A buddy of mine lives in Kentucky and has been thinking about geting a boat. He was doing some research on local rentals can came across several "boat clubs". Apparently its like a time share or rental deal where you pay a monty memembership and roll up to the dock and get a boat and use it for the day then return it. They cover cleaning afterwards and you pay for the fuel you use.

They are looking at Suntex Boat Club because they have places in Ky, Tn, and Ga.

He is thinking this is one of those "too good to be true" scenarios.

Does anyone on here have any experience with Suntex or something similar? Good? Bad? Not worth it?

I had a co-worker who was in one at the Ventura Harbor. Worked great for him. Always came to work energized after a Sunday on the water or would go out for a few hours after work if he could sneak off at lunch. Way more boat then he could have afforded on his own. Ended up passing away of a heart attack last year at 58. I was glad he made the most of it not knowing his days were numbered. He wouldn’t have had the means to have his own vessel.

I looked into different boat clubs in Texas.

Trouble was that they are basically rental companies offering premium memberships.

In some cases the boats can be rented by non-members, which means every holiday or nice weekend you're rushing to book before everything is spoken for.

No last minute "hey let's take the boat out tomorrow" type of usage is practical.

I have a friend who does this in the ocean. Reserves a boat uses it, fills it with fuel and walks away. Went fishing with him a few times 24' CC. Can also use it in Florida. I have NO clue on the company.

Well being that they’ve chosen to partner with Mastercraft that’s a red flag to me given the drama with Mastercraft of late….

Freedom boat club in San Diego is 6k buy in and $600 a month. At least that what it was a few years ago, could be more now.

Interesting, never heard of this.
They have them in big blue as well, a co-worker was telling me about it, he was thinking about joining one so he could go fishing out at the islands with the grandkids.

Freedom and carefree are out of Oxnard as well

When we "move" to FL full time we are going to do the freedom boat deal. Friend has it. Show up, walk on. The is a cooler filled with ice. Get back and walk off. They fuel it and get it ready for the next person. Here it is 5k and something like 4-500 and month.

My buddy does this in South Carolina. Seems like he is out every weekend with a nice center console and a bow full of ladies.

Any way to get pricing without giving up an email and phone number?

A few co-workers do Freedom Boat Club and love it. HB, Sea and Cape Cod. All have good experiences. Throw a few extra bucks and you’ll end up with nicer stuff
