Sooooo the last two trips have been a little frustrating to me. I think a box anchor would help tremendously but let me get some input from the pros. I always beach the boat, it's easiest for my family and what we do. I've either never noticed or I've never had this issue until the last two trips, both on the river. It seems that it's really shallow. We find a nice sandy beach and I pull up. The problem is my out drive (nose of bullet) end up in the sand. Now I'm not sure if this is a big deal? Maybe it's common, but it bothers the hell out of me. All day I'm back there checking and wrestling w the boat. Entertaining to watch I'm sure. So my thoughts are this.... First thing that comes to mind is get a bigger boat. Out drive will be further back and on deeper water [emoji12] wife disagrees. [emoji35] second thought is set an anchor tie it to my ski hook and not really pull up on the beach and tie the front to a sand spike. It seems like when I beach w just the sand spike I'm just a little too far up. Any thoughts or and suggestions?

Keep working on the wife! :D

Eli LOVES the river and the boat. That's actually been a huge blessing because I don't think Michelle was that into it before. Now she has no choice [emoji12]

I don't really care about the drive touching the sand in a calm cove, but what I care about is if there's waves slamming the boat around. I don't beach anymore in the gorge unless it's in the nowake

Vic:
I have trouble with trying to anchor on the river and end up constantly readjusting everything so I have pretty much given up on that, if I'm going to yhe beach I just run it up till it's stabil and deal with any paint or minor hull scuff issues later. Don't get me wrong , it's not that I don't care about the boat but with a family and dogs you really cant keep it pristine so you might as well just enjoy it while you can and then deal with any consequences.

That's exactly what bothers me is the constant bashing. I was going to leave this part out because I realize how dumb I am after my wife let me know [emoji12] but last time I was back there fighting it and put my hand under the bullet in between wakes. Well of course I smashed the hell out of my hand, BUT it proved my point the the drive was getting beat up [emoji23]

Yea I think I might just have to deal w it. It's one of those catch 22's my wife tells me to get over it and have fun w the boys and fix it later. Then when I fix it she tells me I need to stop blowing money [emoji23][emoji379]

Depends how hard it is hitting the ground. If it is just lightly no problem. If it is really bouncing and moving around back there it can west out the gimble ring. Ask me how I know

When that happeneds with mine I usually just get the boat a little more in the water and tie the sand spike. ( in calm water that is)

You could set one anchor to the rear and tie the boat so it is loose on the beach. Or set and anchor and back it in.

As long as the water isn't really rough I don't bother. I just kill the motor prior to it hitting the beach and when backing out I push the boat deeper in the water before starting the motor to not suck sand into the motor.

Ya got three choices Viv

1 Get a bigger boat

2 throw a box anchor out the stern and tie front to sand spike

3 pull up on beach, burry skag and get paint from Wallmart. It's really no big deal!

I did number 2 for years and gave up and changed to 3. I did number 1 first and it still happened.

I understand but don't be so anal.... Beach and spray!!!!!

Box out the rear and let a little line out on the sand spike. If your box has a bungee line it makes it easier as the line will pull the boat away from shore as you let out line from the spike, keeping the boat straight.

I use the bungee line when I anchor. It keeps it out further and you can pull it in when you want to board the boat. Your drive looks way better than mine...Of course my boat is an old beater.

Ah the beauty of an outboard! I can trim the motor up so it is higher than the bottom of the hull. The problem I come across is on really shallow beaches my transom will be on the beach before the keel so wind and waves and make the bow drift side to side.. I need to get a sand spike.

Dig up some of the sand under the drive.
No joke.
I've literally done just that if my boat was well set and not moving left or right on a beach but drive clearance (even trailered up) wasn't sufficient. Made enough space for the up/down bobbing.
.
Edit.....which cost zippo dolloros btw[emoji6]

Dave there is a box anchor and a it's ties to the from buddy in that pic...

RK,
I did not mean to offend.
I could not dive down in the water to see what was going on in that picture. :D
I was just funning.
I would like to see that HTM up close some time. It looks cool.
I may have met you about 6 or 7 years ago at Park Moabi.
There was a group that showed up at our beech.
I was intrigued with those boats.
Any way if you happen to see the Root Beer Float Hallett Mini Cruiser out and about come say hello.

Beached in Willow Valley this trip, and saw it was rocky as hell right as I was beaching. Boat got rocked a few times by waves/wakes, and the skag was getting bounced off rocks essentially...full trailer up. When I pulled the boat out, this is what I saw:

Next time I know better, nose out with box anchor and shore spike.

Hey Vic, the proper term used would be skeg. And keep it out of the sand and mud! A can of mercury paint goes a long way, a little every now and then won't effect your boats performance.

This is what I do but for different reasons. I don't have a lot of free board and the big block weight doesn't help from m taking waves over the back. When I pull the boat into a sand bar, I'll walk the boat in when I get close spin the boat around so I'm bow out to the waves use a bung cord to a box anchor in the front and a sand spike to the rear. I think it does a couple things for me 1) keep waves out of the back of the boat 2) no one is climbing over the bow with sandy feet 3) keeps drive from being beaten on the bottom 4) with the bungee on the front it allows the boat to move as water level fluctuate with out pulling the anchor 5) as water level drops your boat isn't stuck on the sand. I realize 4 and 5 are lower river issues but I do the same at Parker and havasu because it's just the way I do things [emoji39][emoji39][emoji39]

I heard of someone loosing a finger by putting their hand under the skeg and a wave hit. :yikes

Try an anchor buddy put the boat out a little deeper with transom line. The constant betting on the bullet of the drive is hard on the gimbal ring

I anchor bow out with a sand spike for the transom. And with an outboard tunnel hull, the engine is out of the water😁

Bow out with anchor and rear line tied back to the beach with sand spike.
