There was a giant hippie bus, like a VW on steroids, that was a mutant car. It came to a car show here. I thought it was funny, a hippie tribute, built on an Oshkosh 4x4 fire truck chassis. A stellar 3mpg.

We flew into Reno and wondered why so many freaks were on the plane and at the airport, we figured it out when we saw the shuttle service. If Burning man was up and running when I was in my twenties I would of checked it out, not at my age now, seems like a young person’s scene.

I have been a couple times. It is pretty awesome.

This year I had an opportunity for a free ticket, free parking, staff entrance and a $500 payment. I would have worked the airport. I couldn't commit to the 12 day stint they require. You have to work at least 30 hours. Five 6 hour shifts. Plus be there for orientation and stay til the very end.

My neighbor is there. He is semi retired so he can do it. His girlfriend went.

So far they have had wine drinking afternoons with Danica Patrick, chatted with Paris Hilton, greeted Christie Brinkley, and met P. Diddy. The airport is a good gig. The porta potties are the cleanest on the playa too.

They have a big RV, but 12 days is a long time. Water is getting scarce.

A lot of cool stuff gets left behind. The small planes can't carry all of the people's gear, so the airport staff gets tons of freebies.

I’ve flown in there in a PC12. No way I’d let a fixed wing owned or leased by us in there. Those turbines don’t like all that dirt and dust especially with just a particle separator.

It’s a cluster fuck out there in the dirt. Not my scene. Makes the dirt and dust at the dunes seem like Colorado clean air. But the STD’s are complimentary.

Reno airport or Gerlach?

At the actual Black Rock City airport on the playa. It is a temporary pop up airport. When the bigger planes come in they make so much dust.

It isn't sand, or dirt. It is silt. It is a dry lake bed. It does tend to get everywhere. It has a particular scent as well. On the way back last time, we ran the generator and I used my shop vac for three hours cleaning everything. There has been a few white out wind storms come through.

The airport has plenty of plane parking, and lots of people fly in and camp next to their planes.

Exodus is awful. Better to leave at 4:00 am. It is like going to the beach on 4th of July. Get there early or wait for hours.

They have a pulsing system they use. One lane goes for 10 minutes then stops. Then the next lane goes, etc.
Staff gets to use the vendor/staff entrance exit.

We flew home into Reno yesterday. Saw quite a few "burners" in the airport. Was not hard to pick them out because of the playa dust on them. Some of them were literally covered head to toe. It would be fukd up to have to sit next to someone on a plane with that much on them. And not to mention they probably have not showered in at least a week.

That’s typical northern NV weather. In the evenings up here when it cools off it is so nice and a fire pit in the backyard is a must.

I got behind a few yesterday going from Reno to Carson City. Literally have clouds of dust behind them. At one point a guy was running about 85mph I’m sure was to try and blow as dust off as he could.

I should have taken a pic of @Tahoe540 neighbors car. It was a Prius I believe and man was it coated. I wouldn’t drive my vehicles on that playa ever. They are never the same after that.

I live 1.5 hours away and it has never been on my list of must do's. If I'm out in the desert getting dirty it better be at the dunes in our sand rail or out in the trails in the SXS.
