Theirs a borrowers library in Two Harbors.
Leave a book or two, take a book or two.
Very popular with the visitors and islanders alike.

Wife likes to lay on the front deck cushions of the boat in Catalinas mild weather and read and listen to the surf and birds.

Latest books and her takes:

Life after the OJ trial by Marcia Clark. Though she was a lousy prosecution lawyer, she explains he'd a walked no matter what anyway.
A long read,, but a good one.

Red, My life in Rock - Sammy Haggar. Pretty good read if you're a Sammy fan or not.
Starts out like he's tough on the first wifes depression,, but it all comes out in the end why.

No real surprises, but his relation ship with the Van Haggars is explained in depth, and his side of the story is interesting.
He talks how the Tequila business eventually came about, and several other businesses he got into that have made astronomical amounts of money,,. A good read.

A stolen life Jaycee Dugard. For a child kidnapped and used as a sex slave since she was in the 5th grade, she writes amazingly well, says the wife.
A hell of a story.

I myself put the book down after a chapter, it was so disturbing. The wife finished it.
Rather than put it in the borrowers library, wife passed it off to a island friend.

Last summer I read Artie Lange's book Too Fat To Fish, the guy is insane but super funny there were times I found myself laughing out loud to some of the stories he wrote. I'm a big fan of the Howard Stern Show but even if you aren't it's still a good read and the guy has a pretty fascinating life.

Earlier this summer I read The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown. Its the same main character from The Da Vinci Code/Angels and Demons. If you enjoy his writing style this book is super bichin. The story is based around freemasonry and the book makes you re-think about what you believe. If you are super religious and take the Bible very literally, then it's probably not a book I would recommend lol

Right now I'm reading Gary Dell'Abate's book, They Call Me Baba Booey and so far it's pretty decent.

After that I plan on reading Seven Deadly Sins by Corey Taylor from Slipknot/Stone Sour and I also wanted to check out Sammy Hagars book I've heard good things about it. Didn't he say something about being abducted by aliens? But ya those are on my list, autobiographies have always been a hit for me.

Didn't he say something about being abducted by aliens? But ya those are on my list, autobiographies have always been a hit for me.

I took it as he dreamed he was abducted. After all the decades of dope and booze one is subject to dream about anything.
I think that's been mis-quoted in the media.

Several threads run through the book, especially dealing with his first wifes depression. "She has a screw that just won't tightened down". Perhaps takes like that comes across as kinda tough to some readers like my wife. Eventually his takes all add up in the end, and perhaps he was more tough on himself trying to deal with, understand and get a grip on it.

Most women eventually go crazy after 40 is my take.

The Van Halens resented his money making abilities, and this caused them to loose out on some astronomical money in the long run.
"The brothers were used to ya do a concert,, ya got paid right away. Ya cut an album,, ya started getting checks right away. Investing takes years to get returns,, the Van Halens were always flat assed broke and too impatient to wait for returns. They wanted their money now or their investment back,, and back right fucking now."
(loosely quoted)

I read constantly, sometimes to my detriment. I am a big Sammy fan and bought RED and loved it. Have bought 2 copies for friends. TPC, read Flirting With Mermaids by John Kretschmer. Stories of a Yacht Delivery captain. Man and Machine, Stephen Wilkinson is really good. Stuntman! by Hal Needham is really good too. Thanks for the posts, TPC.

true story.

Massacre at Wickenburg: Arizona's Greatest Mystery

At approximately 8:00 a.m. on the morning of November 5th, 1871, a stagecoach carrying seven passengers and driver was ambushed eight miles west of Wickenburg while en- route to Culling’s Well, Ehrenburg and San Bernardino. This event, which led to the death of seven people, quickly became the center of national attention.

