc..) that takes some fun out of it, but work surprisingly well.

IMO it’s one thing for those with experience in off road who went to sxs then a can of shit from those with lack of experience and common sense who disrespect the deserts who got into off roading due to sxs.

Did you book a spot in the campground? We are probably down to go out Friday afternoon and come home sunday, I can show you the trails and take you to a few cool spots. As far as being overrun by sxs, not an issue.

Yes I booked A15. You guys go out often? Haven't been back on the trails in 8 or 9 years. I'm sure much has changed. We could set up a Saturday run or something if anyone else wanted to run, let me know.

Sounds good, I'll grab a spot in the O section. If you can change yours to the same, I would. Or I can grab two spots and you can cancel your reservation.

I grabbed O50 and O52 for Friday Saturday night. I will head out Friday afternoon and see if I can convince the person in 51 to trade one of us.

Cool let me know what we owe you. I'll see if I can cancel mine in the morning.

Nothing owed, just buy me a beer at the saloon Saturday afternoon. You can cancel your reservation through the website, super easy.

We’d love to go. Been wheeling there for years and camping for decades.

But we are taking a trip to east Texas those dates. Plan another and we’re likely to go.

Back in the day, we would go up Mule Canyon and look at the mines, go out in the middle of the desert look at rocks (even take a few home)
Directions: Stay on Ghost Town Road- head east, just past the Calico entrance, I think its the first canyon on the left (north)
4x4 needed, no "rock crawling" just ruts, sand etc.
