I still am confused on a face mask.
Clearly Sherbert was brought down by a horse collar. Same sure as shit he had his fingers grabbing inside the defensive facemask. Not a straight arm.
Oh well.
And what is pass interference these days.
Not face guarding and holding an arm down. lol.
Let’s go broncos.

What happened at the end of the 2nd half was weirdest thing I've seen in football in a long time.

What happened at the end of the 2nd half was weirdest thing I've seen in football in a long time.
That was crazy and I had never heard of such a thing but this is a pretty good explanation of last night:
North American sports have many obscure rules, but probably the most obscure scoring play is the fair catch kick in the NFL. It’s a rule so obscure that only one has been attempted in the last decade and none have been successfully converted since 1976. Some coaches and many players are unaware that the rule even exists!
The rule states that a team may attempt a kick on an untimed down after fair catching a punt. It is similar to a kickoff in that it cannot be reasonably blocked by the opposition, but unlike a kickoff, a tee may not be used which increases the difficulty. If successful, it is worth 3 points like a field goal. If unsuccessful, the other team takes over from the spot of the kick. The latter is a significant penalty, which means they should only be attempted with no time left in a half (usually the first half as the motivation is often not present to attempt one at the end of a game), or at the very least with very few seconds remaining in a half.
Well the stars aligned on Thursday Night Football. I took note when the Broncos were backed up towards their own end zone late in the first half. Then the tension built as I did the math and noticed that a punt with <10s on the clock was likely. And the excitement really started to bubble over as I remembered that Jim Harbaugh is the coach of the Chargers. A fellow dull rules geek, I recalled him attempted a fair catch kick back in 2013 when he was coaching the 49ers.
Sure enough he was all over it, and his punt returner appeared to be on a kamikaze mission to fair catch the ball. What would normally be considered a reckless play was a very sharp play given the circumstance. He failed to catch it but only because the defender interfered with him which is a penalty. At this point, I have to admit, I was unclear as to how the penalty would affect the fair catch kick attempt. But apparently, since he was interfered attempting to fair catch, they were still allowed the attempt, and the penalty only moved them 10 yards closer making the success of the kick much more likely!
After a couple timeouts while the coaches attempted to coach their players up on the unusual play which was about to take place, the Chargers lined up and converted the kick from 57 yards!
I can now die a happy dull man knowing that I have witnessed the first successful fair catch kick in my lifetime.
