Don't worry, they're cute little Arizona bears. Not giant ones like up north. That said, I'd steer clear of any animal that should be in the hills, down in the desert.

Wow. Not much to eat

There is a population of elk around Alamo lake as well. Browns crossing area up in the salt cedars. AZGFD has over the counter tags available for deprivation hunts.

Funny how animals we think should be in the mountains find their way to the low desert.

We have a lot of Wildlife that makes its way down out of the San Bernardino National Forest into the high desert in Apple Valley, but most people are completely clueless because they don't think that any wild animals (other than coyotes) could ever be in the desert.

Black Bear, Mountain Lions, Bobcats, etc. have all been spotted deep into the residential neighborhoods here in Apple Valley and Hesperia. Growing up, I remember at least three occasions where we were told to stay in the house because there was a mountain lion or black bear passing through our two and a half acre property.

We had this guy cruising through at 7:30 am on friday, and the neighbors have also confirmed a few bobcat sightings lately. We have five acres with at least 30 large trees and a few areas of dense bamboo forest, so I have no doubt he probably lives here on the property.

When I lived in Alta Loma, you'd occasionally hear about black bear sightings. On the trails above Sapphire and Cucamonga canyons you'd see bear skat. I used to spend a lot of time up there. Researched the bears, and found out they weren't indigenous. In the 30's, the Parks people deported the troublesome bears from Yosemite. The "Yogi's" that bothered campers and such were shipped south to the Angeles forrest...and made themselves at home.

That's crazy.
It'd be interesting to talk w/ Fish & Wildlife and get their take on that bear. Lost? . . . Unhealthy? . . . perfectly normal?
Seems like it'd be hard for it to find enough food to survive.

To me, from just that photo, he/she looks fine.

Wonder if a bear can run down a baby Burro? My guess is yes.

Grizzly Bears run down young Elk, so why not?

Agreed . . . the one seen around Bill Williams last year looked a little rough.
I forgot about the burros . . . good call.

We get bears pretty regularly. Harmless trash 🗑 bears. They will destroy a car interior if they get in trying to find some French fries between your seats. Also had them blow the jamb out of my garage man door trying to get at a 40lb bag of dog food in the garage.

In addition to the one last year down by Bill Williams there was this old citing from Lake Havasu a few years back. Kind of hilarious the authorities questioned whether he’s been drinking or not.🙄

This is almost every week, it gets old because of the mess they make with the trash cans. This is a photo of them eating the olives that drop.
