Technically speaking.
But in my case it was always negotiated and offset in my net compensation package whenever I was W2 or 1099.
I realize that’s usually not the case in workaday jobs, but since being a DD it’s always been a factor and I’ve always paid it myself…one way or another.
Nothing about my job is normal…😂😂🤷🏼‍♂️

These days most DD companies offer either W2 or 1099 options.
The problem is that now they all go through consulting firms to manage the 1099 option. Which costs me money, and creates an entire middleman scenario.
They never used to do that, but it’s cheaper for them now.
Are you saying as a 1099 employee you were paying into UI?

Tell that to the old folks who have taken more then they gave. My grandpa (greatest generation? sure) was on SS for 50 years. Bastard played the system like a fiddle and worked under the table the whole time. Yep he was a democrat.

I have an ex friend who fits exactly the leach profile that the Oracle is crowing about.
He was straight 1099, drew TX unemployment during the Covid exceptions, then pulled an $85K LLC loan as an individual (since been 100% forgiven…told TX fuck off when they came after him for partial reimbursement)
THAT MF was the scam artist deluxe and made me sick.

That why I get so pissed being categorized such as that.
In my case the UI worked exactly as designed. I used it very limited, it paid most of my monthly bills, got me through about 4 months, then I took the first drilling job available.

We won’t even get started on my pos sister.

100%, but who does someone call when an employer gets and obvious fake SS card? I tried reporting someone years ago when I lived in SoCa and was an employer and got nowhere.

We also need to update the SS card. It seems ridiculous to me that we don't have a modern SS card with some security behind it.
I believe we will be able to just duct tape them up and drive them back to the border where we will get a voucher/bounty now. 👍

Well all weapons used when the constitution was written have been used in war and no there was no exceptions of weapons when written.

I don't see the same connection.
I was giving an absurd example of how different groups will read into what "the original intent" of the authors were. Liberals like to make the argument that the 2nd amendment does not apply to modern weapons because those weapons didn't exist at the time of writing. After all, the colonists mostly owned muskets.

To say the 14th wouldn't apply because of the modern issues of illegal immigration and "anchor babies" because the 14th was crafted to give slaves citizenship is the same thing in my mind.

Both amendments are very clear in their meaning and have been interpreted as such for a very long time.

I'm all for doing something about immigration and securing the border (it's one reason I voted for Trump), but you have to work within the existing laws or it will all fall apart and we'll end up right back with the same problems.

Over various construction companies, we have had about a half dozen DOL audits. In all cases about a quarter of all verified employees were not really legal.

No fines, no findings of fault with our policies and procedures, just the system as it works today.

The estimates are that about 25% of all workers in residential construction in the Southwest are not permitted to work. One in four. I get people want to clamp down on that and I have no problem with that. Feel free to ship them all back to wherever they came from, it will certainly free up the parking lot in Home Depot.

Just as long as we don't get any complaints about how expensive housing and remodel costs are, or the lack of housing supply and the associated higher mortgage costs associated with that inflation. Sooner or later, no matter what the agreed upon solution, we all have to accept simple math and accept the economic consequences. 🤷‍♂️

yes other parts of the declaration have morphed but come on, why are we the only country in the world (I believe) that if a foreign person gives birth then their child is a automatic citizen? I am not against immigration but I am against the destruction of our country. When our cities look like third world slums, and you see foreign flags flown and defended vs our flag, screw you, stay out. Be proud or your heritage but don't shit in the hand that is feeding you... and this is what we get with chain migration, pop out a baby and the flow starts. I don't have the answers but I a not claiming to, but I can see what has caused a major issue, schools. hospitals, public services etc...

The industries I’ve worked in make no differential in pay between ethnicity or sex or housing status.
This position pays this wage…take it or leave it.
I’m sure that’s variable, and surely labor costs are affected in most construction trades etc.
But I don’t believe that a 25% shift in workforce from illegal to legal equates to anywhere near a 25% increase in costs. I’d guess less than 5% overall if that.
I mean, in your companies you mention, how would replacing those 25% of illegals equate to higher costs for you once you learned their status?? Were you knowingly paying them less than the position scale?
Now…let’s talk about your labor cost offsets in S Korea vs American labor…think it’s more than the 16 weeks of unemployment I collected?

And this is how the issues get all messed up... policy conversations immediately turn into attacking children. In order to win World War II decisions were made knowing thousands would die, and ultimately with the final bombs, hundreds of thousands died... there are consequences for every decision, the problem we have today is that we won't make a decision and lack of execution is destroying our country. Tell my why the current high school kids average scores are so poor? no one will hold anyone accountable or tell little Johnny or Suzie to do their home work. History holds the answers for all fallen societies and everyone is due to an erosion of the initial principals that they were founded on.

I was a C36 California Plumbing Contractor up until 2008. We paid all employees a standard wage based on the role, we never attempted to hire employees of questionable employment status. We also never made much operating profit in the ten years I was stupid enough to try. My biggest mistake was trying to make the leap into production housing. They ate us for lunch.

IMHO publicly traded developers with questionable moral compasses hell bent on increasing shareholder value drove up housing costs while punching down on subcontractors over the last decades. The regulations and bureaucracy make it difficult for a competitive market and give giant public companies an unfair advantage which allows a monopoly like industry where the big public companies manipulate prices and indirect labor costs.

Our company (I) sat in a room with the owners of the other large plumbing construction companies an openly discussed controlling labor costs, using our gentlemen agreement to fight back against the public companies by sharing our bidding and a host of other questionable activities. While we were honored to be asked to sit at the table, we politely declined membership in the Good Ol Boys club after the second month and shortly after started a slow death march to closing our doors.

Every one of the companies folded during the crash. The public companies squeezed them all equally.

My brother recently took a job at the publicly traded company that fucked us the hardest. I was pissed, he lasted three months because he could not look the subs in the eye and fuck them over. He said it was worse now then it was in the mid 2000s.

A couple bucks in hourly wage is not the problem, that is a mathematical joke. Corporate Greed is the problem.

How will the next administration resolve this “corporate greed” problem?

Do they have a history in their business life prior to politics of paying and treating subcontractors differently than you have described above?

How or why does "the next administration" need to resolve this issue. It is a "bipartisan" issue. Why do you think the dims want open borders? Besides "extra votes" and cheap labor?

It's not the responsibility of the Presidential administration to course correct corporate greed, that is a byproduct of capitalism. It's our job as consumers and citizens to make choices and manage our local community regulations. Hopefully reduce regulations that give one group an unfair advantage.

For my part I'm networking in my new home to hopefully influence. I've already developed a relationship with a planning commissioner and I am working on making friends with a county commissioner.

I don't expect some far off politicians to solve problems for me. I fought developers in SoCa when they tried to use Eminent Domain to take advantage and leverage the political process with fat contributions in trade for fucking over the average citizen with corporate cronyism.

Mindset of Collectivism vs Individualism. I tend to believe in the Cowboy way.
