Any words or opinions on boat dock courtesy???

Some idiots take up shit ton space, others don’t move up , and some just need to get out of the water.

Launch early and stay up late to avod! Guessing there’s a another large increase in number of boaters this year. A ton of them just won’t know and there’s others that just won’t care.

Whether we are loading or unloading, my wife & I make it a point to be on & off the ramp ASAFP. No dicking around putting stuff in the boat, putting the plug in, putting on sunscreen, any of that shit. Don't matter if we are in the truck or the motorhome, same same. Gone in a minute or two at most. Some people I just have to shake my head at. If someone is having trouble I can have some sympathy for that, but just fucking around taking their sweet time like they are the only ones there, uh no.

Most people are pretty quick at the ramp but there is the guy that wants everyone to look at him. He hangs around the dock and gets in everyone’s way. Then he pulls up and down 5 times to make sure the boat is sitting right. I see it all the time working the ramp.

Turn the stereo off, get rid of alcohol and put down the phone.
Nothing more dumb than yelling orders to crew who can't hear em over stereo.
Nothing more irritating than hearing drunk bitch screaming, dancing & waving beer in hand w/LEO's watching.
Nothing more infuriating than watching buddy on phone, one handedly try to catch/hook up boat and have wake bounce bow & scratch your gel.
Been there, done that. Don't be me.

That takes all the fun out of Site Six.

Instead of just laughing at people, help them while your laughing :D

Always happy to help. Offered many times but some people are too prideful and stubborn to accept help in their inebriated state at days end, or in the morning when they push their untrained wives to do it while they scream at them.

After the 5 or 6th time they get the boat perpendicular to the waterline half way down the ramp - Ill offer.

Over the years I had a few take me up and thank me profusely after we got it done in minutes.

I always try to tell myself to calm down before I hit the ramp. Because I know I'm going to see stupidity and it's going to get in my way.
It always cracks me up when I see somebody backing down to the water and then they stop. Get up in the boat and start it up run it rub it a couple times then get out and shut it off and then back it in the water. A friend of mine used to do that and I finally asked him why. He said he wanted to make sure it ran before you put it in the water. I said you drove all the way to the lake and you don't know if your boat runs?

Well the courtesy dock is for quick docking.. On /off. Grab the trailer ..back it in and get off the dock . was in parker at rock house and fishing boats were all posted at the courtesy docks just chilling in no rush to get off the docks. We had to thread the needle between them to get the boat on the trailer. Fucking idiots had no clue what they were doing

I see a big difference between newbies and plain idiots.
Newbies are nervous and don’t want to be a problem. They are the ones who need assistance.
Idiots are just plain idiots...there isn’t a lot one can do except ignore them and try to give them distance.

It’s a hassle launching and retrieving by myself, which is what I have to do.

I click my bow rope to the trailer. Float the boat, tie up the boat near the end of whatever dock I’m at as far out of the way as I can get it.Then go park the truck.

To retrieve, i tie up at the end of the dock, get the truck and back the trailer in, then drive the boat on, then pull out to the parking lot to wipe down and secure.
It’s a few minutes each way, but my boat is easy to trailer being a little 19’ jet.

Common sense isn't common anymore. Start the boat before you get to the ramp, make sure all your stuff is in the boat, and do the best you can. I've never launched my boat by myself ( although I'm sure I will) but I've always been sympathetic to those who do as I'm sure it's stressful.

First time I drove it on the trailer was stressful.
I just idle it on, kill the motor and run up the bow real fast and jump onto the tongue. Hook up the winch, give it the last few cranks, clip it and I’m out of there.

I don't like the clowns that wait in everyone's way, floating around HUA right inside the marina, while their friend goes to get their truck. Pull outside the damn marina and wait until you see your truck and trailer backing down the ramp!

A shit ton of courteous boaters turn into complete douches at the ramp and/or beaches. All politeness goes out the window.
Then you have the drunk assholes yelling at the top of their lungs what an idiot their woman is for not doing something right...then proceed to fuck up his part of the job. Those are always scary to watch go down.:(

Ive always had to launch and retrieve by my self. X wife wouldn't learn to drive truck or boat. I always stress over being the guy that people get upset with. I try to be off the docks as fast as possible. You still have the people that think your dicking around.

Glad i won’t be the only one launching by myself this weekend. My kids usually drive the boat off. 2 cancelled and the 3rd won’t be here until late tomorrow.

My wife and I have a pretty good program. I get the boat fired up and all warmed up at the house. We drive to the ramp (1.5 miles away), pull into the boat ready area where we get everybody and everything ready and loaded into the boat. Turn on the blower and unhook the bow hook then make our way into the line up. When there is an open spot we swing in and the second that there is a clear shot I back down the ramp. When the boat hits the water the wife fires up the boat and I pull out and go get a parking space while she heads for the dock. Our total time on the ramp is usually less then 30 secs. and dock tie up less than 5 mins.
I do understand that not everyone can pull that off. It's much more difficult to pre run the boat if your staying at a motel and not everyone is comfortable with removeing the bow hook early. Those things are understandable but there is no reason not to use the boat ready area to get everything organized before you get to the top of the ramp, that is why they have a "boat ready area" and there is no excuse for not using it. The other thing that pisses me off is the guys that launch and then just hang there right blocking everyone else from getting into the water. Once your boat is afloat get out of the way of others.

I consider myself a newbie and I do get nervous but I don’t get nervous about my ability to take my boat off or put back on my trailer...
What I get nervous about are all the ASS HATS that clog the ramp, take their time getting coolers and people, flip flops put on feet, dogs, chairs, Bimini set up.... oh and I forgot my hat let me get back out of the boat get hat and then get back on the boat....

Then I see all the macho men ( D men as like I call them ) that have a big ass loud boat and expects everybody to get the F out of his way because he is bad ass! If for some strange you weren’t aware he was bad ass just ask him because he will tell you just how bad ass he is!!

I’ve had guys with 100,000 plus $ boats back out of the courtesy docks and not even look to see where they were going or if anyone was in the way...

So I kind of think everybody gets a little on edge when launching or retreaving the boat, on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday’s the edge isn’t so sharp!

I launch and recover by myself a lot, I don't care what anyone thinks about my pickup sitting on the ramp until I can get it. I'm still faster than many depending on where parking is.

Same Here.

Out in boondocks on Mead it's 1 boat at a time, (depending on the water level) on each side of the courtesy dock. I've had people...
Tell me that I couldn't leave my boat tied up to the dock, while I went to park/get my truck.
Attempt to thread the needle with their rig, while my boat tied to the dock.
Stop launching/retrieving their boat, because they saw me alone and thought I needed help. BTW I was still finished and gone before them.
