Anybody gonna be on the Delta for the Big Cat Poker Run Aug 12-13? It starts/ends at Discovery Bay and it's a great event to watch, even if you don't participate.

Any boat can run this. Doesn't need to be a cat. There can be some big water, sometimes 3-4' wind chop, but you don't have to run the entire Run if you don't want to. Just viewing is a blast also. We usually end up going to other watering holes etc.

My wife and I are participating. Doing the damn dam the weekend prior then trailering to Sac. Looking forward to both weekends! Both damn dam and big cat get to exercise the boat.

Will Mr. Teague be there in his F32? John in his 28 Speedster? I wonder if Grads will show? RogerThat99?

I will be in Tahoe that weekend for the Lionel Richie concert.

I will know in a couple of days and hope to be there giving demo rides.

Sign me up! I'm in between boats, and I've been really considering a 32 Spectre. My other boating partner is also ready to buy. We both live here in Discovery Bay. Keep us posted! Thanks, Gary.

It sounds like there are some on this thread that are very familiar with the Delta, I am not. That said, after the Big Cat is over Saturday the wife and I are taking Sunday to sightsee by boat. I would love a few suggestions on some routes to sightsee as well a high quality/fine dining waterfront restaurant for dinner that would have a dock for the boat. We rented a home on Discovery Bay so all suggestions please keep them fairly close to Discovery Bay so I don't get lost or have fuel issues.

Thanks!

If you're making the journey all the way up here, you really need to go to San Francisco. From Discovery Bay by water, I've made it in about an hour, many times, cruising at 85-90. You can dock just down from Fisherman's Warf. But, when you say sight see? Nothing compares to the view from the SF Bay, Angel Island, Alcatraz, out passed the Gate, pull in to McCovery Cove, and so on. At Fishermans Warf, you'll have anything from awesome clam chowder to fine dining. If the weather isn't cooperating, then I'd head up to Sacramento and there are several nice restaurants on the water with docks. But, if you must stay close to DB, then fine dining is out, lol. But there are plenty of nice restaurants with 20 minutes of DB. I'm sure you'll meet up with some local guys on Saturday during the run that will be wanting to do the same thing on Sunday, and you can follow them.

A lot of the guys have access cards to get into Byron Airport and get AV gas too. Make sure you do not go thru the middle of Franks Tract, especially at the north end. There are old fence posts hidden under the water the majority of the time and they will destroy a boat.

Hey everyone, i'm a Disco Bay resident and would be happy to show people around. My boat only goes 54mph but i know the Delta like the back of my hand. We may participate in the shortened version of the run for the smaller boats.

For fine dining, there aren't too many options but there is definitely some good food. Garlic Brothers in Stockton is really good waterfront dining and about 40 mins from Disco. Boardwalk Grill in Disco is waterfront also and has very good food.

Lots of waterfront bars and grills, and the comment about Franks Tract was accurate. The good thing about the Big Cat run is there will be lots of people that know the way across and you can follow them.

Maybe we should have a RDP meet and greet on Friday evening?

I will be there, spectating and shooting the event. If anyone is going to be out there (participating or spectating), post a picture of your boat and I will try to get some shots of it (it is easier if I know what boats I am looking for. :) )

I am camera shy so tell me where you will be and I will be on the other side of the Delta. LOL

Thanks guys, 2 questions; Is Bullfrogs race gas available at the dock? Does the poker run go by Bullfrogs?

He usually has it available right at the dock but you should call Carl to confirm. He is a great guy as long as you don't get him started on politics. The poker run will only be near Bullfrog when you leave and return to Discovery Bay. The organizers are very strict about following the route also.

Thanks for the advice and I will call Carl prior. From your comment I assume Bullfrogs is close to DB? If so that works awesome. I can not make the Friday run and Saturday poker run on 150 gallons of gas. If I can top off after Friday run and be ready to go Saturday I should be good fuel wise. Then I can get gas again Sunday morning so the wife and I can sight see and hopefully meet you on the water somewhere. Thanks again for the help and insights!

Bullfrog is very close to DB. If anyone needs 91 while on the run Pittsburg Marina always has fresh 91 octane and it's right beside what is usually the 1st stop. Be sure when going west toward the 1st stop and going under the Antioch bridge that you follow the channel markers right of center and go right of the island. There are several sand bars left of the island that can't be seen most of the time. Obviously stay left of the island when you return headed back to the east on San Joaquin River.

Thanks again, great advice. Actually the above helps me out a lot. If I top off tanks with 91 in Pittsburg I should be perfect. My deal only needs 100 octane AV Gas so the mix of race fuel and 91 in Pittsburg should be dead on and relieve all concerns of running low on go go juice.

I spoke to Byron airport and they said they would not allow me to fill my boat with AvGas. Do your friends have a secret handshake to get fuel at the airport?

I haven't been there but the way I understand it they won't "allow" you to fill your boat but if they don't "see" you it can be filled. I think there are certain times that are better and I hear it's only +/- $3.50 gallon

I went and got some race gas from Carl a week ago. I mentioned the poker run. He said he will have fuel if you call ahead and pre pay. May want to touch base with him for the heck of it.

This is really a cool event . More socal and havasu boaters should come to this deal. Some nice long runs and places to stop and eat or drink all over . I drive 11 hours to get to havasu and go at least once a year . Venture out guys it's awsome.

Agreed. One of the best. Its not a haul ass to each card stop and run to the next. Its a cruise to each stop, Stop, get out, hang out, eat, then move to the next stop. Fun run for sure.

This event is a TON of fun with some over the top incredible hardware. It's a pretty long run with plenty of room to stretch the legs on any boat.

I know DCB is going and are big sponsors and supporters of this great event...
The people and the boating are second to none.

Everyone there rolls out the red carpet for the boaters in the event.
Very safe and controlled.

The Lickity Split M 35 is going and Tony and Paul will be in a brand new F 26 with twin Verado 400R engines.

Make it happen, I have a guest room open at our house if you need it.

The weather looks to be awesome, 88/58 perfect and nice break from AZ. We are trailering out Thursday and will be ready for the lunch run Friday. Looking forward to some new scenery and making new friends!

Rob, I will have my boat docked in front of the house we rented at; 4705 Discovery Point. If you are boating and see our boat docked you are welcome to tie up and come over for a cold one!

Great place to hang, have a few cold ones, and watch the hardware go by! if you see my Ultra(Orange/yellow/red cover boat) and have a moment to stop in, i will be wearing a RDP shirt(Just need to order it). i live in NorCal now, but my heart is in Havasu! would love to meet some of you motorheads!

We're doing the poker run again this year. We watched last year and being in the run is much more fun.

Thanks for a fantastic weekend together!! Hope to have a lil bigger boat in years to come and run this event with you.

There may be a Shueman sighting at Big Cat, hope it happens. Saw the new 26 DCB with 400s ran 122 yesterday right off the trailer but still behind the 28 Speedster.
