Driver of the charger was a friend of James Dean and was driving behind him when Dean crashed. They just spoke aboif it after the movie finished. Guy was stunt driver and part time actor

The mustang needed some modern day Rev matching. No way Steve McQueen missed all those shifts.

Saw this as a Kid at the Fremont theater when it first came out , was so stoked after I got in my 57 Ford hot rod and leaving the parking spot , did a smoky burnout at the stop lite... my foggy back window immediately lit up bright red .... said burnout was right in front of a San Luis LEO :eek: My first "Exibition of speed" citation to say the least

Bill Hickman. Also drove in the French Connection (The Seven-Ups too) epic car chase as well as acted in the film. Hackman's character shoots and kills him by mistake.

I'm so inspired Imma watch the chase scene again today just for adrenalin of seeing the Mustang and Charger hauling ass down thos SF hills

All sound for the car is replaced in post production, producers made it like that
