I can get a one year old large Green Egg with a large Green Egg Brand wood table for $700 is that a good deal? My friend said it cost him over $1200? Who has one and what do you think of them? I only BBQ a few times a year on a propane BBQ so this whole smoking thing will be new to me. Thanks Frank

Yep, really good deal. Keep in mind this is for slow cooking and not ideal for burgers and steaks. You can make killer ribs, tri tip, brisket, turkey, etc, etc.

Check Costco. Some of the stores still have summer stuff on markdown. I think I saw one for around $600.

When I set up shop again, as in move to a new pad and build a bbq island, I'm down with the Green Egg. I'm getting one:thumbsup

Thats awasome

I have had mine for 6 years. Do burgers and steak all the time. Just cooked a pork shoulder for 4 hours and it was perfect....

Dont ever use lighter fluid to start it...

Use a. Electric bbq starter... Amazon has then cheap..

Amazon.com: Grill Dome RAPIDLITE 600-Watt Electric Charcoal Lighter: Patio, Lawn & Garden@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41Wu3xbofCL.@@AMEPARAM@@41Wu3xbofCL

I put the iron in then a bunch of lump coal( big green egg coal or I use stuff from LOWES sometimes.~~~ LUMP COAL ONLY ~~~.open bottom vent and remove top dampner..

After about 15-20 min un plug iron and put grate on. NOTE:... I will either put in a piece of oak/cherry/grape/hickory or whatever if I want more smoke..

Pending on what I'm cooking I adj heat from there..

Most of my stuff is done around 250..

Burgers and steak I leave the top open and grill like a weber.. I however do cover for a few minutes to melt the cheese before its medium cooked.

Slow cooking smoker is the way to roll.
If ya like meat like that buy it.

Direct grilling destroys meat.

Us egg users don't use anything but electric or oderless fire starter cubes..
You don't want the egg to seal in the gas smell/oder or lighter fluid oder..

never charcoal.. only natural LUMP COAL....

Go to the big green egg forum site.. lots of info there

Had one for a while, steaks are great, you can get some great heat out of it. Had one untill Mrs desided to move it and tipped it over. Green egg went boom. :grumble:

egg cookers are some of the only bbq/smoker/grills that iv'e seen that you can get Hot and control the heat for a ruth chris style of cooking....that said i always need more roon so the fec 100 from Fast Eddie's Cookshack:thumbsup was my pick....most of the time at comps if your an egg cooker your have 3 or 4 of these to lug around:thumbsdown

This is not the experience most people who own a BGE have... Its very easy to sear at 900 degrees or hold low and slow at 200 on an Egg.

Fantastic burgers and even better steaks are simple on the BGE
