There's a Sushi place in Agoura that had a second store up by us and was by far some of the best sushi I've ever had. I've never been to their Agoura location but it is their original spot.

Hanami Sushi

26527 Agoura Rd #116, Calabasas, CA 91302

But you're also right next to Westlake - Mastros, Farfalla Trattoria, Lure, Finneys, etc.

Thank you for the suggestion so far but no seafood please. Basically anything else. Greek, Italian, Mexican, Steakhouse, etc.
Looking around Westlake, Agoura, Calabasas and Malibu.
Thanks again.

Monty's in woodland hills for old school steak house.

Old place in Cornell, it feels like a bar in Alaska, steaks.

Basta in Agoura Hills, Italian / Steaks

I ate at The Old Place for the first time this past Friday. My wife and I met a friend there and we got lucky. They had three seats at the bar. Food was great and the decor in there is so cool. I've been there a lot, just never eaten there and if you want to eat at the restaurants, reservations are two-three weeks out.

I have a client in his 90's who would bartend there back in the 60's and Ronald Reagan would come by and he would serve him beers lol.

Actually last time Wood Ranch was good and not too terribly overpriced . Their “ pint “ of beer is now 14 oz , same pint price though. , sneaky . Their dinner rolls dipped in BBQ sauce are fantastic !

Fogo de Chao on Topanga is a pretty good Brazillian steakhouse. It's a few minutes from Calabasas and there are several top restaurants very close by.

I wouldn't feed my dog food from Sagebrush.

As said earlier you can't go wrong with Kings, Monty's or for a unique experience The Old Place.

Another great option is Joey's on Topanga. Great food, bar and it's a happening place. Reservations are a must.

Got a lot of stories out of Sagebrush. none of them are about food. Lol.
I was there the day it opened. My buddy Monty was the first bouncer at the Cantina. Back then, the beef ribs were killer!!!!!! Later on, we would regularly go to the Sunday brunch. It was great. At that time we lived on Old Topanga Cyn. Rd. to it was close.

Bobby's for Breakfast :) ... Lovi's in Calabasas or Brents Deli in Westlake for BK or Lunch ... I frequent Finney's in Westlake quite a bit and it's very good. Nonna in Westlake is a great dinner spot, great food, fast friendly service and surprisingly it's not overpriced. For sure, Plata is one of my go to's for Mex...

Lots of talk about Sagebrush, that was the place years ago when they had sawdust on the floor. Sundays on the bikes were great there. Shameless plug, my Eagles band "Dark Desert Highway" is playing there Sunday Aug 31st, make your calendars.

The Old Place, also, used to be great... Seems like every time I go there the inside is closed and that's a deal breaker for me. So instead you have to stand in a line on the side of the building and order food. Then stand in another line to get a good coffee drink then you can grab a table adjacent to the restaurant. It's overpriced too... Kills the vibe for me.

Not to totally sidetrack the discussion, but does anyone remember Pelicans Retreat back in the day? It was on the other side of the freeway PKWY Calabases where the BMW dealership is now, it used to be an awesome bar! We used to go there on Thursday nights to watch the Boogie Nights (this was like 30 years ago) and then head over to Sagebrush. Good times back then....
About 15 years ago, there were a ton of cool bars/nightclubs around that area. There was no need to go anywhere else because all of these bars were within a few miles of each other. Here are a few I remember. I know there was a couple more I missed- cant remember the names.
  • Sagebrush
  • Pelicans
  • Blue
  • P6
  • Chapter 8
  • Ciscos
  • Canyon Club
  • Bamboom
Now there is nowhere to go...

Just going to say, Wood Ranch BBQ is mid if your really into smoked meats, for all the great tri-tip places in the area, that's the last thing on the menu there that I would get. If you want some spendy but mostly health rotisserie chicken the Calf Chicken Cafe is pretty good last time I was in town.

I remember pelican retreat. Cool pace. I remember when Ciscos burned down. You forgot the red onion and what was the place called in the center where Trader Joe’s is now on TO BLVD. that place used to go OFF!!! Also in the wizzins strip mall there was a club down from canyon club called like The red room or some shit. Place was cool. The bar attached to the Westlake village in was / is always fun. Used to call
It the wrinkle room. Lol

We still see boogie nights every once in a while when they play at the canyon. Still fun. We used to go see them so much we had them play our wedding in 05. lol.

The place in Westlake where TJ's is now was called the Yucatan, and before that, it was called Sergios!
The Red Onion is where Chuck E Cheese is now across from Dave and Busters- After the Red Onion it was a place call Stargazer.
The Bar upstairs at El Torrito on Moorpark Rd. and the OG Bandits was were we always started.

Same Joey's as Manhattan Beach location?
If so the blackened chicken or the Ribeye!
Definitely need reservations.

If you want Greek, Taverna Tonys in Malibu is on point. Food and atmosphere.

If you want a great Hispanic food, Habana in Malibu. Fish tacos, etc.

Ate lunch at Tarverna Tony's and the food was great. We had both the filet and chicken kabobs plates.

Going to head up to the Old Place not to eat but to check it out and have some drinks at the bar.

Have not decided where to go for dinner yet, but thinking Nonna.

Great choices. If you can get into the bar at the Old Place, that would be awesome. They open at 4pm and there's a guy with a clipboard in the front. Go up to him and tell him you want to sit at the bar. I think you have to order dinner to sit at the bar. Otherwise, you can get a drink at the side car outside. There's also a wine place right next door.
