I was talking to my brother in law last night about the house my wife and I bought last summer in Havasu. We have been renting it out as a vacation rental. So far so good. I have been going out here and there but I am currently boatless, so I basically do things around the house and don’t go on the water.

My Brother-in-law has an old boat that has been in his family for years (since new) It is a mid-80s Bayliner Capri, open bow with an Iron Duke 4 banger. Runs fine, looks fine and free to me.

I don’t really care what anyone thinks, as long as I’m on the water, but it got me thinking, how many of you would forgo the season if you had to rock a Bayliner?? On a side note, how much shade are you going to throw me when I pull up next to you in a boat that with a full tank, costs as much as your steering wheel? LOL! I’ll try not to cramp anyone’s style!!!

I would take it out without hesitation, you would be on the water enjoying your day. True story I have a good friend who was always putting down his older Baja, I took him aside and gave him the talk about folks that can’t afford any boat or folks that don’t know anyone with a boat that would love to be on the water. I know he was at the time somewhat intimidated by my Howard, I shut that down also.

Any day on the water is a great day!

Don’t matter what you’re driving, from a million dollar MTI to a 21’ bay liner. We’re all doing the same thing at the end of the day…enjoying the lake with friends and having a good time.

I just sold two boats and I plan on ordering my new dream boat. But its a year out. Guess what, I bought a beater boat to fill the gap. A 1988 Mastercraft Prostar 200 with an outboard. There are some deals out there but you need not be too picky. I’d rather be on the water than on the beach.

Run it! We run around in a old school ski boat sometimes pack 9 people in it! People don’t realize how loud they talk in the channel! Driving through last summer so dude watching us going by “fuck that little thing now way I’d ride around in that” mean while we spent tho entire day on the water pulling tubes Eating lunch on one the many beaches that aren’t packed them cruised back the road the havasu springs ramp just in time for dinner! That dude drinking beer probably didn’t even have a boat!

I'd absolutely run it. Just be aware of likely rough water limitations. Wish we still had our 4 banger Tahiti.

Personally I wouldn't run that boat. Those things were the absolute lowest quality boat made back in the 80s. I guess if you have been on the boat enough over the years to know its reliable and how it runs in bad/windy conditions then go ahead. If its me I make friends with someone who has a better quality boat or get a used waverunner.

It would be fun to start a group with just total beater boats and schedule a meet up. Call it “Hoopties in Havasu”. Don’t even need bumpers for the tie up.

Beaters are better!

This is a great idea! I'd be up to go buy a cheapo beater boat and run it down there.

Many years ago a group of us would go the the river and we all had nice boats. One of the guys bought an old tri-hull beater for like 100 bucks. It was green and was made by a company called Enterprise so naturally, it became the SS Enterprise. I think we had more fun on that thing than any boat I've owned!

I personally find boating on a budget much more enjoyable at this stage in life. Don’t have to yell at the kids for every little thing. Still on the water with the family, spending quality time and overall much less stress.

Run it.

I definitely wouldn’t go out on a crowded windy day, but for putting around on a quiet day, it does the trick

100 percent agree. I have a pontoon boat that was showing vintage when I bought it in my early 20's. I will never sell it - we have had so many great days on it with family and friends.

Any boat beats no boat!! Seriously, I hate being near a lake without a boat. I gotta have something that floats, even if its a tin can with a 9hp outboard.

I've owned many boats in my life from 12ft alum to a nice yacht that took between 8 to 10 tons of fuel to fill it. Some of those boats have been Baylines. Have hours of memories and fun regardless of brand or size. One of the hardest hitting fights I ever got into was over a Bayliner. Loading a friends boat back on the trailer after a great day on the lake. This fine gentleman aproched us and said, I wouldn't be caught dead in a Bayliner. My response .........wait for it.......... says the little bitch that's standing on the shore with the children. I think he must of taken it wrong, or not but he came swinging. He got the first hit, we traded one for the other and he took off in a slow jog not saying a word. I was standing there wiping blood off my face and Steve my friend said " for Gods sake GF, couldn't you of started off with a good fuck you.

Many times, I always say I have 20 years on you in the boat game, you'll catch up. When I lived in Seattle the launch we often used had a huge grassy area next to the launch and I would point to the families on towels and tell my friends those people wish they had your boat right now.

I used to have an inferiority complex about my 29 Outlaw because I hung with Cigarettes, Fountains, Donzi's, Formula's, etc. Eventually I realized that to most people they can't tell the difference between any of them and they are just as much in awe of my boat as the others.

Kenny, I'll never forget riding and driving your Canyon but also loved cruising around your lake in that little run about. Can't say which was more enjoyable.
