If you were selling a boat, would you include anchors, life jackets, etc. in the sale as an added benefit?

Or would you just sell the boat by itself and keep everything else? Possibly sell it on your own?

Would it make a difference on making your purchase if it came with all the equipment or no?

What would be some of your "must-haves" when purchasing a pre-owned boat?

I've always thought you sell the boat. The stuff you put in the boat is yours. Would you sell your ice chests that fit under your seat with the boat?

I would include an anchor, that is kind of necessity. I would also include a quart of drive fluid for topping off.

I also keep a folder of all the maintenance receipts and literature for any accessories to give to the new owner.

Life jackets are more of a personal item so I would keep them and sell if not needed.

If you are getting out of the boating game, why not just get rid of it all in one shot. If you are going to purchase another boat, why get rid of all the boating items you have amassed over the years?

This... If I was getting out of boating I would include everything. As a buyer, I would love to have a fully "stocked" boat.

If I am buying another boat soon, I would just include the basics, 4-5 life vests, cheap anchor etc.

for me I'd have to consider the value of the "extras". when people are buying something used they shop the value of what's being purchased. an 05 "whatever" is still an 05 "whatever" not sure I'd wanna just give away a 150 dollar anchor or 5 69 dollar vests. I'd give away a 20 dollar Danforth and a 30 dollar 4 Pak of orange vests though.

however.... if I was going to buy something new or new to me in the future I'd want new stuff that matched my new tub so keeping the old stuff might be pointless

Keep all the crap that will meet the standards of the new baller boat and leave the rest for the "including" list.

You have a boat. Jk. Sell it all if it makes the difference of selling it or not. Why blow a deal over $150. - $200 dollars of equipment. When you purchase a new boat it will most likely come with the same stuff. IMO. GLWTS

When my Sanger goes up for sale it will come with the spare prop, impeller, anchor + line, 4 dock lines + fenders and the 6 orange life jackets. Also all the extra hardware I collected for the tower and 1 basic ski rope. Ready to put it in the water and have fun.

All the good jackets and ropes will be kept for the next boat.

When selling your boat include everything if it sounds like it could be a deal breaker if not keep all the goodies...

Honestly, when I bought my toon used, I didn't care what came with it. I wanted the boat, and that's all that mattered to me.

If I was getting out of boating, I'd let it all go with it.

If I was upgrading, I'd keep everything.

My new boat came with everything (fenders, box and spike anchor, life jackets, throwable, etc.), and I have everything on the old boat as well.

I took the best stuff from my old and new boat for myself, and put the remainder in the boat I am selling (except the spike anchor, it is nice to have 2 of those.). The boat I'm selling has 6 vests, a throwable, 4 fenders, some rope, a box anchor, fire extinguisher, and a whistle. I figure that is a cheap "feature" and will hopefully help close the deal when my old boat sells.

I just bought an expensive new boat. It came with a trailer and near empty fuel tanks.[emoji1] [emoji23]
.
As far as selling, intend to keep your shit unless the buyer is need and the negotiated price is satisfactory to you.

When I sold the bayliner everything went. Fenders anchors ropes. When I bought the cobra those were sold separately

I am not leaving boating ... just taking a break for a few years ... hence the purpose of the thread. The boat will be listed hopefully within the next couple of weeks. There are a few things that need to be taken care prior to listing it.

We are more interested in traveling to other places at this point in time. So, instead of say 10 trips to the river, we'll do about 3 trips and the other 7 will be spent going to other places.

New (to us) boat won't be for about 4-5 years once my wife goes back to work.

In 4 or 5 years you'll want nice new stuff anyhow so just sell it as a package deal. Won't have to store it anywhere either.
.
Been many a wife that said they'd return to work when the kids are in school. Many do not so that's is why I laughed. :)

GLWS

We were boatless from 2005-2010. We had some great vacations during that time.
When you don't have that maintenance, fuel costs, lodging, etc you can afford some really good vacations!

bought and sold quite a bit of boats and i was always under the impression that when you sell or buy a boat that it supposed to have your basic safety equipment a board at the time of purchase? iv managed to hang on to my expensive jackets,ropes,anchors...ect but iv always sent a boat down the road in a ready to use stage

I wonder what the protocol at OCM was regarding items left in a boat that they were going to sell?
I would imagine Tim would steal everything out of the boat and give it all to Ruby who would then sell it online at Craigslist or KIJIJI and this extra money was used to finance their Lifestyle.
They would both tell the Owner of the boat the items were stolen and they would have to claim this through Insurance, or the items were "in the mail" along with the cheque for the boat.
Two POS that hopefully fall off the face of the earth................

Yeah, I had to deal with stuff in my old boat being "stolen" at an old storage place in Parker. I happened to show up the next day and everything was still in my boat. Fuckers were getting ready to rob me. Fuck them.

If your boat will appeal to new boaters, then including everything needed to go boating will be a great selling point.

If your boat appeals to a veteran boater, then they likely have all the shit they need.

I wouldn't. I would use it for negotiating power when they offer less you can throw it in on the deal to get your price.

I think a lot can also depend on the buyer. If the person is cool, doesn't beat the shit out of you and low ball, grind the hell out of you etc, that can make a difference.

When I sold the Magic, the guy was and is cool as hell. I like the guy and we remain friends now. Paid asking price. I had extra dock lines, i gave him some and kept some. I had 4 fenders, i kept 2 and gave him 2, etc. sand spike, box anchors, etc. i had way too much shit! He didn't ask, i threw it in because it was a easy transaction.

I would keep the real good stuff for the new boat and put all the crap in boat for sale. That way you still have the good stuff, and the crap is gone.

My boat came with everything. I wasn't expecting it, so that was a nice surprise. It worked out great because I didn't have shit. I think it was a relatively easy transaction.

Yeah same, I got 3 generations of ski gear that I fleeced from the old man when he sold his boat but it's all starting to deteriorate. But I reckon its from him pissing in his wet suit every time he jumped in the water.....
Make me a offer [emoji12]

OP if it's all newish I'd sell it separate.
