I have a 06 magic deck with its orginal trailer. Im planning on getting a new trailer built here in the new future. Trying to build somthing in my head before i go and talk to trailer manufactures. For those that have had new trailers built what are some must haves? Somthing I shouldnt skip out on? Things to stay away from. Thanks.

When I had mine built for the Formula I included EOH brakes and twin spare tires. In hindsight even though I can climb a spare to get to the bow I really wish I had a ladder built to aid in launching and retrieving.

I picked up my new Extreme Trailer last week. They did an outstanding job again for me!

I tried to keep it simple... a triple axle, a boarding ladder with rails, break / swing tongue, spare tire rack, LED lights, ratchet straps on back. I also dropped off some Method Wheels for them to put on. Some peeps like the power jack too, I didn't go that route tho.

I stayed away from the stainless fenders this time (they are hard to get still anyway).

I use the ladder at the bow of my trailer all the time, as well as the storage box. Electric over hydraulic brakes and very nice also.

Man, get ready for some sticker shock. I’m pricing out new aluminum trailers. Nothing under 30k for a 38’ boat.

With that said. Disc brakes, all LED lighting, bow ladder, storage box, EOH are the minimum requirements I’d say. 😉👍

My neighbor priced out just about everyone for his 42 fountain and cheapest he found was kokopelli trailers in Az, I think he was at $18k but dont quote me on that. He had a great deal on the trailer for my nordic too, im happy with the trailer so far. Only problem is its so light it floats, but you wont have that problem with your size.

I wanna say they were 12k new?

Curious of the cost at extreme.
Think it said $13. Looks like there’s 2 of them sitting out there. Couldn’t hurt to throw an offer out.

I reached out to him.. The one he posted he stated is for a ultra shadow deck? Really keeping all my options open. Ideal would to build a one and done trailer that can last another 20 years.

@ChrisV built a trailer that came out pretty damn awesome. He can probably chime in on some ideas here.
I had my extreme trailer built with the new boat. Shockwave doesn't get too involved with the trailer build aspect so I was kind of disappointed with how that part of my build went.
The boarding ladder is a must have. A solid ladder at that. Straps attached to the trailer are nice, no more throwing the straps in the bed of the truck. I would have liked the oversized steps at the fenders, but that wasn't offered when I asked about trailer options... Tripple axle with 2 braking axles for sure on the Magic deck.

Runway lights.

In addition to some of the other posts above. Ladder, LED lights, etc.

all good ideas. I would 100% add front boarding ladder. Might be worth checking out Pacific trailer in Chino.

Thanks man!

If you go out at night add runway lights. Especially a center one on the ladder. It’s not submerged in the water so you see the center point. Helped a ton for me.

As for options, does it stay in havasu? What truck are you pulling with? Don’t need to throw money away if it’s only a mile away from the ramp. Three brakes, torsion etc.

I forgot to mention the "oversized steps" in my previous post, however I don't really think I will ever be stepping on them. I had the plates on the steps powder coated black ;)

I should’ve clarified, my search is for a c channel or box aluminum trailer. Not an I beam like kokapela build. I’ve had my share of ibeam trailers and while I do like their price point and they tow “fine” there’s a night and day difference in towing compared to a cradle style trailer. And loading with my ibeams gave me fuckin anxiety everytime!!! Such a paint in the ass. They don’t right themselves when you load and can and will load cock eyed like every time. Huge pain in the ass!!

One thing I have seen VERY few people do is add back-up lights on the trailer. Nothing worse than backing up a trailer and having to rely on the brake lights to light something up. Also if someone is helping you back the trailer in somewhere, it helps light them up so you can see their signals as well.

I have 2 small back up lights in the license plate bracket, not terribly bright but helpful.
Normally I just have someone on a phone behind as we put it in storage. No lights/power in our storage‘s

I am replacing all the lights and wiring on my trailer now. I bought these to replace the standard oval brake/running lights. So far they are pretty damn bright just connected to a battery. We'll see how well they work once installed and wired.

Keep in mind how high you want the trailer to sit, I put drop shackles in my bass boat trailer because I like the low to the ground look and wanted to be able to launch in shallow water and not have the tires of the truck wet, down side is that I drag my crossmembers all the damn time

Gator Step all your step surfaces. So much nicer to have traction than those slick metal plates that get even worse when wet. If the GS wears out, just replace the pieces that need it.

