Bumping this thread..... My kids are starting to ride, looking at 26" cruisers........ Any input on new bikes? My dirt jumping days are long gone. I just want to ride with the kids.... Local BMX shop has this for 1100.00 but I'm trying to tell myself I don't "NEED" it LOL

That’s what I got, just a few years older. Good bike, but some components are on the cheaper side. I’ve had to replace the freewheel after less than 2 years. And from the beginning I think the crank set was not perfect. My crank sprocket seems straight but you can watch it weave back and forth when turning. I think the issue is the crank arm itself. It would throw the chain if it was too tight or loose.
Other than that, it has been a good bike to ride with the kids for the last 5 years. I’m around 300 lbs just to give reference on what it can handle.

I rode a lot when I was younger. My cousin was a bit more spoiled than my brothers and I. He had a nice Redline and I had a Huffy Flatbed. I really liked the bike actually. It was lighter than the Redline but the brakes sucked so I put in a center pull set-up on the rear, the bars bent when I dropped the bike one day so I got some nice Answer 2 piece aluminum ones. The next was going to be cranks but then I got a driver's license and that got stashed. I tried to bring it back when I moved out, but I was living in Arroyo Grande at the time and didn't have anywhere to store it inside so the salt air just destroyed the bike.

Ham-Bone. There's some cool bikes being built right now with the vintage flair. Retro shit is all the rave!! SE Racing kind've lead the way and now builds all kinds of cool stuff. That SE 29 you posted above is pretty bad ass. But there's other, less mainstream stuff out there that cost the same or less. Everyone has an SE retro bike. They're all over. But other companies are trying to follow SE's success they've had with their whole retro line. GT is making some nice heritage stuff

I’ve got a little collection. Here’s my 1986 16” Pro Performer. I have the marching 20 that needs to powder and will be ready to be put back together. Eddie Fiola inspired. I also have some of the newer retro Performers in the 26” and 29”. The 29” is the blue World Tour mentioned earlier in this thread.

So some fan of hutch bought the right to reproduce them. He’s made a few different frames but updated them to newer geometry and brakes. Pretty sick. He also got permission to make a hutch a frame inspired by CW. He’s making most all parts too.

The SE stuff is super played out. Todd brought that company back from pretty much nothing just to turn it into a punk wheelie kid brand. Lots of drama around that scene, and it’s the same old junk china bikes with new colors every year. They're plenty of other choices out there.

That Bassett cruiser frame looks interesting. Been shopping for a bike to chase the kids around on, don't really want a mountain bike. A 29 inch BMX would be different and cool for sure. Haven't ridden a BMX since I was 10... LOL.

Man this thread brings back memories, but mine are from the 1970's. The photos below are not my bikes (don't know where the old polaroids are), I had all kinds of aftermarket parts on them. But in general these were the colors and models. First bike was a Stroker, rectangular tube frame, heavy as fuck! I raced for a local bike shop so I got a discount on parts. So mine had motomags, ashtabula forks, cranks, gooseneck, bendix inners, thought I was hot shit. Raced it for a year, but it was just hard to get moving because it was so heavy.
Kept it but bought an aluminum Schwinn. Light as could be and was a game changer. I upgraded it with all of the aftermarket parts off my Stroker, but it had plastic Tuff mags. Must have cracked a dozen of them racing. Wanted an XR75 so I sold both to a guy for almost nothing. Later that year bought a Redline mono-shock, turned out to be the funnest bike I ever had. Saw the new 1978 RM125, sold my XR 75 and sold my Redline for $100 bucks. Wish I had them now!

Hard to say. Speed series are mid school frames. JR Cruiser frame I take it. Play up the history of it and the condition easily start at a grand. I’d say up to 1500 or maybe more.

I have an SE. Like Tank said, they’re not bad for an older guy on a bmx bike. I’ve ridden bikes with smaller seats and could not handle sitting on that skinny seat. I can sit and cruise all day long with the SE seat. And it still looks cool on a big bmx.
