I've got a set of group 24 batteries. I'm planning to mount them in some billet boxes, but the recess in the boxes are a little bigger than the battery? Is this normal? Looks like a quarter inch in the length and width.

They are probably for group 27

That would suck since I ordered group 24 from CP!

Batteries are used. I'll measure a group 27 and consider replacing. Thanks for the input!
24's should be 10 3/4" X 6 3/4" and 27's should be 12 3/8" X 6 3/4". I would think they are made slightly larger to accommodate some of the variations in battery brands. As long as the inside dimension on the top is smaller it won't move.

My boat has two 27’s and a 24, no way they are 2-3” different. The width is almost identical and the length is about 3/4” - 1” (for interstates).