So far this summer I have read a few books. "Life" Keith Richards memoir. this was a good light read, kinda like running into Richards and having him tell you the story of himself and the ins and outs of the business of the Rolling Stones. He covers it all point blank no holds barred, a real eye opener to see how heroin had a such a hold on him for a number of years but has been free of H for over 30 years. Also read 'Atlas Shrugged" by Ayn Rand, Absolutey great book that is so spot on and relevent to what is going on in our country its been a best seller for over 40 years. In a nut shell its about government getting to big and creating policy that condemns thinking and promotes the redistabution of wealth from the people that are capable of producing there own to those unable. All the intellegent leaders and inovators go on strike and the country falls to shit. Should be a required text for every American IMO. On the lighter side I also read James Michners "The Drifters" Just a great read about a group of traveling youths and there trials and tribulations. This book will take you places and is hard to put down. Next on the list is "I Hope They Serve Beer In Hell" by Tucker max, heard good things, heres a few quotes.

"Ladies, let me give you some advice. You can throw all your stupid fucking chick-lit, self-help, why-doesn?t-he-love-me books out, because this is all you need to know: Men will treat you the way you let them. There is no such thing as ?deserving? respect; you get what you demand from people. Let a guy fuck you in the ass, come on your back, drink all your beer and then leave, and he?ll do it. But if you demand respect, he will either respect you or he won?t associate with you. It really is that simple.? ~ Tucker Max"
? Tucker Max

"She is trying to convince me that she never does this and is not that type of girl. It was difficult for me to understand. Her enunciation wasn?t very good with my dick in her mouth."
? Tucker Max (I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell)

Trailer for a documentry on Atlas Shrugged

A few months back I picked up The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin by Max Farrand, its a restoration of a "Fair Copy". I got most of the way through it in a couple hours, but then something happened. It seems I'm an old guy or something, because after a couple hours reading I looked away to the digital clock across the room to see what time it was,I couldn't read it.My eyes were screwed for about an hour after, wouldn't focus on anything far away,it freaked me out. I have always had great eye sight and still do,as long as I dont read books for any length of time.:grumble:

Getting old sucks:cry:

I read John Adams and Benjamin Franklin last year. Interesting how much we didn't learn in school.

This year I found a new (to me) author, Tim Dorsey. He writes some gut busting and disturbing semi mystery stories about a serial Killer who's a nice guy. All set in Florida. I just got a couple books by Dan Jenkins also, except without the death and it's either about golf of football...

Been reading a couple of series:

Any Vince Flynn book with the Mitch Rapp character.

Any Lee Child book with the Jack Reacher character. One of these books just got picked up to be a movie, unfortunately Tom Cruise is going to be the lead. The book character is a 6'4 ex MP who is pretty badass. I wonder how tall Tom's heels are going to have to be to pull this one off. There is a new book out in September.

Just finished Mob Rules by Louis Ferrante. Ex mafia guy that tells you how to apply mafia tactics to your business for success. :D I usually only read business biographies, never business instruction. This one was pretty damn funny actually.

Also reading SeaRace by John Crouse again here an there. Tons of incredible offshore boat racing history and very cool anticdotes about the characters.

So I take it "bust his kneecaps" and "concrete shoes" are keys to success? :skull

Just got done with "Flyboys"... It is a true story about the Japanese and the culture leading up to the second World War. Absolutely disturbing. Horrifying. Whatever I thought I knew about the events leading up to it were turned on it's ear.

Ross... you need to read it if you haven't. It re-tells the story of some American Aviators who inevitably got shot down over an island near Iwo called Chichi Jima. It was never invaded, but they thought it would be next. One of the aviators, one picked up by a sub before capture, was George HW Bush.

A couple facts from the book. More people were killed by Samurai sword in WWII than Atomic Bombs. What went on in China was absolutely terrible...

Read the book.

I love light reading to clear the head and murder/mystery novels do it best.

Michael Connelly's Harry Bosch series, John Sandford's Lucas Davenport and Virgil Flowers, Randy Wayne White's Doc Ford all have great stories and excellent regional background information to relate to.

Greg Iles is another fantastic story teller whose novels mix in some very deep character interpretations than won't allow you to put his books down.....

The late great TV writer Stephen J. Cannell also wrote a bunch of great mystery novels.

Wes, thanks for the heads up on the preWWII Japanese lead up...sounds fascinating.