Make sure they don’t cheap out on the torsion axles (make sure they are rated to the load carrying capacity you need).

Also get good trailer tires, so pick a wheel size that is the most common for trailer tires so your never somewhere that doesn’t carry something for the unicorn wheels that look cool but dont fit standard sizes.

Galvanise + powder coat to avoid rusting.

Make sure the bunks are constructed appropriately (good wood, carpet, drain holes and stainless through bolting hardware).

Make sure wiring isn’t done with scotch locks. Full 7 pin wiring to lights. Get reverse lights as mentioned. Full set of clearance marker lights. Runway lights are awesome if you can do it, use like a bilge float switch to activate them (mounted at the rear of the trailer).

EOH is a plus, especially if you have a Brake controller standard in the vehicle.

Disc brakes specifically for marine use (Dexter).

Get the larger 2-5/8 ball coupler.

Get provisions to carry two full spares, plus spindles/hubs.

The jury is still out on Vault hubs or traditional bearing buddy style. Pick what works for you.

I put these on the FUndeck trailer and they were great.
First time in the water they filled with water. Sent a message to seller and they sent me another set but I have not installed them yet. I am just running with the leaky ones as they dry out after a week or so. LOL

I parked my new Extreme next to a nice Evo this weekend. It was nicely equipped! 👍

This is an excellent idea and one I wish I'd thought of in advance. I back into an unlit barn with other boats on either side. Tough to see late in the day.

Have a kill switch so thru don’t blind the driver. I think red work good at night.

If i was to build a new trailer it’d have:
7” tubing, swing away front tongue, large side steps, 15” slimline leds along sides steps and rear, 17-20” wheels and tires, wide fenders, front step with hand rails, Eva foam on all step surfaces as well run way lighting.

Triple torsion axles
Disc brakes on 2 axles
The Andy Myer Specials... I built mine about the same time.

I think you might be comparing it to a pontoon trailer. The high rails on my trailer are only guides, the bottom not sitting on those. I think you will find cat trailer only needs two big flat boards to sit on.

When we bought our new Bennington, my buddy that owns Sun Country said it'll never fit through an 8' door... My reply, "hold my beer". Special thanks to @Sawtooth for loosing the arches in the door opening. Triple torsion, electric over hydraulic, disc's on 2 axles, powdercoated, Seadek everywhere.

So i narrowed it down to Adrenaline and Extreme that will build my trailer. Any reason to choose one over the other? Has anyone had issues with one of these builders. Leaning towards Extreme due to they are local and easy to get parts if needed. But I like Adrenaline's service that I've had in the past.

Extreme might build nice trailers but in my opinion their support sucks now. They don’t really want to deal with end users, they just want to build trailers for the boat manufacturers.

I tried to get help, parts, an appointment to bring an existing trailer by and they basically told me to call another trailer shop and have them do it.

I don’t think you’ll have that problem with Adrenaline.

Why don’t you call Shadow as well? Talk to Fritz, he might be able to get your build in. They are down in Cypress which is sort of local.

You might think about oil bath hubs . My trailer is 19 years old and after topping off and sealing fill holes , haven’t touched them. Never had bearing buddies that dependable .

If your at that point, and have quotes, see if either one will throw in a matching spare tire and dual spare tire mounting point, swinging tongue, extra decals, and a subscription to hot boat magazine. 😁

when we built our last shockwave i wanted to make changes to the trailer. My #1 iss ue was getting in and out of the boat for my parents so i had them lessen the angle of the ladder so it was flatter and easier for them to get in and out.....if i had to do it again id lessen it waaaaay more. so keep that in mind for your 20 year trailer for when you are older

Agree steps are important and I think i want two handrails, one on each side of the steps.

You will not go wrong with either.

I have had a few Extreme trailers and always been completely satisfied (if not I would not have gone back). I have not had needs for service from extreme and once my trailers have gotten to AZ, it would be extremely rare to ever go back to CA for anything anyway.

Shadow built a awesome trailer for my jet skis several years ago, built in Cypress and again once in AZ, its never gone back to CA. PS, Shadow has a shop in Havasu too that is great for service needs.

I have always liked Adrenaline's work and go to them for service and parts. They make things easy.

As for making the final decision, as mentioned above previously by someone... put the two quotes next to each other, compare standard options vs upgraded options(?) Ask what makes them different, materials used, maybe how its wired or even the light housings.

Again, I would be more than comfortable doing business with both of your choices!
