Let me guess, it is a 21’ foot boat with a Volvo Penta drive?

If yes, it is just a common 21’ hull that Shockwave, warlock, Ultra, Renegade, Caliber 1 and others used over the years.

That was an entry level spec boat that Caliber 1 built for a few years.

I don’t know the history on the silencer. I think that was also a shared hull, but not sure. What year is it?

Most of those boat molds needed license plates on them. They moved from Cliff to Stolarz and others in Anaheim on a regular basis. Never sure who was spraying and laying up boats from day to day.

Not sure if I can have the dmv at least change the builder name on the reg so it says caliber or not

2000 is about the time Cliff was getting out of Caliber. Maybe sooner. I know when we were looking for a 25’ boat in 97’ he was still wearing a ankle bracelet. 😆

I don't know much about who was laying them up at different times, but I don't remember that hull using different names, so I'd be pretty sure it's a Caliber 1. That's a good and fast hull.

DMV should be able to fix it, the boat I bought recently had the pink slips all messed up....the boat title was registered as a Competitive with a CF number that didn't match the boat...and the trailer title was registered as a Lavey Craft with a license number that didnt match the trailer....it was kind of a PIA to get corrected but luckily I told the owner the deal couldn't be completed until it was fixed and he did most the work...

Cliff didn’t leave Caliber 1 until 2004. The 23 Silencer Hull was also laid up by Cliff for Renegade.

I owned a caliber 1 silencer hull that was rigged and built by Renegade. Performed well for a 23'.

i believe caliber 1 licensed them out to a few builders?

Doubtful. It goes by the HIN. Are you talking about this Hull? If so it was built by Warlock and probably 6 or 7 other builders. Renegade, Ultra, Shockwave, Eagle Pacific, Lightning, To name a few.

Ha Ha..I knew Cliff when he was doing upholstery in Anaheim next to Greg Shoemaker. He did 2 of my boats and we bought a 21' Skier from him. I remember him laughing about not be able to go on vacation with his buddies due to the "bracelet". :p

EDIT...BTW..That's NOT the first time I brought it up. lol

When I made this post I was thinking of the 23 Velocity, my mistake.

My "spidey senses" went on full alert in Calibers shop when I shopped around for a new boat in the early 2000s. I had zero influence from others nor was I privy(or really cared) about builders reputations, it was just my intuition at work.
Lol, I also hated the fact a builder would call a boat a 23'er just because it had a 2' swim step as part of the deck.😄🤣😄
Fact of the matter was both me & Jan left there and scratched them off our list.

Its an 18" swim step. Realize that Eliminator also included the swim step in the advertised length of their 22 and 23 Eagles, as did Ultra and Shockwave (in their 22 SC). The only builder I'm aware of who didn't was Lavey Craft.

You can put any steering wheel center cap on the boat you want. It doesn’t make it a Caliber 1. The HIN tells the story.

What do you care if it’s registered as a Warlock, Omega or Caliber 1? All three are about the same from those years.

I'm aware now but way back when it just bugged me.
The Eliminator store blew us off so they'd already been scrapped off our list. I think they judged the book by the cover(aka=prequalified) since we weren't in our sunday best. 100% turned me off because this was my biggest pet-peave with my salespeople at my dealership.

Around 2000 Caliber 1 HINs began with the letters EKR. The USCG hull identification site lists EKR as, Caliber 1 Custom Boats, Corona CA, just as it was in those years. In 2000 Cliff was still involved, but by then there was also a money guy. I knew Cliff Loetz. Didn't know him well, but I liked him. He was certainly a factor in the boom years of So Cal custom boat building. He once told me he entered into building boats working for Bob Leach, installing carpet, back when Eliminator was in Huntington Park CA. That was a few years ago. I believed him. But, he also once told my wife, he had a bad knee because a sniper had got him up at Refugio Beach. That I didn't believe. Lol. Have no idea where he is now. But, I wish him well.
