A few of us were shooting the shit in the hangar after work yesterday when our buddy calls who would usually be there with us “debriefing” at the end of the day. He just bought a new to him boat and has been working on it in hopes of going to the river for Labor Day. It’s a clapped out little boat, but he’s a young kid and takes his chick with him and they have a fun time camping in the heat and floating in broke down boats, you guys know the deal, best of times, worst of times, es la Vida.

So he took the boat out to Perris for a second test sesssion yesterday, first test session was last Sunday and ended up getting towed in, he had his chick with him Sunday, I saw them leaving the airport and she gave me the “we’re going boating” wave good bye, I gave her the “that piece of shit is gonna break down” wave goodbye.

So yesterday about an hour before sunset we get a text that he’s out at Perris and is broke down floating again, says he has his “one oar” out and is paddleing in to the ramp. So being very mature and not dicks at all, we hopped on a plane and flew out there to make fun of him. 😂

Should have "air dropped" them "something"...
We discussed putting a small bag of flour in the flaps void, but figured hitting someone with a bag of flour at 200mph might not sit well, also some ass hat always has a video camera these days, so we stayed legal for this mission👍.

OFO (out fucking off) is pretty common acronym we use😂

My first thought was maybe some water balloons, then maybe some beer off to the side with something to keep them floating, then I thought maybe another paddle.

I’m guessing he got the point of our mission when he saw us overhead approximately 8 minutes after he sent the text telling us he was broke down again. 😂😂

So we essentially turned $100.00 in fuel into a priceless video for postierty😉

Finally, using a plane as it was originally intended.

I'm still smiling.

Would have been super funny to drop a weighted buoy right by the boat with a note saying "your girlfriend is a bad judge of character!"

Love it--
Now don't get me wrong. But that vid isn't f=something to brag about.
I mean its 28sec long and you see this poor guy for about 6-7 sec.
That buddy's gonna have to teach you how to use a camera.

But now everyone knows what to get this guy for Xmas--just read this thread all kind of good gifts for when hes broke down again.

Unrelated but years ago was in the yard slaving at making a front yard one early morning and a small plane kept circling around my new home "rum" , "rum" "rum" round and round for about a half hour I remember thinking "who is that crazy fuker" Next morning the headlines were crazy man steals Cessna in San Luis Obispo .............. My Buddy , fellow Hot Rodder, Drag boat pilot , Parts man and overall Besty from High school had a bit of an early morning "adventure" and was buzzing my new castle (Greg Stark 51' to 23' RIP )

What plane are you in?

We can see that 😁😁
My partners 310 was still on the ramp so it was an easy lift. Airports are cool places, with cool people, there are things here that go places and get there fast. Everyday here is an adventure and I never know where I may end up when I leave the house for “work” in the morning.

This afternoon we pushed the Pitts out for some seat time With a badass instructor, not sure what this evening holds on store.

It’s Friday afternoon, just cracked a cold Pacifico and im chilling, hangars mopped, I’m done for the week. Now it’s time to sit back and enjoy the afternoon at the airport before Friday night lights, away game tonight, so we travel.

I got these pics a while back of Steve McQueen and his hangar at Santa Paula airport. He and his wife lived in this hangar for a few years while he was the highest paid actor in the world. So here’s a guy who could be anywhere doing anything, just sayin that old hangars and little airports are good places to find yourself on a Friday afternoon.

I like to think of Steve McQueen under his racing (auto & motocross) entry name… Harvey Mushman. Dude was a man amongst men.

310 thats awesome. A friend owns Leading Edge flight school in Bend OR, they also do charter work
My son may be heading there to be an instructor after he finishes ASU and his CFI in December. Just spending time in the hangers is fun not to me mention the views

When I was a full time instructor around the Turn of the millennium, I was based out of CMA and always used to take my students over to SZP to practice landings. That place has so much cool history.

Yup... Hangars are pretty cool and not a bad choice in today's environment to camp out a bit if needed. The guy right down the way from my school always has classic cars, highend planes, and just random cool shit stored in there. Pretty sure he has way more toys than he could use in a couple weeks.

I've considered moving the family outta here and setting up camp in a hangar for the work week a few times. Wouldn't be hard to set up the RV and build a small bathroom in there. We shall see. Of course I'd need the commuter plane too.😁

Woke up this fine Saturday with nothing to do, decided I’d go into “work” @RVRKID just as I pulled me of my pals says we’re gonna fly out for breakfast someplace, you want to go? Well since it’s a work day now and I’m in the aviation business I said yes, a few of us flew a nice Barron out to fox field in Lancaster for breakfast. On my car map app it says that 1 hour and 40 minutes drive, we were there in 18 minutes. As we landed out there I got a call from a new customer and we set an appointment for onboarding at noon back at my place, we landed at 11:55, I hopped out and walked over to meet the new client. Got him all set up and now I’m gonna hit up a bbq swim party here in town.

You guys climb to Rose bowl and then north straight over the mountains? I think I'd be at VX the whole time from Chino trying to get high enough to pop over the mountains. Side note. Chino to Lake Isabella was a route I had to plan. Getting around a few TFR's made that a very long route.

It is all fun and games till the airport authority catches you living in the hangar, then they throw you and all of your shit out and rent it to someone else.

Other than totally privately funded airports, trying to live in a hangar is usually a short term operation.

On the way back we came right over the top of Mt. Wilson at 9500’ then descended immediately. It was warming up out in the desert so the climb on that side was a little more work. On the way up we crossed over before Mt. Wilson. I’m a pretty big fanboy of Beechcraft planes, Bonanzas, Barons, King Airs, all super badass planes.

Here is a picture of my hangar at Van Nuys (KVNY) airport.
I sold the Baron last year but kept the hangar, it is a fun place to hang out.
How long did you have a Baron for? I can set one of our sims up as a B58 with G-1000, if you need to stay proficient on the cheap. If you’re current you can maintain currency on our sims.

I could live in a hangar just fine, my wife on the other hand prefers a house. 😂

When I was a single man... I was going to build a hangar with a 1 bedroom apartment in the corner. That's when I found out about trying to live in one on a publicly owned airport. Yeesh.

But it would have been so cool. At the time most of my free time revolved around hanging out at the local airport. We had beer call at 4pm everyday. I hung around enough to get rides in quite a few different airplanes (when I wasn't flying my own 182) and even warmed the right hand seat of a B200 King Air for a while for a local company.
