Not sure I can go there, a few years back when the one was laying their dead for days was tough. That late cold snap and snow got one maybe both of them, cant recall.

Yeah there is an un-hatched egg in the nest. Not sure how long it has been there but they seem to trying to incubat it.

About 30 miles from me in Central Texas today.

There's 2 adults taking turns watching over the nest and you can hear little cheeps coming from it. Never in a million years did I think I'd be seeing Bald Eagles in the south!

Jackie laid her first egg yesterday. If everything goes well it should hatch in about 38 days.

Can't recall what happened last year but I seem to remember an abandoned egg perhaps.... help my memory. I've got friends on BB who kept this on their tv entire day last year waiting for the hatching...

Yeah... fingers crossed on survival of at least two of three. I had years of Great Blue Herons in my 100' pine tree.... typically three hatchings and one always got chucked out of nest as weak one got less food from parents... very agressive birds.... coolest Darwin study of survival ever. I could look into their nests from my office and watch for months. Fascinating.

Yes, the snow looks brutal. But, I would guess a very considerable portion of the North American bald eagle population is born in snow prone areas. Many with much more snow than Big Bear CA.

As noted in the FOBBV chat, the majority of the Bald Eagle population lives in Alaska. They also have a core temp of 105 F. They can handle Southern California.

There used to be a pair of Bald Eagles near southern Lake Havasu, Black Meadow Landing area. Beautiful and amazing birds. Although, in the Pacific NW, they appear to be below Ravens and common Sea Gulls pecking order at the dumpsters.

We have a few over here in Arrowhead.

They must be RDP members, they look like two pissed off California republicans.

Their saying the first egg should hatch today sometime.
Also that last storm we had Jackie sat on the nest for 61 hours 58 minutes with out leaving!

Seems that first egg was given about a 5 day window for hatching? First day was yesterday?

@FreeBird236 You still on the link? I just looked and adult sitting in nest. Are we close to hatch time and do they still have 3 eggs? Thanks
Yes still 3 eggs. Incubation time is about 38-39 days and we're at 40 today. Jackie was real nervous today moving the eggs around and pecking on two of them. Someone made mention that one of the eggs have a crack in it which is a good sign. We may see a chick tomorrow morning.

Nothing yet😪
I was reading on their FB page the first egg is Probably history, but as of 3/8 they were still holding out hope for the other two. They're saying a three egg clutch could take a few days longer. 38-39 days was the norm for their last eggs. I couldn't find the time between #2 and #3, but it was just 3 days between 1 and 2 so I'm guessing we need some action in the next 3-5 days. According to the experts, the parents are doing everything right and show no signs of giving up.

Even FOX News is reporting on the eagle and the eggs. Although, Bill Hemmer put out an untrue report a few days ago, spoke of a photo of one of the eggs beginning to hatch. Appears that never happened.

Heard this morning that all three eggs are dismissed...sad turn of events for Jackie and Shadow.
I wonder if that one powerfully storm took its toll. Jackie was on the nest for like 70+ hours trying to keep them warm.

I'm guessing it's the brutal winters we had the last 2 years.

I was talking to my wife about this and I wouldn't be surprised if a Bald Eagles nest from colder climates are constructed different than Jackie and Shadows nest.

I was just watching and at 20:36, Momma got up and moved around and I could still see three eggs underneath her. She rearranged herself, then laid back down on the eggs. 🤷

So, what does this mean when they use the term "Dismissed?"

I'm wandering if she happens to feel any movement in her eggs. The eagle can sustain I believe 170* core temperature. I don't know if the cold did have any effect on the eggs, maybe.

The report I read didn't use the term dismissed, they said because of the length of time since being laid they are about a week or more past viability. They also said the parents will continue to take care of the eggs, but will slowly begin to leave for longer periods of time and eventually the predators will get the eggs. I was still holding out hope, but realistically it appears to be over for this year.:(

I googled that exact question and can they hear or feel a heartbeat, best answer seemed to be no one seems to know for sure. Personally, I would think they can, but who knows.🤷‍♂️

In the most perfect situations with a perfect nest and perfect temperatures it’s still only a 33% chance an egg will hatch.

Ya, I'm with you. I would think they could, but maybe just by the structure of the feathers they don't.
