Driver of the charger was a friend of James Dean and was driving behind him when Dean crashed. They just spoke aboif it after the movie finished. Guy was stunt driver and part time actor

Saw this as a Kid at the Fremont theater when it first came out , was so stoked after I got in my 57 Ford hot rod and leaving the parking spot , did a smoky burnout at the stop lite... my foggy back window immediately lit up bright red .... said burnout was right in front of a San Luis LEO My first "Exibition of speed" citation to say the least

Bill Hickman. Also drove in the French Connection (The Seven-Ups too) epic car chase as well as acted in the film. Hackman's character shoots and kills him by mistake.

10 minutes of no dialogue. That's epic. Now imagine the same chase but with all the snap-crackle and pop shit, bouncing off the rev limiters that today's "hotrods" do.

I saw a documentary about the filming of the chase scene. The soundtrack of the mustang revving and shifting was actually recorded with a ford gt 40.
