Hi all. I shipped in new batteries for the boat and have the old ones sitting around. I also have some sitting here from car projects. Is there anyway to recoup the core charges on these batteries or do I just drop them off at the haz mat trash place and be done with them. I have 4 of them sitting here so I thought I might as well ask. TIA!

I did the same thing this year, ordered new batteries for the boat, found that Lowes had them the cheapest.

They charged me for cores, but wouldnt take my old ones? So I just dropped them off at a hazmat event put on by the city. It would have been nice to get the core charge back, guess thats what I get for trying to save $10, I end up getting hosed on $40

No sure where you live. The power shop on mission & central in Montclair pays $10-$20 a batter.

The scrappers pay something for them. They hit me up but Napa pays 18.00 a core so its better than the 10.00 they offer.

Auto zone will give a store credit for used batteries.

The AutoZone battery recycling program is one will gladly take your used vehicle batteries off your hands and dispose of them properly.

Then, it’ll give you a $10 AutoZone gift card to use toward the purchase of another battery or anything else in the store you want.

You can use the store locator on its website to find a location near you. Call ahead to make sure it participates in the recycling program.

Not sure what other places will give you
I tried the recycling center to be a good guy
After they took my truck plate, driver license, photo, thumb print and for 50 cents lol
I just drop them in the walmart cart by the battery section and call it a day

They will charge for a core but won't take the old ones? That's fucked up

It was a shit show, it was super early covid times. It took them 1hr to FIND the batteries at will call.

By that time I just took the kids word for it and just wanted to gtfo

O’Reilly’s gives you $15 gift card for full size battery . But you have to use it to buy their overpriced auto parts …

I sell all my lead acid batteries to Battery Power in San Fernando.

Motorcycle, Airplane, Car... any battery with lead in it.

When I was doing commercial building maintenance the old emergency light batteries would pay for quite a few lunches.

I have sold cores to O'Reilly's just recently and there limit is 5 and it's $10 each and thats in a gift card like stated above. They have super expensive shitty batteries.
Powertron in Santa Ana will give $10 cash for each one. I buy batteries form them also.

In Texas, each purchase of a new battery includes an $18 core charge, which is refunded when the old battery is brought in. You must have a receipt which shows the new battery purchase to get the refund, and it's only good at the selling store.

Otherwise, recycling centers pay a buck or two on old batteries.

Take the batteries to AutoZone, they'll give you $10 bucks a battery.
