Here's some more food for thought -

This MTI has been for sale for over a year and hasnt sold at nearly 400k (but I've also heard it doesn't run that great since being converted to OB's).

MTI.jpeg

The trailer that CRC is sitting on is a 200k trailer new. Crazy, the CRC package is going to sell for half the trailer value. lol

From what I've been told CRC is a partial carbon layup and some of the carbon needs addressing. Also, like I said previously, it's gonna need a new transom (wet) How far up the stringer and how much needs to be done is unknown and is a can of worms.

I do believe the "paint" on the CRC is a wrap.

I totally get the attraction to the CRC boat. Cheap in, so much potential of "building" a boat to your own specs and creating exactly what you want. Some people see the potential of a project and the fun of putting something together...I get it. However, the flip side of that coin is, especially when you're talking about boat projects, it usually never pencils out right. EVER.

Well,

I went WAYYYY down the rabbit hole last night, probably farther than I should. The reality is that I am only chasing a canopy boat, not chasing this boat specifically.

I have some some parameters that need to be met, and some things that might not be everyone's cup of tea. All said and done, I don't see this water ready for sub $300K after buying the boat. The trailer is almost a deal breaker! Its not really setup for launch/retrieve, more of a crane situation. I went down to my local ramp yesterday afternoon and stuffed a tape measure in the water, which is high right now, and I don't see me being able to launch the boat, as the ramp isn't long enough to float the boat before falling off the end. That's a problem. So you buy the boat, try to sell an old tilt, buy a flat, blah blah blah..... My interest is becoming less by the minute.

When the rubber hits the road, my time is worth something, maybe less than some, and more than others, but I am not one to drop this thing off at Barrett and tell A to call me when its ready. (1) I cannot afford it, and (2) I would want to do a lot of it myself. The structural stuff would get farmed out for sure! So when I step back and say "ok stupid, is this worth it" the answer is no. When I can drive to KY tomorrow and pickup a similar, albeit not the same, boat that is the same year, make, similar size, full canopy, TCM 1500s, 6's, etc. for sub $300K, I just don't see the CRC boat penciling.... Does the complete boat have its basket full of issues, oh fuck yes, but its all there.

I at one point had myself talked into this, and I feel that I am doing a pretty good job of talking myself out of it now.... 🤣

Have you looked at any old 32 Cannopy Race boats in FL? They are always popping up for sale. This may be a better path?

Yeeeeeeeeah, hate to say it, but good call! This is not the project for anyone that's thinking budget minded. 😬 I think you could throw this thing together "half assed" for all in under 300k all day. Havea lot of "cool factor" but wont be the fastest and wont be the cleanest. Used, under 1k hp a side, power, used drives, wrap it, rig it, run it. All day. To do like you're talking about? Time and money will be the least of your worries. lol

I just have to be able to break even when I get tired of it, which we all know won't be very long LOL..... Even if I donate my labor, I am not sure that happens. I have been successful over the years of being able to buy/run/repair/upgrade/sell without totally losing my ass, and I'd like to keep that streak alive (although this Jet Bote might be the one that breaks that streak).

You know, probably better than anyone, that I enjoy the chase & build more than ownership or operation.

Thing looks like a disaster , a lot a lumber in the MTI , ROT . The Fountain 60 foot cruiser looks like a better deal . Or back in the day the Drambuie race boat was a hell of a deal

Buddy GL bought that thing and brought it back to life. Was supposed to run it to the sand bar with him during the KW Worlds Race / Poker Run few years ago but of course, I was too hung over to get out of bed. KW has that affect on me! 😆 😆

Speaking of canopied cats...

For nearly the same price, this things is ready to run!! And would probably fit your launch requirements better.

what is the other boat in KY that you speak of? 🤔 I’m not in the market, just curious.

I think more than all of us expected lol.

Whoever bought it didn’t know the rest of the story in my opinion. Luckily, I knew most of the drama and some members here confirmed part of that. The trailer value in todays world is the wildcard here.

Back to selling one river missile to fund another. I’ll wait for the right big water bote…
