My wife and I are booking a vacation to Cabo San Lucas in late July for a family function and are looking to book airfare at a reasonable price. My wife has an Alaskan Airlines credit credit card that she uses for her business and has never used the accumulated airline miles (31K+ points) they don't seem to be applying to her attempts to use them. I also have an Alaska airlines mileage account, but it's been 5 years since I've used it to fly.

Any advise on finding the best price on airfare?

Keep following up on Alaskan air miles for both of you.
I’m sure it get frustrating but maybe it’s time to be that person. You know the asshole on the phone until you get what you deserve.

We’ve only flown Alaskan down there many times ( from Burbank)
Never had miles to use but also never had any issues and usually a decent round trip price.

The cost of flight is likely more than available miles to apply towards your flight. 31k isn’t that many miles.

Miles can only be applied as long as they don’t exceed the trip itself in most cases.

For instance… most airlines won’t pro-rate the cost. If the flight with all passengers exceeds the available miles it won’t let you use them.

If you fly out of Tijuana you can fly Volaris. It's super easy. Park on the US side. Use the CBX and you don't have to wait in that 2 hour customs line to get into Mexico when you get there. :)

We are heading out in June. Will fly either delta or Alaska out of lax. Either of those flights are cheaper than southwest out of OC.

31k miles is close to zero miles. You can only book through Alaska direct, and on left it wi have a box for “use miles” and then another for “miles only” or some other shit. Regardless, 31k is going to cover a one way for one person. The companion fare is probably the better deal.

For comparison, it takes 60k(ish) miles for a round trip (granted on good days) for PDX to PHX and back. I fly my wife every few weeks on this Thurs/Sun which are the “expensive” days, but Cabo is a premium.

Alaska card only works if you can expense the flights and use the advantages. If you don’t fly often, cash back cards are far superior.

Last time I went I think it took 50K miles just to upgrade 2 to first class on Alaska?
But to the op, just buy the damned plane tickets. You’ll have a lot more questions once you’re actually there…

^ this right here, my wife and I are going to Cabo at the end of April, the cheapest (decent) flights out of any of the local US airports would have cost us around $1200 for 2 round trip tickets...we got direct flights out of TJ on AeroMexico, all in with Flights, CBX pass, etc we paid $685 and change...you can get there even cheaper if you fly Volaris but thats like flying on Spirt or Frontier Airlines

We flew out of Vegas last month to Cabo $700.00 for 2 round trip non stop, Cabo customs took 3 minutes, flight was great, had a suv waiting for us was one of the easiest trips we have ever taken, I was going to book another trip for later this year but seems like Alaska does not have a non stop now don't know why, some family live in SD and flew out of TJ, said it was a super easy and great experience and only paid 150 bucks for 2 round trip to Cabo.

No idea where OP is based but assume he's a Pac NW guy if using Alaska as his go to. When I lived in OC I always jumped on Southwest to hit Cabo. Easy Peasy and at the pool bar by 3pm.

We are flying out tomorrow morning, been 20+ years since I've been in Mexico. We are staying for 5 days, beside hanging out at the pool and the beach, what would you recommend doing in Cabo? Last time I was in Mexico I was super busy, went to Ex Carate, Chitchen Itza ruins, snorkeling, rented a boat, rented a submarine etc. That was 24 years ago so not in to thrill seeking as much but would like to do something fun while we are there!

UTV rentals. Fishing, they will provide everything. Pool time, restaurants, walking and shopping, drinking.
There is a zip line over a canyon but have not done that. We much prefer San Jose del Cabo and favorite restaurant is Flora Farms there.

I'm headed in on a cruise Saturday, sounds like I should be at the Mango Deck.

It gets pretty rowdy in a good way. You have to see it at least once.

I prefer Los Cabos but typical Cabo can be a good time with a lot of laughs.

We don't have time for Los Cabos, and really we're just getting off the boat to party, no excursions or anything planned.

You’ll have a blast. Definitely try and hit Mango and The Office. You’ll laugh a bunch with all the shenanigans.

Drug dealers and police work with each other. Dealer sells you drugs then tells police that are waiting around the corner. They interrogate you and take all your cash. Don't feed into it just for the sake of doing it. Just ignore them and walk away. Someone in our group thought it was funny to ask for something very tasteless and disgusting to the street guys. They were going to follow through.
The mariachi guys you can mess with a little. Had some come up to the table and did their song then asked for request. I said Slayer. They started playing Seasons in the Abyss.

Tasteless and disgusting?

The office has a great atmosphere, food is just ok and you will pay for it. A few months back the whole fried snapper was $75 around 1600 pesos. 😳

We love downtown San Jose and Los Barriles on the east cape, especially if you like the old town feel. You would need a car rental to do ease cape tho. I usually race down the peninsula and adventure my way back in the chase truck. It's different having a car there. There's also Todos Santos to explore about an hour up the Pacific side.
