This is interesting one.
A week ago my daughter and my SIL were trying to get a permit to go back packing and they were all sold out. I told her " do you really want to be out in the forest with all these fires burning everywhere and the max amount of people out camping ?"

Does not sound like a good thing !

Now the Feds step in and close it down.

They are now joining us in Havasu for the weekend.

I see, CA commies bad, but when AZ closes theirs in June due to the same fire concerns, no problemo ?
A few of our area ranch roads run across AZ Trust land, had to get special permission just to maintain them.

We had issues then as well, since we like cooler weather as well.

According to the press release by USDA Forest service, regarding CA's National Forests -- re-opening slated for 9-17-21 at 11:59 PM. That of course could change.

Yeh especially if fire danger remains high. Or more fires break out.

Ah shit. I called Mount San Jacinto State Park, Idylwild, she said my reservations for Friday were still good. Guess I'll call Thursday night..

San Jacinto is closed. State park in national forest. Had plans to go hike until noon, wife called and ranger station stated closed. Developed campgrounds are open, no fire or open grills allowed.

I called at 10 am, ranger stated that they would remain open as they are developed campground. This is the c g right next to the fire station in Idy.
I'll call again before I leave. We have a trip planned on the 17th up near Onyx Summit. Looks like that one may be a bust also. But it is after the recall.

So let me get this straight. Even if a National Forest or State Park is NOT on fire they are closing it? WTF - we need to start voting these idiots out of office who come up with these rules! This is the peoples land after all.

Curious. What is the fine for hiking when closed?

Fire crews and equipment are screeched so thin that closing everything down is a logical way to prevent the possibility of another fire and taxing them even further...

I can’t believe that people say closing the forest in California right now is political. Nothing political about it. We had a terrible winter no snow pack. The forest right now is a tinderbox dry as a bone. The Condor fire is now over 200,000 acres.15,000 firefighters are on this fire right now. It is just south of me. The Dixie fire is over 800,000 acres. The biggest fire the state of California has ever had. Just north of me. I don’t like that they shut the forest down but it is for safety reasons. They just do not have to manpower to put another fire out. Also you do not want a vacation up here right now the smoke is terrible.

so
those who are sick, but show no symptoms due to vaccine - travel all you want, no risk
those unvaccinated - you are at risk, so stay at home, since you can get Covid

well, logic has gone bye bye! Spending the weekend at the beach and playing some beach volleyball

This affirms the idea that I have no desire to go ANYWHERE right now while the vaccinated super spreaders are spreading this shit like literal wildfire. What ever happened to just relaxing at home on a long weekend?

We did a quick hike down to Switzers Falls last weekend via the Gabrielino Trail, and it was toasty! There was a little bit of water in the streambed, but not enough to get all excited.

Glad we made the quick trip before it got closed down.

Just returned from the Eastern Sierras today, strange seeing all the camp sites empty at Rock Creek. Not one boat was on lake Crawley this morning. Fishing was only good in the backcountry. Most lakes are low along with the streams. One of the tackle shops told me they will loose thousands this weekend alone. This is a picture of South Lake.

Texted with my buddy today, only state parks in National Forests are impacted throughout the state.
State decided not to close all state parks, only select closures up north. Public pushback on potential closure was large (phone / email) volume was insane is what I got texted.
