I believe most folks on this site appreciate the sacrifices made by those fought so we can enjoy the freedoms that we have... I only wish Obama and his cohorts felt the same way about the brave ones who fought for this country. Think about it next time you are floating down the river sipping a cold one.

I think about it all the time.. Sad most youths at the river don't even know what "Memorial Day" is all about.. Just a vacation day for them. :( Saw a video someone posted about it once that was pretty sad.

Iwo Jima is the most famous, with the pics, and the John Wayne movie, but there were other Pacific Islands we invaded, and I find it hard to keep them straight in my mind, cuz they are called different names, I think I read somewhere that Marines took 5 islands (beaches) so experts please correct me:
Guadalcanal
Saipan (Mariannas?)
Peleliu (Gilberts)
Tarawa
Iwo Jima
Okinawa

With Tarawa being virtually unknown, yet in some ways the worst, because the Higgins boats hit the reef and capsized on the way in, so the Marines had to wade a long distance.
