My son was given some old baseball cards, from the looks of most of them they appear to be 20-30 yrs old. Some are clean a good bunch of them got screwed-up by rain.

What kind of cards have any value and what's the best way to sort them? By year, team or what/how? I have no idea if there is anything of value in them and if cards from 20-30 yrs ago have any real value?

I guess I should Google top 100 baseball cards or something like that and then we can start sorting them....... What are we looking for?

if you dont know what you have best to do is sort by mfc--Topps ect
then by alphabet then go to boarders books or something and get BBcard price guide.
thats what i did about 10yrs ago and then plastic sleaved ones that are $5. + or ones you may like.
it will take time but-----time spent with kids is priceless :thumbsup

Keep em. Put thim in a special binder and save them. Your kids and grandkids will love that.

I have a few rare cards. Lyle Alzado rookie, Harmon Killebrew rookie, and a Roberto Clemente. I have them still at my parents house.

While you're at it find some old school wooden clothespins and put those cards in the spokes of your kids' bikes :)

As suggested we'll start sorting and see if there is anything pre- 80's and go from there.

I had the opportunity to sell over 100,000 Hockey cards last year. Apparently 3 to 4 years ago there was some sort of "sports card crash". 99% of the cards that I had were worthless. Usually the cards for the players that had the best stats for their time period would get the most money. Some rare cards are valuable and some are not, it mainly depends on the player that's on the card. I had cards that were 1 of 10 and they were only worth a buck or two and I had cards that were 1 of 500 that were worth $30.00+. Most of the collectors I ran across were collecting specific player's cards vs. specific team's cards. Selling those hockey cards was extremely tedious. I still have about 95,000 worthless hockey cards. BTW, want some hockey cards?

So I guess I will just keep sitting on my Hockey cards after reading this.
