How reliable and how many miles should one expect of out the 3.8 L Wrangler (years 2007 - 2011)? This is the motor before the 3.6 L pentastar.

Anything specifically to look out for on a used early JK Wrangler? Thanks!

Those minivan motors were notorious for oil consumption. Lots of them got replaced thru warranty because of it.

Kind of hit and miss, some lasted, some didnt. My old JKU got the 3.8 replaced with a Hemi cause it was dying with less that 40k mi.

I would probably look at the 2012 and newer if your thinking long term with the jeep. They are a little more dinero.

I have a 2012 with the 3.6 auto and runs good, has a whopping 31,000 miles. Not interested in selling.

As said above, the 3.8 motor is a relative POS. IF you can, look for a 2012 ^ for the 3.6L. Even there, the 12's had some head problems so check the recall list. I have a13 JKUR and it does very well

Just bought a 14 JKU with 60k miles. Damn resale is crazy on them but wasnt going to lease a brand new one with a lower payment, that would just be stupid. :)

2012 and first half of 2103 ( vin specific) have a known possible issue with heads. I skirted it on my 2012 but my buddy got a new crate motor out of it.

Be sure to investigate the VIN to see if it falls into the time frame and negotiate price from there. Not all fixes worked so if it has had the warranty repair it’s not a given it’s fixed for good.
