Brake Light Switch?

2005 GMC Sierra 2500HD.
Currently have no brake lights. Flipped bulbs in socket and both filaments work.
Could it be the switch? The cruise control deactivate and shift interlock are working,
so I'm stumped. Also, the 15 amp "VEH STOP" fuse on the driver side checks ok.

What do the inmates think it could be?

Thank you.

Thanks! What threw me off was other items connected to the switch are still functioning and the lights are not on continuously.

I will get a switch. Looks like it is held in with a clip on the shaft.

thats my guess. My 2006 1500 did the same thing except my brake lights stayed on and CC didnt work. part was around $20. but changing it was bit of a pain. its up under the dash at the top of the pedal and held by a pin and funky clip. took me about 30 minutes.

Is the third brake light also inoperative? What about the trailer brake lights?

It’s been a while, but I’m pretty sure the 3rd light was also inoperable on mine.

GM likes to make shit boards as well (where bulbs and harness plug into inside tail light housing) I've replaced more than I can remember

Trailer lights worked fine a week ago when I last used it, but the brake and turn signal are old school and it doesn't have a separate turn indicator bulb.

Lost the ground? Pretty sure they share the same ground back there. Get out multi meter and check for ground/power. Report back.

If the trailer wiring was hacked in, look there first. Multiple times I see scotch locks used and the wire ends up breaking...fucking U Haul morons.

Thanks SB, gonna get the meter and investigate. Bought the truck new and no bastarding of the wiring. 103k on the clock and in VGC. Trailer plug is factory and the "camper harness" is still in the bag underneath.
Not a daily driver so no safety hazard as of now.
Will report back once figured out.

Thanks all.

@SBMech:
The video was spot on. Took a small ignition file to the arced contacts and slapped in new bulbs...all good.
What a shitty design.

Thanks again.
