Im not a Snow Bird but my truck came with cab lights from the factory so swapped them out with Smoke colored ones back in the day and I love having the soft shell. Keeps stuff from blowing away and out of the weather.

Look into a soft topper. I put one on my truck and its durable and its pretty easy to remove if you don't want it. Doesn't look as nice as a fiberglass shell, but it keeps your stuff dry and semi secure. Also they are under $1,000 last time I checked.
I was actually looking into these air toppers

I guess I am really “old school”. They also try to talk me out of putting the rubber boot between shell and cab. Says it wear off the paint of cab. Who cares……it is never coming off. But with it, it can get a/c flow into shell for dogs. Just crack side windows of shell a tad. Doesn’t get cold, but definitely cools it down on the long drives
