What size box anchor for a 21 howard? the small or large? the small is rated for 18-30 footer but I don't know if I should go one size up to be on the safe side. any thoughts?

Always go bigger so if anyone ever rafts up with you, you have the holding power.

Not sure the size difference between the two, but if it will stow away fine on your Howard, get it.

Not sure where you anchor (Sandbar, Rock Bar, etc.), but sometimes I let folks tie up to me while I am already anchored... having the bigger anchor helps!!

X2....just buy the big one. You can't go wrong for a few extra bucks. If the wind picks up or your tied up with a couple boats, you will be glad you spent the extra $$. Wait for the boat show, they give killer deals on box and sand spikes:thumbsup

If you will be at the L.A Boat show we will be raffling one off, at the W.O.T. Marine Both, spot 606.

Just make sure you have plenty of line....no anchor holds if you're boat is sitting right over the anchor.

go look at them first if you are unsure and have never seen them(and lift them up). i have a 21ft boat and i figured that the bigger is better too. in this instance, fuck that. i went with the small. its perfect and it has held 3 boats at once on the river (2 of them for over 24 hours) in front of sandbar resort on a busy weekend.

If you are using in the river with a current get the large one. I have a medium for my 27 advantage but in the lake there is no current to speak of. Strong wind will move it on occasion though

x100000 you could have the biggest and best anchor in the galaxy, but if you don't know how to use it then its worth nothing

I have the small they called it medium when I bought it for my 22 advantage. Has held fine even at the river in front of Buckshin(parker) and held for 3 days and night both times. I do use a little chain (helps set it a little) and plenty of rope.

Small works great on my 21 Shockwave at Lake Windy; I mean Lake Mohave. Never had it move yet.

Small works great with my 24 you just have to have about 25 feet of line out front never moves!!!! It needs to drag the anchor at an angle!! To short of rope and it will lift up and out and skip on bottom!! I have had two boats on mine at the sand bar in havazoo and it held in the current!
Goodluck!
Oh and at lower rock bar in front of bluewater two sand spikes works best!!!!

How do y'all think this would work on a harder sometimes rock, limestone lakebed? I've been in places where my standard style anchor would not hold my 25' Rage? Thanks.

Thanks everyone for the input! I'm leaning towards the large one. storage shouldn't be a problem with the closed bow. one large box anchor and 2 spikes.... any deals out there?

Get the biggest one you can get! We had a large in the 30 Spectre and it would not bite for shit at the sandbar. We almost took out a couple of boats because it was too shallow to run the motors and the anchor would not bite in the current! :skull
