Give her Moma’s Jeep. I didn’t read all the responses. Is that not an option?
So for whatever reason mom loves her Jeep, honestly, I Think she likes dudes looking at her mashed up bead locks and having Jeep envy of a good looking chick driving a decent trail rig LOL

If she takes over Jeep momma is gonna want a grown up car to replace it $$$$$ 😂 for now she’s stoked on her Jeep with all the ducks on the dash, who am I to complain😉

My first car was a 66 bug that I bought at 14 years old. Now my son wants to buy a bug and fix it up for his first car, but safety is a concern...

I almost bought a '53 (oval not split) bug and a 62 bus as a first car--but parents smashed those dreams.
They were worried about safety too.
Ended up in a 1990 Ford Thunderbird SC (this is back in early 90's). That car found its way head on with a Chevy 1500 at about 35mph. Both cars totaled. I split the trucks frame and my engine was pushed against the firewall with a crack across the supercharger.

My Gabby is 16 now so I've been paying attention, seems half the girls in my town under 21 are driving Maximas and Altimas?
Lucked out as Grandma had helped a family member into a Suburu Legacy they gave back, cost me 3K to make it right but she will be in a real safe reliable car I hope.

I’d put a transmission in the Tahoe and have her drive that if she’s comfortable with the size. If not get her a mid/full-size sedan or smaller suv like a rav4.

Mini Cooper
I bought my youngest a Mini. I ended up putting two motors in it, even though she's the only one of my kids who maintained anything. It cost me more in repairs than I spent on the car. I'll never buy another one.

Best vehicle for my daughter next year is going to be a 2012 Ford Edge, because that’s what we have and that’s what she’s getting! 😆

How do we feel about Mazda 3 with automatics?
My daughter has an 05 with 150K plus on it. It has been a great little car. We bought on the recommendation of two different people. One was a friend who is a career mechanic and a guy I work with. Mechanic friend bought his daughter one because they never come into his shop and when they do its only for routine maintenance. Guy at work bought one for his twin daughters who rolled theirs on the freeway and walked away.

My wife has had Tahoe's, Bmw, Mercedes and wanted something less expensive and good on gas. Got her a Mazda, really happy with it. Just got my 16 y/o daughter a 2021 Mazda CX5 cpo with 14k miles, like new lease return and we are all very happy with it. It was $10,000 less than a new one. Really, nice reliable cars for the money. South Bay Mazda Torrance, Chris Jones sales guy, good guy and been doing it a long time. I usually walk out of the finance guys office pissed at dealerships when they change the deal/numbers etc.
I went back to Chris and bought a second car from him it was such a a good experience!
I'm the son of a life long car dealer and grew up working at his car lots...

I know I’ve looked into the CX – 3 for my next daughter. Would do well for all her dance stuff going back and forth to the studio.
Great car--but we crossed it off our list when looking cause it did not have rear AC vents.
May not seem like a big deal, but we live in NV and cars were going up to Central OR where it does climb over 100*
Nothing worse than getting into a hot car and getting home before it ever cools off.

It is a big deal, probably the one thing I don't like about my Bronco
CX5 has rear vents, feels a lot roomier inside also to me.

Mazda's are very underrated cars. We've had a few and my wife currently has a 2016 Miata that she treasures, only drives it once in an awhile. Her daily driver is a 2014 Mercedes E350, which has been a very good car, but the Miata is a soft-top and it's not that much fun here in Havasu, especially during the summer months. I'll take a Mazda over just about any other Jap car.

I walked into Carmax with $12k cash, and said what ya got? Ended up with a 2017 Ford Focus. She has had it for 5 years now, not a single problem. Had to put new tires on it, I think it is sitting at 65k miles snow.

My sons, I bought one of the kids a Toyota Carolla, no issues. Other son bought a 5 speed Ranger, threw money at that truck.

It’s probably not the best car. But for some reason I’m thinking Range Rover. A ten year old Range Rover. 😁

Supercharged! My Ex would go through brakes every 10k miles with hers. Nothing but problems with it.

I still have a bit of time, she’ll be 16 and driving in June, but I’m starting to think about what type of car to put her in. A couple schools of thought cross my mind. I’m not gonna run out and buy her a brand new car, she can buy her own brand new car when she gets her shit together and has a career. That being said I figure whatever I buy her should last her long enough to get her to that position in life. Aswell I don’t want to be dealing with maintenance issues now or when she goes away to college, or pretty much ever. Something that is safe, you put gas in and can have basic service done by any decent mechanic.

The baby beemers and baby Benz’s might not be a bad way to go, find a low mile creampuff she can run hard for the next 75k miles, safe solid German cars are never a bad way to go.

So what’s the move here? Obviously some UJV (universal Japanese vehicle) is most likely a solid move aswell, but god damn you only live once and those cars just suck the will to live out of a person, I believe cars need to be sexy, and make you feel good, when you get out of your car and are walking away from it, if you don’t look back at it, you’re driving the wrong car.
I would plan on a few minor fender benders, so find something with plenty of salvage yard parts, and cheap insurance.
If she makes it through the first two years without destroying her first car, then maybe get her into something longer term.

Cvt transmission is hot trash
My mother has a Nissan Rogue with that snowmobile transmission. I think that car gets terrible mileage because of it.

A Mazda 3 with a manual trans. Done.

I was 16 in 1999. I drove a '99 Super Sport Camaro, 6SPD black on black. It was not kept stock :) I few tickets, but kept it rubber side down in perfect shape and still have it to this day. My parents were a little nuts, lots of car at that age...

So, I'm probably on the side of recommending something cool. Agree with WhiteWorks, you can't drive something that sucks the life outta ya. My daughter will roll something cool without a doubt.

The double clutch issue was a problem that Ford remedied. The Fusion 2013+ by far is your best bet. little inline 4 single turbo, 87 octane....

Fusion or focus?
Focus. My daughter has a 2014. It has eaten a couple of clutches, but repaired under warranty. I believe the transmission computer also has an extended 150k mi. warranty. Except for the weird transmission, its a nice little car. She has about 115k on hers and except for the clutch, she has only had to put rear shocks and a battery in it. We paid 12k for it in 2017 when it had 20k mi, so not too bad.

My daughter loves her 2014 Focus. We just have to deal with the transmission every 20k miles. The engine is bullet proof because its a Mazda.

I found an independant guy that will repair so I am no longer as worried about the car as I used to be.
