Going through the no wake zone at the 40 and my kids saw people jumping from the rope under the bridge. All of a sudden they scream and say a guy just landed on the front of a Boat and fell in the water. Everybody rushed over there but I didn't want to go back and have my kids see anything. Hope the guys was OK but didn't look good at all.

I just read this on FB and the "story" was that he jumped from the very top most point of the bridge. People in the boat must be traumatised, and hopefully unhurt. Proves again that stupid hurts.

Yes, he jumped from the upper higher level and landed on the tip of the bow of what appeared to be a Ski Boat and fell into the water.

I can't stop thinking about this.. It was the subject of the bar most the night tonight. I know some of you guys are making jokes, and I get it I got a ton of my own..

Good god though.. let's say you are idling either to or from Topock and all of a sudden WHAM!

That scene is pretty shocking and horrific.. n add a couple of beers for the driver (even though I can't see any judge not throwing it out?) and it could be catastrophic.. Especially if they use liberal or California logic..

I feel terrible for the boat this guy hit, and make no mistake I feel terrible for the what I can only assume is a young man that was proving his medal to end up like that..

I keep thinking what if that was me going through the bridge and that happened. you can plan for everything, except when it's raining men. That is a new one on me.

one time we actually stopped at watch 3 teens climb up there. 2 made the jump, the 3rd turned back. Thats a pretty good drop and hit on water, I can't even imagine how hard that would be on a boat nor the outcome for the jumper or the boat. You feel bad for the jumper a bit, but he made his choice. the people on that boat though had nothing to do with it and I feel really bad for them. Hope the kid is ok still.

Is the boat that got hit by the jumper confirmed that they weren't part of the jump. I have seen boats leave there kids off at the beach so they can make the jump and stay close so they can pick the jumpers back up. Maybe he or she landed in there own boat.?

Regardless of who's boat it was, why would the operator of any boat get close enough to be landed on by a rope swing. As boat operators it is our first priority to ensure the safety of our passenger as well as anyone around us. We must assume that those around us will make bad decisions so we must act accordingly.

It is really shitty that this happened and I hope nobody was seriously hurt. That being said, the situation could have and should have been avoided.

Agreed. This is the 2nd bad accident with this rope swing in the past month. They didn't find the body of the other victim for a couple days down river.

As I am reading this he wasn't on the rope swing but actually jumped off an upper level of the bridge.

Yeah. Now think about the guy waiting one more second to jump... Now he lands on someone in the boat.

Kind of reminds me of the scene in The Departed when the guy almost lands on DeCaprio after being tossed out the window.

Talk about everyone being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

I was at Rustys this morning. The owner said he was there when it happened he said. Kids were jumping off of one side but another kid jumped from the opposite side and didn't look. He landed on the openbow of wakeboard boat on a girl and bounced off the boat into the water. Another boat grabbed the kid. They were not together at all.

A friend who was with the boat involved with the accident called me to fill me in- He was not on the boat involved, but traveling with them and very close at the time of the incident. The guy who jumped had serious injuries involving compound fractures in both legs, and no sensation below his chest. He was airlifted out. The girl in the front of the boat suffered 2 broken knees and 2 broken ankles. The boat was damaged in the bow area enough to start taking on a small amount of water. Friend who called is a R.N, and helped with the girl on the boat. This is accurate as far as I was told by someone on scene-so second hand, I apologize in advance if there are any inaccuracies. My best wishes for all involved...

Thanks for passing along the information, sorry to hear about the girl and her injuries hope she has a successful and speedy recovery, and the jumper as well.

There will definitely be an injury/ liability lawsuit filed by the family of the girl that suffered broken knees and ankles to both of her legs. I can't even imagine the shock and horrific sight of this incident both the persons aboard the boat as well as the jumper have to process and deal with. The boat can be repaired. The memories of those involved and of witnesses, will remember this traumatic and shocking incident forever.

All I could think as I watched that, was more fuel for their fire. Evidence of more danger with that section of river open. Sucks that that's the first thing I think about there.

This is a super tragedy all around, but all I could think about was some of the stupid stuff I/we did as kids and walked away..... We skateboarded down the one of the steepest streets in Ventura that dead ends on Main Street. We had to cross 3 streets to make it to the bottom. My buddy biffed it onto Main and a car slammed on its brakes coming to a stop with the bumper resting over his head (he didnt have much brains to begin with) but, what a close call!!! Hope everyone is ok and they live to tell the story, and not from a wheel chair.

If I remember correctly a few decades ago a lady jumped off idiot rock and hit and killed a swimmer.
The jumper was held liable and the incident bounced around the courts for years and years.
Negligent manslaughter kinda deal if I recall.

I may be reaching back into the '70's.

That sucks for the girl in that boat. Thats probably why I saw the police boat going up river Saturday. How deep is the water under that bridge? I jumped in just south of I40 Saturday and was standing in the sand.

I was in the water Saturday on the north side of the bridge and it was only 5ft at most...

And people gripe at the laws that make that illegal.

Those laws are there for a reason. And this is exactly the reason why.

The ticket is the least of their worries right now. I would think common sense would be more of a deterrent than a law, in this case anyway.
